How to get out of this white screen Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:22 PM PST |
I have two identical monitors, but one of them acts up every time I plug them in. Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:33 AM PST I'm using a Macbook Pro laptop at work. I am also using two of these monitors: https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/model/UM.CE7AA.001 I am plugging them into my laptop using 2 DisplayPort -> USB-C cables. For whatever reason, every single morning when I come into the office and plug in my monitors, one of them defaults to the correct resolution (3440x1440) @ 100Hz, and the other goes to 1080p @ 60Hz. Here's where the annoyance is: the monitor that defaults to a lower resolution physically is not being allowed to change to the proper resolution. The correct resolutions aren't even appearing in the displays settings. Here's what the properly working monitor's available resolutions are: And HERE is what the bad monitor's available resolutions are: I am also aware of the "trick" where you hold the option key while clicking the scaled resolutions to view "all available resolutions for the monitor", but it's still capped at 1080p when I do that. So far, the only solution I have is to sit here for 30 minutes unplugging, replugging, switching ports, opening and closing my laptop lid, sleeping and waking my Mac, restarting it, until FINALLY and quite randomly, the monitor just magically shows the correct resolution and I can start working. There has got to be a solution to this issue. As I just mentioned, eventually I do get the bad monitor working, but it's so random and time consuming to get it working that it's really starting to eat into a good amount of my time each week. Is this a known issue? How can I resolve this? I really need to get this fixed, I cannot afford to lose 20-45 minutes every morning. [link] [comments] |
iMessage not updating after month of inactivity? Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:51 PM PST Hi everyone, apologies in advance if I've formatted this post wrong. I turned my phone off on January 4th when I showed up to basic training again. I just graduated and got my phone back but for some reason my iMessage isn't updating the old texts. I can send and receive texts but my texts just won't update. My friends have said they were talking in group chats up to yesterday but my iMessage has only updated up through some of January (the latest it updated was Jan. 28). Is there any way to resolve this? I've tried turning my iMessage on and off but it doesn't seem to do much. Thank you all very much for any help. [link] [comments] |
Cannot switch from original Apple ID to a new one Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:19 PM PST Whenever I try to log into an Apple ID different from the one I created when I first got my iPhone, it gives me the following sequence of errors: https://imgur.com/gallery/y1s9DUp This happens after I've inputted the correct password (incorrect passwords results in the GUI box shaking and rejecting then, instead). I can't even log out and then log back into my original Apple ID normally; it will give me the same error. I have to try and download an app while logged out, and then it will prompt me properly. So far I have tried: Disabling VPN Going on LTE instead of WiFi Logging out of Apple ID on Gamecenter, etc Resetting network settings And unfortunately none of these work. Logging in to my Apple IDs is working properly on a friend's phone, also. [link] [comments] |

Touch becomes unresponsive at times with different screen protectors Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:34 PM PST I have an iPhone X and without a screen protector the touch works fine, but with a screen protector that changes and sometimes its unresponsive or requires me to press extremely hard on the screen, I've tried different brands of screen protector but it coexist on all. Is there a way to increase sensitivity or some way to fix this? [link] [comments] |

Using a Radio station as an alarm Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:31 PM PST Hi There. Is there any way I can make my IPhone 8 (latest iOS) play a certain radio station when my alarm goes off? I tried figuring this out on the automation app, but it doesn't show any of my radio apps on the list. thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
iPhone 7 (iOS 12) Disabled After Turning Phone Off And Back On Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:44 PM PST Restarted my I iPhone 7 after having some minor issues (i do it all the time usually isnt an issue) upon turning the device back on im greeted with the screen below. I got this phone brand new as a plan with the service provider so im the only one who has ever owned it and yet it seems like this is the kind of thing that happens to stolen phones. If anyone has a solution that doesnt involve completely factory resetting the device it would be very helpful as most solutions online have all been a factory reset. Ive also not forgotten any passcodes or apple ID passwords so it really seems there is no reason for the phone to do this. [link] [comments] |

Apple Watch - Noise App - "Locks" after dictation is used. Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:23 PM PST I have noticed when I use dictation to reply to a telegram message, the noise complication on my watch stops responding to the surrounding noise until I "unlock" it again with the water lock. I haven't noticed it with any other apps as I don't use iMessage very often and outlook doesn't have dictation on my watch; however, I am wondering if anyone else is seeing anything similar? S4 running latest os on all devices. [link] [comments] |
My 2017 Macbook can't connect to wifi after coming out of sleep. Restart works Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:47 PM PST Backstory: This problem oddly coincided the second a technician left my home to fix an ongoing connectivity issue I had that affected my macbook, phones, and other devices. The other devices are now fine. I have a 2017 mac that has been my daily driver since I bought it. Pretty heavy use, but nothing crazy I dont think. No games or anything too intensive. My wifi now fails to connect often when I take it out of sleep mode. This happens now to both known networks and when I try to join new networks. I have found restarting my computer fully and trying again works. As mentioned it coincides with the literal second a technician left, which seems like it may mean something, but could be a coincidence. I at first thought it was a problem just at home, but I found it also arises in coffee shops and other places. Could it be a setting I accidentally hit and didn't know I did? Could it be my wifi failing--but working perfect after a restart? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Feb 2020 08:41 PM PST Image for context: https://photos.app.goo.gl/oNhWDkkJxMk5vX5H8 I'm totally stumped here - I re-setup my Mac (Mojave, 10.14.6) a few days ago, and haven't installed anything besides some basic apps like Microsoft Office, Bear, and FireFox. The only clue I have to this is it could be something related to Bear (Google Translate says this is "Bear Palm", but I wouldn't imagine that Bear would install something under a Chinese language. Tried searching my disk for anything like this to no avail. Any ideas what this could be? [link] [comments] |

iPad Mini 1st gen won't restore (even through DFU!) Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:29 PM PST Hi everyone, My dad has an old iPad mini that was jailbroken a long time ago. He wants to sell it so I tried resetting through settings first, but then after that it was just stuck in the apple logo for a long time. I tried restoring it by connecting it to my MacBook & putting it in DFU mode - it ends up the same way. There's a beep sound every few seconds (charging beep) when plugged in. I don't need to save any files - just a full reset. Edit: Some additional details, when restarting the iPad it shows the apple logo WITH the loading bar underneath. Then, the loading bar disappears and stays that way. I am not sure if the iPad is just slow or if it's actually broken. [link] [comments] |

Just restored my iPhone through my iCloud Backup... Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:18 AM PST I was just wondering, because I should have like 19 GB worth of photos and 15 GB worth of voice memos inside of the iCloud Backup (I had the buttons on), if they download into the phone automatically because I don't have them yet. Should I be concerned if I don't see them right away or should I wait for a few more hours before I start freaking out? Edit: Just had to wait a little bit, it's all here! Thanks for the help! Mid2012 MacBook Pro freezing issues Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:08 PM PST Hi guys, I currently use my 13 inch, Mid 2012 Macbook Pro for University work, art, and music. The system: MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) I'm running macOS High Sierra, version 10.13.6. I almost solely use it for Chrome (reddit, google suite, youtube, streaming services, general browsing), Ableton Live, and Photoshop. Over the last 4 months or so, I have noticed a general slowdown and freezing in everyday tasks like copy and pasting, opening new apps, changing windows, opening browsers - none of these issues have happened in the past. In the storage tab "About this Mac," I currently have 417 GB available of 998.98 GB in the 1 TB SATA Disk, 334 GB belong to the "System" tab, and about 130 GB belong to my "Documents". I am not incredibly computer savvy and would appreciate any insight into not only what the issues may be but to learn why these exist. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Forgot Apple ID password, can’t get it reset. Need help. Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:58 PM PST So I'm trying to help my brother get his phone to stop requesting the Apple ID password. He doesn't know the password anymore and any of the passwords he's tried don't work. We've also tried going through the recovery process and apparently his security question answers are wrong so there's no help there. And he doesn't have access to the email that was used for his account either and we can't get into it. I was hoping I could help him log out of his phone and just use an email that he does know but it won't let him do that either. Is there any way we can change his Apple ID and let him use the phone without the annoying popup or is there a way to turn the pop up off at all? I tried texting support for him and they were no help either so I'm at a loss of what to do. [link] [comments] |
Having trouble triggering public college’s Wi-Fi login screen Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:49 PM PST Whenever I try to connect to my college's public Wi-Fi, the login screen never pops up so the Wi-Fi never actually connects. I go to a community college and I go to 2 different campuses throughout the week. My Wi-Fi works fine at campus 1, but the login screen never triggers when I go to campus 2. The WiFi network at both campuses are the same in terms of name and login page. The last time I had this issue at campus 2, I copy and pasted the IP address into chrome, and that triggered the login page. This doesn't work for me anymore. I've tried so many different things to try to get the login page to open (forgotten network, cleared DNS, used example.com, booted Mac into safe mode, used incognito) and nothing has worked. Now I've been stuck with using my phone as a hot spot, which isn't ideal since I only have a certain amount of data each month. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My MacBook Pro is running High Sierra. [link] [comments] |
