IMPORTANT step to check stolen Macbooks Posted: 31 Jan 2020 02:31 PM PST Hello just wanted to add one more important step to check when buying stolen macbooks (in addition to conventional ones like checking icloud account etc.) Please check if it's company owned. They can bypass this by setting up the macbook offline, So DO NOT buy already set-up macbooks. Always reset and check from scratch and go through setup screen, in the setup screen, if it's company owned laptop, there will be window pop up saying company can remotely control the computer. Please do this by connecting the internet, because without internet it can be bypassed. When company owned laptops are sold, company usually releases the laptop, meaning laptop becomes available for resale. Most of the time, if this enrollment is not lifted, macbooks are stolen property. Please google: MDM , DEP , Macbook, device enrollment program etc. Just wanted to inform you guys, Thanks. Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:40 PM PST https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJT660pUOMc&feature=youtu.be I got a lot of pushback in my last thread asking if Apple will fix this issue and felt that I needed to make a video to demonstrate how bad the situation really is. This is not normal, other laptops with equivalent specs don't have this problem, whatever the cause is apple must investigate and fix it. I appreciate this is a 'pro' machine and Apple has been in trouble in the past for screwing up thermals in favour of sound but max RPM on idle is not normal behaviour in a modern laptop. Besides this problem the machine is great and I really wish Apple would fix the problem and other Apple fans don't defend this as if it's normal. [link] [comments]
Posted: 31 Jan 2020 10:58 PM PST Im thinking about buying a macbook and monitor. Lets say i get a monitor with more than 60hz lets say 144hz. Would the macbook support it or will it only go to 60hz? In other words is buying a monitor with more than 60hz pointless for a macbook setup? [link] [comments]

2015 Macbook Pro still good for programming? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:42 PM PST I'm a college student studying computer science and I'm looking to upgrade my computer for that reason. I found a solid deal on a 2015 Macbook Pro with an i5 5287U and a 512GB SSD, and I was wondering if that'd still be a good option, or for $50 more, would the latest model Macbook Air be better? 2011 17" MacBook Pro with replacement OWC SSD - booting up problem Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:48 AM PST Last year I replaced the hard drive in my 2011 17" MacBook Pro with a 2TB SSD from OWC. I also increased memory to 16GB and replaced the battery and this was all great, making the machine run like a new beast. However, booting up has been a constant problem. When I turn on the computer it almost always, without fail, initially goes to the flashing file-folder with ? icon. Eventually, retrying by turning it off and on again (shout out here to "The IT Crowd"), I can always get it to boot up in the end. Reading other posts here I obtained a replacement Hard Drive Cable from iFixit but that seems to have made no difference. It is similar if I have put the machine into sleep mode. After some time of having left the machine in sleep mode and then trying to restart, the screen displays OK with the login screen but the mouse pointer is in a permanent spinning circle mode and so I have to turn it off and on again to reboot from scratch. After some experimentation I have found that if I leave the computer on with the file-folder icon flashing (or mouse pointer spinning) for a period of time (I haven't yet determined the minimum amount necessary - I generally leave it for at least 15 minutes) I can then get it to boot up properly, consistently. It's almost like the SSD needs time to warm up or something. I have tried this with the machine both plugged into power and running on battery and the behaviour is the same either way. Has anyone else experienced this and/or does anyone have any suggestions for resolving this issue? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments]
Will Apple fix the thermal issues with the new MacBook Pro 16"? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:20 AM PST I'm not sure if it's worth holding out on it but many people have huge problems with heat in the new macbooks. If my macbook heats up due to a heavy task the fans will spin up which is fair, ut after that task is done the fans continue to blow at maximu and the temperatures stay incredibly high, even after leaving the macbook alone for a while (nothing in activity monitor indicates heavy cpu usage). This has happened with three different macbooks so far. Will Apple fix this issue or is the 16" MacBook DOA for people who want to do work with intermittently heavy work loads? [link] [comments]
Looking to get a new macbook (Mid 2015 preferred) Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:55 AM PST I'm from the UK and I am looking to buy a new MacBook to replace my mid-2012 Air. I love to go for the 2019 16 inch model but it is very pricey from £2100~. Even the parts are soldered in, so I would need to spend more if I were to go for bigger space. I prefer the 2015 model as it's got the best specs and a scissor keyboard. Although I would either get it from Amazon for £1300 or from Cex online for £850. Any suggestions? And no models with butterfly keyboards in. Thank you [link] [comments]

How likely is a 2020 version of the 13" pro to drop in March? Posted: 31 Jan 2020 04:02 AM PST I'm seeing a lot on this subreddit that rumours indicate that the new 13/14" MacBook Pro could drop as early as March. I'm struggling to find sources for this however, and most of my own research seems to indicate a much later release of around May/June. Does anyone have any sources or information that I'm missing on this? [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro 13“ A1501 suddenly shuts down Posted: 31 Jan 2020 01:03 AM PST I have a MacBook Pro a1501 from mid-2014, which unfortunately has a strange problem: It all works fine for the time being, then at some point it goes out for no apparent reason. When this happens and you try to switch it on again, the typical sound is heard for a short time and then it switches off again. There are then only two possibilities:
If you do the latter, the MacBook will boot, but it will become very sluggish and laggy e.g. when you move the mouse pointer. Only when booting as described in 1, the notebook works normally until the next power off. It doesn't seem to be a heat problem of the CPU, because something like GeekBench CPU goes through. But it always goes off during compute. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? Problems with the graphics chip? [link] [comments] |
