| Posted: 01 Nov 2019 03:52 PM PDT On my MacBook Pro, I frequently use the three-finger tap on the trackpad to show link previews in Safari, and it bugged me that there was no equivalent way to do that from my Magic Mouse. It turns out the Magic Mouse's hardware does in fact support gestures that use more than two fingers, but Apple chooses not to include any in the system's default set of gestures. But you can therefore use third-party utilities like BetterTouchTool or jitouch to add support for three-finger gestures if you want them. So, using BTT, I can now do the three-finger tap from my mouse and don't have to go back to the trackpad just for that one feature! [link] [comments]  | ||

In the meantime, twitter forced the new design on my account and adblock won't block promoted tweets anymore in Safari. Have not tried adblocking software on other browsers yet, but I have tried adblock, ublock, wipr, and 1blocker on Safari all to no avail. Known ads on other sites are all blocked, but I can't get rid of promoted tweets and its ruining my life. Yes, I know i could run a twitter app, but I don't want to, I like using it in Safari. | Switching between apps not in full screen using three or four finger swipe? Posted: 01 Nov 2019 01:41 PM PDT I can switch between apps only if they are in full screen, but I remember it was possible in a previous version of OS to bring up the same menu as you get when you use command tab, but that does not work anymore. I don't like to use mission control because it shows the apps all over the screen, instead of the command tab switcher is a lot quicker to use. Does anybody know if this is possible? | Posted: 01 Nov 2019 10:50 AM PDT Hi all, I have a macbook air 2012 mid year and have updated it within a week every time a new release comes out. I did the same with Catalina and had to do a complete recovery from timemachine to recover. Catalina 10.15.1 fixed the issue I ran into but now I'm spooked. It sounds like a lot of people had some pretty big issues with 10.15. Is 10.15.1 a lot better? In the past the only impact I had when I upgraded was the time it took to do the upgrade. As long as I was there and waiting to take pictures of my kids, I took pictures of other kids. I'd like to share those but I'm not going to go in and tag other kids. If I can let my Mac do the work, OK. I can send Bobby's parents a link to pictures of Bobby. One concern is that I don't want pictures of other kids confusing Photos. Pictures of my kids are in the main photo library. The other concern is size - I'm paying for online storage and I don't want to have to pay for pictures of the kids of other people. I can find lots of information on switching among libraries, merging libraries, etc. I can't find anything on what the effects of having multiple libraries are. [link] [comments]  | ||

I added ".nosync" to one of the folder with several recorded files. Suddenly most of the files disappeared, and i cannot find them. I also did not have any backup. Posted: 01 Nov 2019 05:59 AM PDT Apparently my Mac just went ahead and downloaded Catalina as an automatic update and was probably about to even install it automatically tonight. Luckily I checked the update section in System Preferences before that nightmare could become reality.
