Apple Help GPU issue? MacBook Pro 2016 15"

I just got a good deal on the HP27es monitor and when I connect it, everything on the monitor screen appears bigger. Any tips to troubleshoot would be highly appreciated! :)

Screen recording out of thin air

I was going through my photos on my iPhone 8 Plus just now and noticed a screen recording that I did not take and would've most likely been asleep for when it was taken. Anyone have advise on where it might have come from? It seems innocuous enough but a little weird that it seems to have just showed up. iPhones can't be hacked correct? Could it be an app that I'm using that let someone in?

Is there a way to click and drag in Safari?

I got the new iPad 10.2" as a laptop replacement, but I can't seem to click and drag like a mouse would. I was trying to do my homework, which requires to click, drag, and drop, but found difficulty in doing so. I used my Apple Pencil to try to click and drag, but instead moved the Safari page. Is there any way to do so with the iPad? Does it require a bluetooth mouse?

Safari, YouTube loads except for the video itself, shows up as a black square. I have to refresh to get video to load. Same issue happens when video red line catches up to gray buffer line.

On safari whenever I select a YouTube video the video that is supposed to load does not, it's a black square, everything that fits on screen loads and comments and more videos load as I scroll. I have to refresh every time to get the video to load. Also there is the issue where the video will not buffer enough to where the red line catches up and and the video stops and goes black. This does not happen when I use Firefox.

How can I tel if someone has been on my phone?

Hi guys, first time poster and throwaway as my friend has reddit.

Recently I had a night where me and some friends had a little too much to drink. I woke up the next day and noticed that someone had been on my phone at 5am, when I was asleep. They had messaged someone on Facebook messenger, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't me who did this, though I can't say 100% as I have been known to sleepwalk.

I was staying at a friends house who knows my password so I'm thinking it might be her, but when we have spoken about it she denies it. We both had a look in our settings and in 'battery health' my phone had only been turned on once or twice in the night and hers had been on and off all night.

I have an iPhone XS and she has an 8 so I don't know if that affects it.

Is there any other way that I can tell when my phone was used during the night? I totally forgot to take a screenshot of the battery page and now it's gone as this was more than 24 hours ago.

Whats going on with the notes section of my 2019 macbook? Why are notes being created automatically each day? These notes are based on conversations I have with my S/O too which makes is incredibly unnerving to say the least.

iPad won’t charge while it’s on

I have a 7th gen 9'7" iPad. After about a year after owning it, it stopped charging while it was powered on. I can't put it in dfu mode and connect to my pc because it won't read the connection. I restored and updated it. Still nothing.

Can't activate iCloud email -- Apple Support is near useless

I have had a case open with Apple support for about two months now and can't get anyone to actually spend any time on it. I wanted to migrate my Apple ID from an old @mac.com to a new @icloud.com and to start using iCloud Mail. So I went to my iCloud settings on my phone, flipped the switch for Mail and it said "Create a free @icloud.com email address to turn on iCloud Mail. So I tapped Create and created my @icloud email address.

However, along the way, something must have failed because it created this address and now I can't use it. The Mail toggle in iCloud keeps reverting to turned off and every time I turn it on it asks me to create an @icloud.com email address even though I already have. And now when I tap Create, nothing happens. I can log in to iCloud using my new @icloud.com address, but I can't use it for mail.

This happens on all platforms: Mac, iOS, iPad OS. I even tried signing into iCloud.com and it won't let me access the email.

Any ideas?

Tried to update iphone 8, didn't work, and now it wants me to restore it?!

I was trying to upload my iphone photos to my laptop but it said I had to update my phone first, so I tried to to just that. I plugged my phone into my macbook to update it, it said I needed to restore it if it didn't update, I clicked update, it was almost complete when it stopped and gave me an error. Now it says to restore my iphone which I don't want to do!!! I have so many pictures I will lose. Any idea what to do?? I've already turned it off and on again many times but nothing happened

My Download, Desktop and Document files have became empty

So I attempted to rename one of my admin names and I did restart it til after the fact I tried to log-in to the User controls with it. Now my Download, Desktop, and Document files are empty. Is there a way to get them back?

Why does Apple not have a journal that integrates with the Photo App?

I was checking the list of iPhones can have 13 iOS and iPhone 6s is included in that list. I tried to find update on my phone but it doesn't work. It just simply say 12.4.4 iOS. Help?

Is there anything I should do to secure MBP before giving to Apple to ship out for repair for over a week?

I'm a worrier, so giving my MBP with my entire life on it to someone to have shipped off somewhere else to be repaired has me, well, worried.

I did a TM backup, set a more secure login password and copied some files I use to my iphone to have access while it's being repaired.

It's the screen/clamshell replacement so the guy at the Apple store said there should be no issue, but back it up anyway.

Am I missing anything? Should I sign out of anything or delete anything (nothing illegal on it, just personal data)?

Edit: I should also note that it's currently running 10.14.6 (Mojave) b/c I have several apps I use regularly that'll become incompatible if I upgrade to Catalina and I can't afford/justify spending money to upgrade them when they function perfectly fine. I only mention it because it's always the first thing Apple wants to know.

MacBook Pro 16" USB C / TB3 problem with 1TB external NVMe drive

Hi all,

after spending most of my day today trying to figure out the root cause of the issue and not finding it only a workaround, I thought I share it with you.

Config:

MPB 16" just got it yesterday, fresh MacOS 10.15.2, i9 2.3GHz, 32GB Ram, 1TB

Samsung 970 Black NVMe 1TB + ElecGear USB 3.1 (USB C gen2) external case from Amazon

Issue:

The drive is causing IOService kernel panic or just freezing up the whole system when trying to run a speed test on it with the Blackmagic Disk Speed test or trying to copy data on it.

I just replaced my 2019 MPB 13" with the 16" was using the external drive on a daily basis with it in the last 6-7 months. Had no issues, was bringing me 950/950MB/s speed and had it almost full with my pics and Lightroom catalog. It worked and still works on the MPB 13" without any issue.

Debugging/RCA:

I have two additional external drives that I tested directly on the USB C ports both on the 16" and 13" :

1TB WD My Passport SSD > worked on both 13" and 16" perfectly

Sandisk Extreme 510 480GB > worked on both 13" and 16" perfectly

Tried with different USB c to USB c cables both test drives worked with all cables, the NVMe drive didn't work on the 16" with any of the cables.

EXCEPT: when I tried it with the standard USB C charging cable for the charger. As it is not for data transfer I got only 40/40MB/s but that was 40MB/s more for reading speed than before when it just froze...

So that made me think and I searched for my random amazon purchase USB hub that I got for like 10Euro:

Vanmass USB Hub >> and it worked with reduced speed 450/450MB/s and works, I am running the Blackmagic speed test on it since to see if it fails.

When I tried it without the hub it always gave me 950MB/s to write and then 0 for reading and just froze. When I tried to copy files after 2gigs or so it just froze the same way. And when I was pushing it more in Lightroom earlier it caused a kernel panic and shutdowns with it.

And while this is all happening on the 16" I did a cross-check after every formatting reformatting from APFS to exFAT and it always worked on my 13".

What do you guys think what can cause this? Is it maybe a faulty TB3 bus in the 16" that cannot handle the full speed of the external drive and just crashes?

In a week I can test it with an eGPU and a 16TB raid both on Thunderbolt3 but until then it would be nice to find something solid. Unfortunately, all my Google searches were leading me to: cannot write/read external drive > NTFS > problem solved results.

I also did checks on the drive/drives in the Disk Utility, unfortunately, the NVMe case doesn't support SMART so I could not check on the drive, but it looks like it is fully functioning based on the speed and the load tests. All other drives worked with all the cables I tested with. And everything worked on the 13".

EDIT: also did NVRam and SMC reset and a clean re-install of MacOS after formatting the boot disk.

Macbook Air is dead, can I salvage the SSD?

My 2011 Macbook Air died suddenly during use a few days ago. Everything was fine, then screen went total glitchy, froze. After a hard power off and reset, the computer doesn't power on at all. When the power button is pressed, the computer beeps 3 times every few seconds until another hard power down.

I have read this is a problem with the ram perhaps. Based on the age of the computer, I am not really interested in pursuing a repair. I just want the files on the SSD. Can I just extract the SSD and access the files somehow?
