How do the AirPod Pros fit in your ear? Because mine just fell out in the worst place... Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:54 AM PDT I was listening to atp on the throne, I lean over to flush after finishing my business and I feel my left AirPod pro wiggle out of my ear. I see it tumble end over end bounce off one side of the rim then the other and see it fall into the toilet as the flush reaches it crescendo... and it's gone. I just flushed my AirPod pro down the toilet. Fuck me. God speed little AirPod. To the shit caverns you go. [link] [comments]

Dirty mic and the noise: the update probably didn’t ruin your AirPods Pro Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:33 AM PDT TLDR: I cleaned the microphone grilles of two pairs of APPs with sticky tape. I tested it for both the old (2B588) and new (2C54) firmware and it fixed all problems I experienced and completely restored ANC for both versions. I have been closely following the issue of reduced ANC after the (now pulled) 2C54 update. I was sure my APPs were suffering from reduced ANC and other issues, especially for bass frequencies, due to the update. As many others, I was waiting for an update, believing that 2C54 ruined my pods. At the same time, I also read (mostly at macrumors*) posts by a few very vocal users who swore that cleaning the mic vents with sticky tape or bluetack would help. Even though it got some attention, I never took it too seriously because the effects of the update were so obvious to me. Because my SO also has a pair of APP and hers were never updated, I decided to do a test. I'll give you a quick comparison between software version 2B588 and 2C54, both in cleaned and uncleaned states. These results are not measured and purely subjective, but to my ears very noticeable. 2C54: When I got them new in November, the APPs were amazing. Then, after Christmas and quite suddenly, ANC was reduced, especially in low frequencies, and my heartbeat and foot steps were amplified. I didn't like them much anymore. Also, fit test would fail often, and they sounded quite flat and lacked bass. I attributed the change to the update. I saw many other posts describing similar issues, and a lot of complaints about the update. 2B588: My SO never used hers much so they never updated and are still on that software. I started borrowing hers in March and compared them to mine. Hers felt and sounded just like mine did before the update. Good ANC in the bass region, almost inaudible heartbeat and quiet foot steps. Only now, after my using them for a month, they very suddenly (matter of days) showed the exact same symptoms as mine. I checked and indeed, I could not tell a difference between mine and hers anymore. I decided it was time to finally try and clean them. Dirt: Interestingly, the 2C54s' microphone vents (the black ones that touch your ear) looked much cleaner than those of the 2B588s. I suspect that my habit of wiping the pods after using them might have pushed dirt deeper inside but made them look clean on the outside. It was clearly visible on both versions that the vents were clogged with dirt, though. Cleaning: I used a tesa branded double sided sticky tape that is quite thick and squishy and did the job well. Before I really pressed it on, I made sure that it won't leave any residue on the grilles. Use caution and don't clog your APPs up even more with glue. Comparison after cleaning: Both sound virtually identical to my ears. They perform very similarly filtering traffic noise (both lower and higher frequencies), which is what I used for testing. Regarding sound, I don't hear much difference either. In any case, the difference is nothing compared to the quite noticeable difference that cleaning them made. What's probably going on: The microphones that touch your ears detect sound that is picked up or produced by your body (think heartbeat, foot steps, low frequencies produced by a truck passing by, etc.), and are also used to tune the frequency response and to perform the fit test. If they clog up, it will affect all of these features. The grilles seem to clog up over time, but the effect did become noticeable to me quite suddenly (probably once the were really „sealed" by dirt). It is of course possible that clogged mics interact differently with the two software version. As to why Apple pulled the update: I have no clue. It might have something to do with the clogging issue, or with something completely different. *The only source I should probably mention is the thread over at macrumors where most of what's discussed here was probably mentioned already (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/airpod-pro-ear-tip-fit-test-not-working-not-the-only-one.2208392/). edited slightly for clarity and typos [link] [comments]
