iPhone photos take forever to “process” after taking them. Videos “load” but never play Posted: 29 Feb 2020 10:02 PM PST iPhone photos not processing Bought a new XR in November. Updated to iOS 13. I've repeatedly had this problem where when I take a photo or video, it goes into the camera roll but I can't play it, the lower buttons are all greyed out, and the photo/video has a loading indicator on it. The photos don't even show up in the photos app until after an hour or so. Also, sharing photos or videos takes about 5 - 15 minutes just saying "preparing" even if it's just 1 - 2 regular photos. iCloud photos is off. Photo stream is on, cellular data for photos is on. I've tried a factory reset and restoring a stock firmware. Didn't help. Is this a hardware issue? [link] [comments] |
Blank screen on external monitor connected to Macbook Pro (2018) Posted: 29 Feb 2020 10:17 PM PST I am trying to connect a Dell Ultrasharp monitor to a 2018 MacBook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 using DVI/HDMI but the monitor constantly shows a blank screen. Does anyone have any suggestions on how this could be fixed? It's getting extremely frustrating. My setup: I have a MacBook Pro (2018) running Mojave 10.14.6. This is connected to a Dell WD15 dock, which has a USB-C connection that provides VGA, Mini Display Port, and HDMI connections on the dock.
However, when the dock is connected to the Mac and the monitor is connected through Mini Display Port or HDMI, the screen stays blank. If I attempt to switch the mirroring mode to "mirror" the display will actually show content for a second before it reverts back to black. Things I've tried: DisplayLink 4.3 driver DisplayLink 5.2 driver Reset NVRAM Reset SMC Script to force RGB mode [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro doesn't connect to working home wifi, connects to other networks Posted: 29 Feb 2020 10:15 PM PST My mac (2015 MacBook Pro, Catalina 10.15.3) can connect to other WiFi networks, but although it is connected and receiving and IP address from my home webpages, it won't connect to my home WiFi. Other devices connect to the WiFi without problems. The problem persists over two different browsers (Safari and Opera). I can connect to the home internet through an ethernet cable, but not wirelessly. I have no proxy or VPN connections. I have tried the following: I have tried:
Next step would be to try a factory reset, but I'd really rather not if I can help it. Would appreciate any other suggestions! Perhaps relevant: comparing to a roommate's mac (which connects successfully), Option-wifi click shows the wifi as Channel 11 (2.4 GHz, 20 MHz); my network shows Channel 157 (5 GHz, 80 MHz) when connected to the same home network. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Bringing new life to a 2007 MacBook Pro Posted: 29 Feb 2020 08:22 PM PST Hi! I have a old MacBook Pro from around 2007, the A1211 model. It still runs like a champ. It's at it's latest version of macOS however I was wondering if there was anyway I can make it usable today? I'm not looking for specifics but maybe a pointer in the right direction? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Feb 2020 08:08 PM PST So I just bought a macbook pro today (newer version with touchbar). I set it up, fucked up some settings cause I was confused and tried factory resetting it by erasing the hard drive. Set it up again, fucked up some more settings and erased the hard drive again, but in disk utility it still shows Macintosh HD Macintosh HD Data Macintosh HD Data macOS Base System Why are there 2 "Macintosh HD Data"s. Should I "unmount" them to make them disappear? I also don't remember the macOS Base System originally being there when I erased the first hard drive and reset it up. [link] [comments] |
Will returning my MacBook air to factory settings finally get my hard drive space back? Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:52 PM PST The MacBook is only a little 125GB guy but I'm only using a very small amount of this and I seemingly have no storage space. Have tried deleting cache's, erasing time machine backups (which did nothing as they're only saved on an external hard drive), downloading disk scaners; Basically I just cannot find where this extra disk usage is coming from. I am considering just saving important files to a USB and returning it to factory settings, will this erase the disk fully? [link] [comments] |
[Macbook Pro] can't download the additional components - trying to re install lion Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:37 PM PST Hi, I am currently in the process of trying to get the MacBook Pro working. The initial problem is that when booting up, it would flash with a black square with white text and then quickly go to the grey screen with the no entry logo. I have no access to actually getting past the loading screen. I then did the restart and held down the command + R process. Internet recovery started. I connect to my network WIRELESSLY. It takes approx 4 min and I successfully get to the screen where I can Restore from time machine, reinstall Mac OS X, get help online and check the disk utility. On disk utility I select the Hard drive (?) and click "verify" all is good. I then click " Repair disk " and get one error " Invalid disk label cksum mismatch" but everything else appears to be okay it says. It is worth noting that I tried to restore lion previously this way and it came up with the components error, so I erased the HD. I can't remember if it came up with the cksum error before I erased the HD. I then proceed to install Mac OS X Lion 10.7. It is verified successfully. I agree and select the now erased clean HD that had 498GB free. I click install and the bar almost immediately goes full and says I have a huge amount of time left like 2 million hours etc and then sometimes flashes to 0 sec. it then follows up with a " Cant download the additional components needed to install Mac OS X." It is worth noting that I am connected wirelessly and not via Ethernet. Would that make a difference? The second part that is with mentioning is I have a spare HD from my old MacBook Pro ( maybe 1 or 2 years older from this Mac book pro. Would putting that in and taking the current HD out make a difference? Please help! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Feb 2020 03:50 AM PST Hi guys, I just dug up a 2013 MacBook Pro, I have plugged it in, when I first plugged it in an hour ago the MagSafe went green for a couple of seconds and then changed to orange and stayed that way. When I initially plugged it in it showed me a red empty battery for about a second and then turned back off. It's now stuck on amber and every time I try to turn it on it does nothing, I tried resetting the SMC etc but I can hear a very slight fan moving inside the laptop if I put my ear up to it so it is alive somehow. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. I will give Reddit gold to anyone who gives me a solution that works :) Thanks, Nic [link] [comments] |
Dropped Macbook Pro/Think heatsink may be broke... Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:17 PM PST Hello everyone, I was putting my Macbook in the backseat floorboard from my passenger side when I dropped it behind the console in between floorboards. There was no apparently damage to the case, but when I picked it up I noticed a sound like tape was loose inside. It's kind of hard to replicate, so I don't know if I'm imagining it or not. Anyway, lately I have been noticing that the area where I place my palms is starting to get pretty uncomfortably warm. I am running a lot of stuff, including Youtube and some scrolling text based games and sometimes an IDE, but this is a Macbook pro with an I7 CPU, and I just don't seem to remember it getting this warm. I am running Macs Fan Control now to keep it from getting warm. Is there anything the Genius bar can do for me without costing an arm and a leg? Did I mess up my heat sink or do you think anything is even messed up? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to buy Pro Apps Bundle with iTunes gift cards. Posted: 29 Feb 2020 07:09 PM PST I spent 400$ CAD in iTunes gift cards thinking that it would be possible to purchase the Pro Apps bundle. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to use it. Airpods location sound not working Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:59 PM PST So I've had the gen 2 AirPods since January and one thing I've noticed while using them is the location sound in the "Find My" app. I tried disconnecting them and reconnecting them but that didn't work. Is there any way I can fix this in case I lose them? [link] [comments] |
Best browser/music streaming solution for iOS 4.1.2? Posted: 29 Feb 2020 06:29 PM PST Just found my old iPod touch 2G and my speaker system, and would like to turn it into a retro music streaming system. However, as to be expected, YouTube, YouTube Music, Chrome, Firefox, and YouTube Web on Old Safari all don't work/not compatible. Does anyone have a better alternative? I would hate to manually download each song from YouTube and transfer onto the iPod like 10 years ago. I'm open to jailbreaking if that's the only solution. [link] [comments] |
iPhone in worse condition after screen replacement in Apple Store - what can be done about it? Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:06 PM PST I have an iPhone X which had a screen replacement done in the past in an unauthorized store. Because of that it lost it's FaceID functionality. Few weeks ago I dropped my phone and cracked the screen. A week ago the screen went completely dark so I decided to use that as an opportunity and fix it in Apple Store in Berlin where I was spending my short holiday. I heard that the only way to keep the FaceID after the screen replacement was to use the original Apple support, so I was curious if despite the screen replacement done in the past this would bring back the FaceID support. I explained my case to the people at the store the way I did in this post - I mentioned the previous replacement etc. Both employees assured me that it was not a problem and that the FaceID would be back. To be honest this was main reason why I decided to fix the device there. When I picked up the device an hour later the screen was brand new, but I immediately noticed that the FaceID wasn't working (you get a notification stating 'FaceID can't be activated at this device'). I mentioned this to the employee waiting for me to pay for the service, but he assured me that it will be working and I just need to set it up. I believed his words, signed some papers and paid for the service. When I left the store I tried to set it up but the issue was still there. Iphone was acting the same way as it was before the repair. I came back to the store to resolve this issue but after few standard tips such as 'did you try to reset your device?' etc. I got to meet the manager who after inspecting some stuff on his iPad told me that there was some issue with my phone and that the only way to fix the FaceID would be to replace the whole device. I wasn't interested in that since it would be cheaper to buy a new iPhone. The problem is that the next day I noticed that the Apple Pay wasn't working as well, even though I am 100% sure it was working before I left it in the Apple Store for the repair. I already tried to relink the card to my wallet, reset the phone etc. It seems that the problem is not the software but the hardware. Is there something that can be done about it? Main issue is that I am not from Berlin so I can't approach them again with this issue. [link] [comments] |
How can I QuickLook MXF Files in Finder? Posted: 29 Feb 2020 05:18 PM PST I am trying to quicklook MXF files in Finder without having to import them onto Premiere Pro to be able to see them. The logic board on my Macbook Pro died two weeks ago and cannot get a new one.... Posted: 29 Feb 2020 04:29 PM PST I live in Mexico and in January 22nd 2019 I purchased a MacBook Pro i7 for work. I have been pretty happy with the laptop but February 16th it suddenly died.. It wasn't dropped, spilled on etc. just died out of nowhere. I took it to a local authorized repair shop in Playa del Carmen Mexico and the day after they diagnosed that the logic board had died. They said it would take until approximately Feb 21st to get a new board. It was a problem but I kind of accepted my fate and worked on my tablet while waiting for my laptop. Come Feb. 21st and I get a call saying they did not get a logic board and had no idea when it would arrive. I freaked out since its for work and it would really start to cost me a lot of money being without a laptop for that long, so I call Apple USA. they said they could not help and I could only purchase the logic through a authorized dealer since the new MacBook Pros are locked down so I could not just get a logic board with Fedex from the US... I have been keeping in touch with the shop and get an automated answer saying the y have no date, no idea and know nothing... I understand it might have to do with the Corona virus but if Apple decides to lock down their products like this they really need to have their supply line in order... So, anybody has any ideas to resolve this or is my only option to sit and wait until one day I get my logic board? [link] [comments] |

Macbook Pro Connected to WiFi But Internet Not Working Posted: 29 Feb 2020 11:08 AM PST I all, I had this issue and thought I'd post a solution to a problem I've had for a couple of days. For some reason, (maybe my VPN caused it), but I wasn't able to visit any websites on any of my web browsers. I checked and found that I was still connected to the router and my other devices were operating fine on the same router, I then used a different WiFi with the Macbook Pro and was able to repeat the issue. I did several recommendations such as renewing my DHCP lease, restarting, made sure my time and date was correct, forget my WiFi and reconnect, stopped mDNSResponder, none of it worked. I did find the problem and solution, for some reason, my DNS was set to 10.10.10.10. I read on some places that having the incorrect DNS causes internet loss. I changed it to Google's DNS which are: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Once I did that, I renewed my DHCP lease again and now I'm connected to the internet again. OpenDNS is another server that could be used which are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 but the Google DNS servers are working fine for me. This post is here just in case someone else tries the simple solutions first and haven't checked their DNS yet. [link] [comments] |
My iPhone 5s got wet with ethyl al.cohol, can the battery explode? Posted: 29 Feb 2020 02:21 PM PST Hello, what happens is that yesterday my cell phone was filled with dirt when I fell into a place that was not very clean and, because I wanted to clean it, I decided to use a cotton ball with alcohol. What happens is that it had so much alcohol that it spilled from cotton so when rubbing it on all sides of the cell phone (not just the screen) I fear that something has entered through the charging port, speakers or microphones. And my question far from whether there would be a malfunction in operation (since it works the same as always) is if there is any danger that the alcohol that could have been put into the battery generates combustion with the battery or something like that that is dangerous. At the moment I only notice that the cell phone heats up but it can also be because as after the incident I have it without a case, I just noticed it (or it may also be just my paranoia since I think I remember that it also warmed up in summer like now) . Anyway I hope someone can answer my question, it is an iPhone 5S with the factory battery, and 70% ethyl alcohol. PSDT: Also do not get the idea that large amounts entered through the duct, it is only the amount that usually comes out of cotton when you squeeze it, anyway my concern is if there is danger of having caused it to eventually explode like cell phones whose batteries explode. Thank you 8english is a foreing lenguage for me :,) ). PSDT2: I just noticed that it says 70% medicinal alcohol but on the back of the composition it says 96% ethyl alcohol and the rest of the water so I put it just in case. [link] [comments] |

External Custom Keyboard Locks Everything When Plugged In Posted: 29 Feb 2020 01:28 PM PST Hello, I have a MBP Mid-2015 Retina Display running the latest Mac OS Update. I tried plugging in my custom keyboard and using it, but when I do I get a prompt to setup the keyboard. When the external keyboard is plugged in it doesn't work, and my MBP keyboard and mouse stop working. The mouse has the hard feeling as if it's locked. Any suggestions on how to get the external keyboard to work, or make it so my mouse isn't locked so I can hit continue and try setting up the keyboard? [link] [comments] |
