Can someone tell me why Finder is not showing the album art for these two particular songs? The album art appears in Quick Look, and is present in apps like Music and such. It’s as if Finder isn’t refreshing the previews properly. Is there a fix for this?

It’s been difficult to get my charger to work recently, as I’d have to slightly bend the end of the cord a certain for it to work temporarily. I’ve had it for ~5 years, is it still fixable or beyond repair?

External hard drive data recovery suggestions/help

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 07:37 PM PDT

I have an external hard drive with lots of documents and photos that I can't seem to access. I think it won't mount (whatever that means). I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and successfully resolved it. Does anyone have a data recovery software that they recommend?

Very low resolution text on safari

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 06:49 PM PDT

Whenever I am on safari, all of the text is very low resolution and blurry until I zoom in. After I zoom in and out, it goes back to being blurry and it is very annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ethernet problems on new 16" MBP

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 06:36 PM PDT

So I Upgraded to a new 16" MPB from a 2017 MPB. I use a Satechi multipart adapter to use ethernet when I VPN into work. Here's the weird thing. I consistently get 89-100 Mbps when I use my 2017, but on my new 16" I can't get past 20 Mbps. I've tried a full reset. I have no idea what's going on. I've tried switching out the ethernet cords, doing speed tests on other hardwired devices. All is well.

Random GPU Panics that lead to black Screen

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 10:15 PM PDT

Hey so for a while now my MacBook Pro Retina 15" early 2013 randomly shuts down after a while and won't turn back on unless I let it sit for a while.

The screen goes black while the keyboard backlight and the sound seem To work since if i press any button I get the error sound.

I've read that this may happen because of a faulty GPU or because of the battery (Says Replace soon) but i don't really know.

And before I buy a new one i thought i try one last time.

Mac mini seems to have a virus

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:54 PM PDT

My Mac mini which is probably at least four years old seems to be getting slower and slower and working more and more poorly, I suspected I downloaded something a while ago and tried to delete everything that I downloaded but for some reason it's never been right since. I back up all photos and just about everything I can to clear space on the hard drive, but it just doesn't help. I've never really tried an antivirus software, and I don't even know where to start with that. If I bought a new MacBook Pro, which I have been wanting to do anyways to get away from my desktop and to free more space in my apartment, how do I know I don't transfer that virus over onto my new computer?

S.M.A.R.T errors after factory reset. What Should I Do???

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:21 PM PDT

I recently factory reset my MacBook Pro retina 15" mid 2012 by erasing Macintosh. I plugged a usb bootable Catalina installer but when I tried to instal Mac OS, my computer blocked the disk with a S.M.A.R.T errors alert. I'm stock in the reset screen and I can't access to anything except the disk utility and the installation Catalina screen. What should I do????

Start up hang on grey screen, can log in as guest and Macintosh HD is continuously unmounted.

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 09:06 PM PDT

    Hey there,

I've got a 2011 MacBook Pro, she works alright and I know it's time for a new rig but I was hoping to ride this one until September. Just today I was just doing internet stuff and realized I hadn't restarted in about a week so I closed everything down and restarted.

Clicked my username, did my PW and the loading bar happened. And I waited. And waited. And left the house and came back after 2 hours and it was still showing a "full" loading bar but no movement. Now I know something is really fucked up.

So I have tried: resetting PRAM, resetting NVRAM, starting in safe mode DID NOT WORK. Started in command + R (recovery?) and my Macintosh HD CoreStorage Logical Volume is showing as unmounted. I can mount it, I ran first aid and it came back OK, but when I restart after re-mounting it the same shit happens. Then I can hard-press quit again, I can get back to disk utility, it says unmounted, then I have to remount...you get the picture. The other thing is that when it's mounted I can see the GB used, info says it's writable etc. So it is being detected by the system.

What am I missing here? Please help if you can. I really do not want to have to buy a new computer rn. Oh and I do have a backup so we good there ;)

Thanks a lot and please ask if you want more info!!!

Ps I don't know which OS I have......durrrrrr i know bad computer owner. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I think it's Yosemite but I'm not 100% on that. (Edit: it's not Yosemite it's High Sierra whoops 😬)

If I buy the new SE in a one time payment, will I be able to switch carriers multiple times?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 11:56 AM PDT

I am new to smart phones.

I am currently on Sprint but am going to switch to Verizon down the line.

If I buy the no-SIM version, can I attach it to Sprint and then eventually attach it to Verizon?

Can I do this if I just one time payment with Sprint on the buy page from the get-go as well instead of going no-SIM?

Unable to Update to macOS 15.4 - where to see reason why

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 08:14 PM PDT

I have been trying to update my system to 15.4 from 15.3, but every time I try, the install fails and a notification appears upon logging in which simply says "An update could not be installed".

I don't think the issue is that I have too little space - I have a 512 GB model and there is 160 GB free. I've also deleted the Time Machine files and tried installing again which can sometimes cause a space issue.

I used to develop for iOS and used to have a beta version of Xcode, which caused similar issues in the past. I have, however, installed the proper release.

Does anyone know where I can find a log file which might illuminate the reason why the update can't be installed?

Can IT Managed Macs Have Their Webcams Activated Remotely?

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 12:31 PM PDT

Sorry if this is easily answered, but I haven't been able to google any answer.

I have a work-owned MacBook Pro, and now that I'm working from home all the time, I'm wondering if IT has the ability to activate the built in webcam. If they do, will it always turn on the little green light by the webcam?

Can't Transfer Files from External Hard Drive to 2020 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 23 Apr 2020 07:40 PM PDT

Question from a computer novice. I have a Seaport external hard drive that I bought ages ago, probably around 2011. I've only used it a handful of times since I bought it, backing up my 2012 MacBook Pro no more than 2-3 times between when I bought it and November 2019. In November 2019, with a dead battery and a damaged charging port signaling the computer's demise, I tried backing it up one last time.

The memory on the external hard drive was too small to do a full Time Machine backup, so I simply moved all the files I'd need to keep onto the external hard drive. I figured an external hard drive is kinda like a big flash drive, so it wouldn't be a big deal. A few weeks ago I purchased a new MacBook Pro, and today when I went to transfer the files onto my desktop I got a notification that said "The volume is the wrong format for a backup".

What does this mean? How do I fix it? I googled the "wrong format" language and the instructions were all beyond the scope of my understanding of computers so... the more ELI5 your answer, the better. Thanks in advance!
