    Budget MacBook

What would be the cheapest usable MacBook. (I don't mind if it's not in production anymore)

Any way to force set display area on screen? I dropped my MacBook Pro 2013 and only a portion of the screen is damaged (glass intact). Flickering fizzy lines obscure the bottom and side of what is on my screen.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:10 PM PST

As the title says. And also I'm a goddamn dumbass for dropping it from my bed.

Only an inch of the screen on the left and bottom are affected and look like a glitch party - gets in the way of usability. Really hoping this is salvageable and I can make some tweaks.

DIY replacing the screen unit will likely cost me $300-450 in parts which I feel would be better saved towards a new laptop (which is way beyond my budget right now).

I have had a look at an app/program called SwitchResX but after reading some posts and looking at the website I still don't understand if it is capable of doing what I want to get working here.

Any ideas!?!? I really like this laptop even though it's old. It works okay and the screen is nice (apart from me having fucked it up).

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:27 PM PST

I found my old 15' MacBook Pro 2010 which i got from my company nearly ten years ago.

Now the question. Better to Upgrade the 4GB RAM and old HDD to 8 GB and SSD

Or Change to newer model (Budget 500 )

I Just need Browser and telegram. Cause i do much profesionell Sports Betting and need Browser Power with many Tabs.

So i'm Not sure what to do.

MacBook Pro (2019) thinks my mouse is a keyboard

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 04:35 PM PST

I got apple's USB -> USB-C adapter and plugged in my USB Logitech mouse to my MacBook, I was greeted with a push button to identify keyboard screen. I was wondering if there was anything I could do about this, the mouse works (sorta) however I was hoping to configure it.

Help my MacBook Air won’t turn on!

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 03:12 PM PST

I left my MacBook opened with indirect light hitting it for about 2 days. I come back to it and then it won't turn on. I've already tried the control+option+shift+power button and the command+option+r+p. I also plugged in the charger and the light turned on in the charger but still nothing for my MacBook.

Possible to remap = sign key?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:53 PM PST

The = sign key on my Macbook Air is broken.

I need to wait for two more weeks before I can bring it to the repair shop.

Is there any way to meanwhile remap the = sign to another key to keep on using the = sign easily?

    Thanks!

Dropped my MacBook Pro this morning and now my monitor looks like this...

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:11 AM PST

So this morning I was getting out of bed - fell asleep watching a movie - and my MacBook fell to the floor. Now my screen looks like this - https://imgur.com/a/rztQIN3.

Anything I can do OTHER than getting a replacement screen? I'm sure that's what I'm going to have to do, but with being low on funds, I'm hoping this won't get worse for the next few weeks until I get the money. I can still do work while it is like this.

    Specs:

    MacBook Pro 13-Inch "Core i5" 2.7 Early 2015 2.7 GHz Core i5 (I5-5257U) Order MF839LL/A* Model A1502 (EMC 2835)

    Mail-in Macbook Repair services

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 06:10 AM PST

My 2011 MBP recently stopped charging, even after replacing the battery, so I'm looking for a technician I can mail it to for repair (in-town stores always gouge like hell for it, they don't care how old the computer is). Can anyone recommend a service online for mailing it in to fix whatever the issue is?

There are a bunch of technicians on eBay charging ballpark $150-200 for generic "logic board repair service." I used one a few years ago but the guy took so long to send it back, like over a month, that I was soured on eBay.

    MacBook 61 or 85 watt?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 06:00 AM PST

Hi I have a MacBook pro. It uses the charger with USB-C connectors. I think it came with a 61 Watt charger. But I lost mine and a friend is willing to give his 85 Watt charger. Is it safe to use this larger charger? ((Also just curious, if I had a laptop that came with the 85 watt charger, could I use the 61 watt charger?))

Realistically how many years will 8gbs of ram be usable in the future for web browsing?

I have a 2019 MacBook Air with 8gbs of ram. how many years could I use this computer for web browsing and stuff like YouTube? I'm trying to decide if I should sell this laptop and go for a higher rammed option MacBook, or keep the one I already have. My goal is to get as many years out of it as possible.

Help with icloud for movies, music etc.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:14 AM PST

So i just switched from google to apple. I used to use google drive to store all my movies, music and photos. Now i'm looking to use an apple service and i'm a little confused how it works.

1.) Does icloud have it's own video and music player ?

2.) Is itunes the same thing as apple music ? if not what is the difference ?

    Thanks.
