Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:55 AM PST Latest version of Catalina. I'm trying to sync my photos library to my Mac but at the moment it's stuck. It was at 140 remaining for days and the only way I can get it to actually download an image is by manually selecting it and bringing up the full view, then it'll do it straight away and bring the total remaining number down. I've been doing that for a while now and gotten it down to 87 remaining but now I can't find which images have and haven't downloaded. Does anyone know of a fix to get them syncing properly? Or a way to find out which images haven't fully downloaded so I can go through them one by one [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:07 PM PST I just received in the fast insider the new outlook for mac. Is the same than the other one without ribbon. Slow, bad performance, ugly, no schedule options. And the "New email" form is the same with same buttons. It's pretty far behind from the windows version. If the new outlook for mac was a 50% of the Outlook for iOS I will be happy. I will sticky with Spark and macOS email client. Sorry Microsoft, but no worth it. Sorry my english. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:37 PM PST I've seen more than one person post on this sub and r/applehelp about macOS Catalina doing some crap and breaking peoples computers. However the computer wont stop bugging me about it. It REALLY wants to update. Should I, or is it still doing crap? [link] [comments]

Any alternatives to Paparazzi that work on Catalina? Looking to export pages to put into Sketch Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:22 PM PST Paparazzi no longer works on new OS's, but I want to screencapture pages into SVGs and import them into Sketch. Does anyone have anything? Googling isn't getting me anywhere useful. [link] [comments]
Disable the Google Chrome Media key handling broke the media key completely in Catalina Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:17 PM PST I'm trying to stop chrome from hijacking the media key when chrome is the active app and I'd read somewhere on reddit that disabling the "chrome://flags/#hardware-media-key-handling" will do the work. But if I "disable" the flag, it completely disable the media key in every app in the macOS (Catalina). Anyone know how to fix this ? [link] [comments]
Catalina Clean Install: iTunes to Music migration? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:52 PM PST Looks like this will probably be the last upgrade for my 2012 Non-Retina MacBook Pro. Since I've gotten it, I've never done a reinstall... even when I upgraded from a spinning disc to an SSD (yay for upgradability!), I just cloned the drive. Needless to say, in 7 years and as a tinkerer, the machine has seen it's share of stuff installed and either abandoned or varying degrees of being uninstalled... it's time for a clean start as I move to Catalina. That being said... I've read the iTunes replacement apps have a different folder structure than they did under High Sierra... so how would I deal with that? I really don't want to do anything with Time Machine (besides a complete image for an "oh crap" upgrade)... I want to do a purely clean install and handle data myself, but the iTunes replacement has me tripped up. Does it expect to do the data migration during an Upgrade if you go that route? Or can I put the "iTunes" folder under ~/Music again and then it will migrate on the first launch? Am I better off doing an in-place upgrade which will do the data migration, and then doing another wipe and reinstall? [link] [comments]
Can macOS not always open windows centered? Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:43 AM PST I'm new to macOS and have only had my iMac since earlier this year. Is there a setting or an app that I can use to make all windows open centered in the screen? I hate opening a text document and it opens in the top left of the screen, I drag it to the center to read it more easily, close it and open a photo, and again, it opens in the top left corner of the screen.....wash and repeat. I'm on Catalina by the way. I don't know if this is even possible as I've been searching for weeks and can't find anything aside from apps that I can install and then use keyboard shortcuts to center windows....but I don't want to always have to click a button or use a shortcut to center screens [link] [comments]
Difference between Recovery Assistant and Recovery Mode? Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:19 AM PST So I'm making a clean install on my Mac and I'm using CMD+OPTION+R to go to the Recovery Mode to first wipe it and then install Catalina. But instead of bringing me to the known Recovery Mode, I get to Recovery Assistant. You know if there is a difference? [link] [comments]
Safari and installed fonts (device fingerprinting) Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:16 AM PST Hi, I seem to remember reading somewhere that Safari protects against font/device fingerprinting by only listing a generic list of fonts and not user installed fonts. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:16 PM PST I was wanting to lock down the MBP some more and been looking at a few options when I remembered boot passwords. Looking at the firmware password and wondering if it is worth it? It seems to already ask for the password for my main login and I have boot from external drives as set to off so aside from a second password someone might not know is there any reason to have it set? also is there a char limit to the password if I decide to set one and if I ever did need to take it to apple would that count as a warranty claim to reset the firmware password? thanks for the help. Help Developers! How can I make a bundle of a TERMINAL application? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:42 PM PST I am getting very confused on how to do it. It suspect my error is on the Info.plist. When I double click the .app It "does nothing". [link] [comments]
The font on Catalina is killing my eyes! Comparision. Posted: 07 Nov 2019 12:37 AM PST You can clearly figure out the difference between the font. Please compare these two images. Just look at Google in the URL and you can figure the problem in Catalina's image. EDIT: The font on Catalina has less character spacing as compared to Mojave. Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:54 PM PST So I have a problem - I have a MacBook Pro 13" late '11 and whenever I connect it to my (HP es24) external monitor through HDMI, I get screen flickering and glitches on the connected screen ONLY. I already tried and connected the Mac to another monitor through HDMI and it works fine. But at the same time, I connected another MacBook Air and a PC to this same buggy monitor and everything works fine! Any suggestions? [link] [comments]
How to remove MDM from Mac release from DEP? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:25 PM PST I bought a used Mac that was enrolled in MDM/DEP by a major corporation. They forget to disenroll it and I used it for months and didn't find out until this week when I installed Catalina in a partition of the hard drive. When Catalina connected to the Internet, a message that the Mac is remotely managed appeared. I called the phone number of the company managing it to confirm I didn't buy a stolen Mac and they said it was their mistake and disenrolled the machine from DEP. I called Apple Support and they advised I must erase the hard drive and reinstall the systems and software I use to remove all traces of MDM from the local machine. It seems there is a better way to check for and remove the profiles now that the machine was legitimately taken out of DEP on Apple's servers. Any advice? I do have administrative rights in all OSs I have installed in several disk partitions (it is multiboot Yosemite/Sierra/Mojave/Catalina). [link] [comments]
Catalina WindowServer Process with Podcasts and music apps open Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:57 PM PST i have a 27" 2017 imac with an external 4k display (running at scaled, larger font display), and noticed that Windowserver process was constantly running at around 23%, spiking to around 40%.. after quite a bit of research, i noticed that when i minimised my podcasts and music app, the process cpu dropped to around 4-5%. It seems that maybe these Catalyst-based apps aren't very optimised and a bit buggy. anyway, not sure what else to do with this information... [link] [comments]

Can’t open any files after Catalina Posted: 06 Nov 2019 02:37 PM PST Just updated to Catalina 10.15.1 and none of my files can be opened at all (Pages, Keynote, Numbers, PDF, PNG). Every time I open them, it comes up with an error box that says "Cannot open file". Ive restarted multiple times, logged out and logged back in, disk repair, added specific apps to full disk access security pane and still nothing. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:07 AM PST Has anyone else noticed that issue when you're in an album and go back to the library that it always automatically scrolls to the top of the library? I have that issue since the new 15.1 Update. [link] [comments]
Internet tethering over 2.4GHz Wifi while connected to internet on the 5GHz Wifi (is it possible?) Posted: 06 Nov 2019 02:18 PM PST As the title says. I know this is possible on PC with certain network cards, but I wasn't able to find anything on google due to the SEO job done by so many websites and receiving bad results. So I'm just wondering if this is possible. Maybe someone from the community knows. I'm using a MacBook Pro 13" Non-Touch Bar 2017 I want to have my laptop connected to the internet while I am directly connected to another device over wifi. I don't want to connect the device to the internet so I was planning to make it directly connect to my network when I tether it. [link] [comments] |
