What is the chance that Apple’s new iPad Pro will be more expensive then the 2018 iPad Pro?

Apple needs to support chargeable upgrade: Answer to subscription fatigue.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:12 AM PST

I get it. Developers have families to feed, and mortgages to pay.

Apps as services, subscription-based business model is attractive because it brings in consistent revenues.

But the trend is worrying for many reasons, most obvious ones including subscription fatigue. Then there's also the issue of mismatch of expectation of value proposition (is being able to keep a journal worth $3/month, is being able to use a calendar worth $5/month, is being able to view and edit PDF documents worth $4/month, etc). Not to mention the psychological pressure of recouping value from your investment (e.g., "I'm paying $5.99 to make cool beats, was this month worth it to invest this much money?"). The list goes on.

But then there's the alternative: charging upgrade fees. (Think GoodNotes has done something like this). This is something that should be a very clear alternative, an alternative that can be very customer friendly for many of the apps out there.

If apple implemented a clear workflow for both developers and users to register different versions of the app, and to be able to upgrade the apps, then I feel like the subscription model will just be used on apps that are appropriate for subscriptions (e.g., Netflix), instead of everyone trying to haggle $2~10 dollars every month. Let users have the choice to keep using the software that they rightfully purchased - if they see a good reason to upgrade to the next version, they will happily pay and do so. If they don't upgrade this time around, they will next time provided that the upgrade is significant enough.

If the app doesn't generate enough revenue even after few upgrades over the year due to lack of customers upgrading, well I'm very sorry but you have a product that's already served its purpose and you have to move on; customers are not obligated to be the safety net of poor investment and development.

Below is more of a rant, but...

Imagine if other companies did this. Imagine if Toyota said they were moving onto a subscription model, and your 2020 Toyota will stop working completely by the end of 2020 - because well, factory workers, developers at Toyota all have families to feed and mortgages to pay. What if Toyota argued this new subscription model is really the only ethical way of doing business because if they don't have this subscription model, there's no guarantee customers will buy a new car every year, and hence Toyota will no longer have a steady stream of income, and hence their workers' job security will be low? You don't like this model? LOL ok fine then screw you and stop buying Toyota then; buy another car you greedy, stingy, development-stifling scrooge. If the subscription model was an OPTION and it worked for some people and they like it (well arguably leasing cars are kind of like that arguably) - then great! I'm happy for them. But there should be options. Some people would like to keep their cars for more than a year or two. (I just chose Toyota randomly, no hate against them :D)

tldr; Apple needs to implement chargeable upgrade for apps. Users should be able to keep using older version of the apps if they want to, as they rightfully paid for the app. If the new apps warrant enough merit, users can simply pay the developer more money to upgrade and support the company.

Transfer from Notes to Goodnotes 5?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:21 AM PST

I've been using my new iPad Pro for the last week or so, and I've been taking notes in the stock Notes app, both with text and writing. But now I'm realizing that I want a more features note taking app so I grabbed Goodnotes 5. Is there a simple way to move everything over? I can select all/copy/paste, but it all cuts off after the first page and doesn't transfer my handwritten notes anyways. Is there a solution besides just rewriting everything in the new app?

(Question) Are the notability files saved on my iPad storage or on the cloud?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:50 AM PST

This will be the deciding factor if i should get a larger sized storage.

Also, how much MB can a 5 page file contain?

Looking for those who use an ultrawide with their ipad.

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 09:55 PM PST

I've heard some apps do support the full resolution of an ultrawide. Anyone here know which apps they've used that do? Thinking of getting an Air 3 this weekend, and may get the adapter for it if enough apps support it.

What keyboard is everyone using that uses one?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:49 AM PST

On my first gen pro I had the apple keyboard cover. This time I'm thinking of grabbing the Logitech k480 so I can dock my iPad to a monitor more easily. Want to hear what everyone here uses too.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 05:25 AM PST

My intention is to use the network attached storage for my own personal cloud, I mainly wanna use my iPad to obtain media from what my Mac has collected.

I watched a guy get his network attached storage to work with his router and iPad, but how do you go about this with the AirPort Extreme?

Sell iPad 5th Gen for parts.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 12:39 AM PST

So my iPad 5th gen 32Gb WiFi +cellular got run over and its pretty fucked. Frame is broken, headphone port is broken, the white strip is bent outward and you can see inside the iPad but the iPad still works like normal besides the cracked screen a white spot coming through on the top corner. i was wondering if it would be worth anything for parts hard to find similar listings as my iPad seems like it shouldn't be working but it is.

Here's an imgur link to have a look at what it looks like now.

    OPlayer HD turn off autoplay?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 03:31 PM PST

Is there a way with OPlayer HD to turn off autoplay for vids? If I fall asleep watching it, it will keep playing forever. Ideally, I could set it to play the current video and stop. Is this possible?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have an android phone and an iPad. The iPad continues to show post from yesterday while android shows current . Why does the FB news feed differ between android and iOS? Is it an apple issue or a FB issue.?
