    Homed process taking up 100% of CPU

    Does anyone know why this might happen? Running Catalina on a new MacBook Pro and have noticed that the process shows up from time to time taking up 100% of the CPU for no reason. I have to force quit the process in order to get it to stop. I know the process is part of homekit but does anyone know why this is happening or has anyone experienced this before as well?

    Clean Install

    I am currently trying to run a clean install of Mac OS Catalina on my wife's 2015 MacBook Pro. I made the mistake of deleting the Macintosh HD - Data and was leftover with the Macintosh HD. I have tried running a clean install on the Macintosh HD disk but that is not allowing me. I'm quite new to this, as you can tell. Any suggestions? Even if I try to boot it up it is stuck in a restart loop.

    Can't download files from iCloud onto Mac.

    I used to be able to download files that were offloaded from my HD to iCloud by either clicking the "cloud with downwar arrow", right clicking and selecting "download now", or just double clicking it and waiting for it to download and automatically open.

    I can't do that anymore. I'm on Catalina. I have a video that was moved to the cloud, but when I right click, the "download now" option is gone, clicking the "cloud with arrow" does nothing, neither does double clicking or right-clicking and hitting open do anything.

    Does anyone know what to try to be able to download icloud files/videos from my iclous back ointo my mac so I can open them?

    Can’t boot from usb to install macos

    Hi, On my brand new MacBook Air 2019 I did delete the hard drive in the recovery menu (cmd+r) and now either usb boot or internet recovery works.

    I boot in to boot menu by holding down option key and then I can see the install Catalina icon but I can't see machintosh hd icon. Anyway I klick in the Catalina icon but then the MacBook Air boots in to internet recovery. Why's that?

    I really hope that I Did not break my new MacBook Air. It did work before I did erase the harddrive.

    Sharing only certain apps between mac logins

    Hi! Just got married and just used our wedding money to buy a brand spanking new iMac. My wife and I are musicians and we're going to download Logic Pro. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the following is possible:

    1. Purchase Logic on one login, from one Apple ID account but be able to use it on our own mac logins (without having to purchase multiple copies)
    2. Retain our own Apple ID accounts on our own Mac logins so that we can use our own iMessage etc

    Should we make a new Apple ID account and a new shared "Family" login and buy Logic there? iCloud is really confusing.

    How do you go fullscreen with the menu bar visible?

    When I go fullscreen everything goes away including the menu bar and dock but I see people in fullscreen but the menu bar is still there. How do you do this? I tried option + clicking on the green button and shift + option and clicking on the green button but it doesn't work.

    Do I need to upgrade to Catalina to sync iOS 13?

    I upgraded to Catalina once already, and experienced some battery drain, so I restored back to Mojave. However, I will be getting an iPhone 11 Pro soon, and I was thinking that iTunes may not recognize the device/ios13. Can anyone confirm/deny?

    How to create a custom screensaver in 2019?

    Hey, I have been searching for a little bit now, but I can't find anything about creating a custom screensaver for MacOS (I currently have Catalina 10.15.1). In an ideal world there would be some program or process where I can convert a .mp4 or .mov file of a custom animation loop I have created that would convert it to the right file type (which I don't know, .saver from what I've seen?).

    Anyway, right now I have the Save Hollywood thing installed, but it is not that great and I'd really love to share my custom screensaver with my friends, and It would be nice if I could just send them a single file they could drag and drop.

    Any ideas/solutions? Thanks

    Issues With macOS Catalina Patcher on MacBook6,1

    I was wondering if anyone on here knew how to troubleshoot dasdude1's Catalina Patcher. I have a MacBook6,1 and I keep getting this error each time I try and install Catalina. I have the patcher flashed to a 16GB flash drive, and every time I try and hit the "re-install macOS" button, it pops up with the installer app, it quickly comes up with an error that says "A problem occurred preparing installation. Try running this application again."

    Here's what I've tried:

    1. Checking the date/time - The time is pretty much on the minute.
    2. Resetting SMC - Someone over on Apple Developer said it worked for them. No change
    3. Resetting PRAM - All it did was make my display really bright.
    4. Re-formating the install disk - No change.
    5. Trying a different hard disk - Someone said that they had trouble with OWC SSDs and Catalina. Mine's a Kingston but I tried booting with the original hard disk in.
    6. Trying another computer - I tried it on my 20" iMac and it gave the same message.
    7. Installing from Mac OS X - The patcher greyed-out the option to "install on this machine," and when I open the Install macOS.app from the USB, it crashes.

    If anyone's had a similar issue, please let me know what you did to fix it. Thanks for your help!

    I added windows with bootcamp, then removed it. Now I see two HDs in disk utility. Same name but one has "data" after the name, as you can see (bottom image). What is this? Is it normal? Also, top right it says "shared by 5 volumes". Did I mess something up? Thank you

    How can I set my work network drives I use to automatically connect when I connect to the work network and then connect to my home network drives when I connect to my home network?

    I have my home networks setup to connect at login but its inconvenient to restart my MacBook when I come home?

    removing ace stream

    I had ace stream on my machine for a bit, but i removed it, yet, the little menu icon still shows up, cmd+dragging does not seems to work to remove it. When I go to Users & Groups to see Login Items, it is not there... Any idea how I get the icon from my menu bar?

    Can I adjust my hosts file automatically based on the network I'm connected to?

    I've got a server running out of my home, and my ISP-provided equipment doesn't allow for me to access it via its external IP while inside the house. This is inconvenient for testing my server's virtual hosts or HTTPS, because I need the domain name I enter to be correct to get the intended result. Now, I could adjust /private/etc/hosts and map the domain name to the correct local IP, but then I'd have to change it every single time I leave the house and work elsewhere (daily), and then change it back later. Does MacOS provide a good way to automate this, so that if I'm on my home network I have an additional hosts entry?

    Edit: I figured it out! I set up a script, running as a launchd service, that updates my hosts file when the network state changes.

    Catalina Folder Sidebar Problem

    Since upgrading to Catalina, I'm having issues dragging files into the folders of the Sidebar. A few of the folders allow it and other don't.

    Dropbox, I can't. My Documents folder, I can. A folder inside of Documents, I can. A folder nested twice down into Documents, I can't. A different folder inside Documents, I can't.

    There's no reasoning to this. Anyone have an idea what's going on?

    MAC OSX High Sierra - Connecting to external monitor - dock goes haywire

    Hey guys, I got a macbook pro (mid-2012 or mid-2013, I can find out for certain if it's really important), and it was running slower than frozen molasses. So my brother (the doctor) said, just buy a SSD and put it in, it'll be like a new computer. So i purchased this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/WD-BLUE-3D-500GB-NAND-SATA-2-5-7mm-SSD-WDS500G2B0A/915921961 on his recommendation. He said just put it in.

    So I did that but the mac couldn't find a partition, there was no way to install catalina as I could not select a drive to install it to. I used internet recovery. Anyways, since then, it has been nothing short of a nightmare. I hooked it up to a PC and did the whole diskpart.exe thing. Among other things, but it never ever finds a partition. So, I bought a sata to usb cable, hooked it up that way, and got it installed. Now, it works, but only from the USB. If i disconnect it and try to move it internally- nothing. Blinking folder on bootup. I can take the old internal drive out, and have just the new drive connected by USB, and it works. So, how do I be able to move it internally and work?
