Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:49 AM PST This is mostly helpful if you use an external sound system with the Apple TV plugged into that. With most TV speakers or if you use 3.5 mm speakers plugged into the TV, there are no issues. I've only had sync issues when using more advanced setups with the Apple TV plugged into a receiver or soundbar. So I've been having the occasional issue with my Apple TV 4K not syncing right with my Samsung soundbar and Sony TV. The sync is fine when not matching frame rate, but when I use match frame rate, the sync goes all kinds of places. And not using it is a annoying, since I watch a lot of 24 and 30 fps content as well as 25 fps content and the motion looks weird and stuttery when switching from one to the other and not using the auto switch. It's a huge improvement in motion handling for me on my setup. Anyway, I tried setting up the wireless audio sync when it was released, but I was still not happy with the results. Today, I was just casually looking at Apple's support article for the new tvOS update on wireless audio sync, I noticed this nugget hidden waaaaay in the bottom. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210526
Basically Apple doesn't tell you this clearly when using this function but you can set up a DIFFERENT sync for every format as long as you have an iPhone with iOS 13. The delay might not be the same for 30 fps content and 24 fps content, and indeed the sync from 4K60 is probably not even used if you have Match Frame Rate on and then turn on Game of Thrones (which is 24 fps). What you do is go to the video settings menu on your Apple TV 4K, flip on over to a different frame rate (for example 4K 25 fps SDR) and do the wireless audio sync again. This will create an individual sync for EACH AND EVERY FORMAT, including SDR and HDR which may have different syncs depending on your hardware setup. This appears to work with HDMI (and optical?) audio as well as airplay/bluetooth setups. Lord knows why Apple doesn't tell you any of this or have this automated if you use match frame rate. I went through and did the wireless sync on 4K60, 4K50, 4K30, 4K25 and 4K24 in both SDR and HDR and now the sync appears pretty much perfect where it was spotty before, even with auto match frame rate turned on. I did end up doing the sync 10 times, once for each format, which took a while but hopefully I won't have to do it again. I post this in the hope that I will save someone else from tearing their hair out and not getting their Apple TV syncing properly :) [link] [comments]
Ideas for mounting Apple TV behind LG OLED? Posted: 07 Nov 2019 02:28 AM PST I have a 55" LG OLED B8, and I was thinking of mounting the Apple TV behind it (and possibly wall-mounting the TV itself, so I don't want the ATV to interfere with the VESA holes). Has anyone done this and can recommend a method or product that works well? Retail or perhaps 3D printed? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Nov 2019 03:57 AM PST Game streaming via moonlight and steam link work great with the Xbox controller, but I'd like to buy a Bluetooth mouse to use as well. Anyone have any luck using a Bluetooth mouse with Apple TV? If so which one? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Apple TV Siri Remote Stuck in “Pairing” Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:33 PM PST Went to use tonight. Randomly no response. Charged for 2 hours. No response. Tried to re-pair get "Bring closer to Apple TV" after that says "Remote Connected" and no response. Have tried to pair through the menu/volume button 20 times now, same outcome. I have updated software manually (despite automatic being turned on, makes sense), reset after "pairing" and nothing. Suggestions? In 1 week my 2016 Macbook Pro and now my remote have stopped working for no reason. Guess Apple decided they want more of my money. Can't wait for my year old iPad pro and iPhone 11 Pro to "expire" in the next day now too. [link] [comments]

I love my new Apple TV 4K... except when trying to watch 4K/HDR content: black screen issues. Help. Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:02 PM PST Whenever I change inputs and go back to my Apple TV, I get a black screen. I need to start pressing buttons on the Siri remote, then once in a while it'll go back on. Other times, I need to cycle the inputs which will sometimes bring the Apple TV back up. Best case scenario, the Apple TV will eventually come back on after a minute or two. Sometimes I'll have audio and no video (Likely when pushing buttons, I started playing content). I was having significant issues when I would go from 4K and/or HDR content to other resolutions (HD, SD). I would get the black screen. Sometimes it would only be black for 5-10 seconds. Sometimes it just gets stuck. I disabled the "match dynamic range" and "match frame rate" settings, which someone suggested in a previous post. That sort of worked, but I'm still having constant black screen issues. I know it's not my TV. My old Apple TV worked fine and my PS4 doesn't have any issues when going from SDR to HDR10 (the screen goes black for a second and that's it). I've Googled the issue and I can't seem to find a definitive solution. I saw posts from a year or two ago of people complaining about the same thing. Has anyone found a resolution for this? Thank you for the help. Note: I have the video format set to the default (4K Dolby Vision 60Hz). [link] [comments]

iTunes vs Movies Anywhere vs Vudu best 4K HDR/Dolby Vision quality Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:34 AM PST I bought my first Apple TV 4K yesterday and am wondering which streaming app offers the best image quality/highest bit-rates when it comes to digital 4K Dolby Vision movies- iTunes, MA or Vudu?...recently Movies Anywhere added Dolby Vision support to a bunch of titles...so if a movie is available in 4K DV on all 3 platforms which is the best way to watch it? is AppleTV currently blocking connections to Netflix/Amazon Prime? Posted: 07 Nov 2019 02:54 AM PST Due to my ISP I am forced to use an AppleTV hardware to get their IP TV. for almost 20h now I cannot connect to Netflix or Prime on the AppleTV device. Every other app works normal. On every other device in my home Network I can still connect and watch Netflix/Prime. This would be a strange coincidence right after AppleTV+ launch. Of course I did the usual restarting, app stopping troubleshooting steps. Can anyone else confirm? [link] [comments]
Giving old Apple TV to in-laws Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:52 PM PST Bought a ATV 4K and am giving my old ATV 4 to my in-laws. I want to make sure they get the free ATV+ for a year since I already have it activated on my account due to a recent phone upgrade. Any idea how that might work logistically? How would I sign in to ensure there account would get the ATV+ subscription? I have to ship the old model to them as well. [link] [comments]
new ATV 4K owner- some questions Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:28 PM PST I bought a new ATV 4K yesterday and I'm finding that the user interface on some apps are worse then when I used those same apps via my Smart TV's built-in apps...I have an LG C7 OLED...Vudu and Prime Video were much better in terms of UI...with the ATV when using Vudu or Prime Video it doesn't show me if 4K/Dolby Vision/HDR10 are active for example when I used Vudu using my TV's built-in apps it would show me if I'm getting 4K resolution and if HDR10/DV is currently active...same with Amazon Prime Video...sometimes the Amazon app would stream for a few seconds or so in 1080p HD before staying at 4K and it was nice to have that visual indicator...is there any way I can view this info using the ATV I know the ATV shows if a program or movie supports DV/HDR but I want to see what I'm getting while the program is running on my TV...hope that makes sense 2) anyone have a list of all the 4K apps available on the ATV? Dropped/freezing inputs on PS4 controller with Apple TV 4K Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:10 PM PST I don't know if this is a common problem for other people playing stuff on Apple Arcade, or if it's limited to a single type of controller, but when I try to use my PS4 controller on my Apple TV 4K, I'll occasionally get dropped inputs for a moment, and the controller will seemingly continue to send whatever inputs were happening when the drop started (i.e. if I'm holding left and pressing X, then for a second or two it'll keep "holding down" left and X, even if I have let go of the buttons myself). I've tried moving my Apple TV unit out from behind the TV to provide line of sight for the controller, but to no avail. Anyone else experience troubles along these lines? More importantly, anyone else find a way to fix this? : \ [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:50 PM PST Anyone in Canada have TSN Direct that can answer a question for me? I know the app does on demand for past events, and of course live, but what I am unsure of is, does the app allow replay? For example, I am a Nascar fan but I work till 2pm on Sundays, the race is usually well in progress when I get home, will I be able to go into the app and restart the broadcast from the beginning, or will I have to wait until it's completed and use the on demand feature? AppleTV turning off when AirPlaying from phone Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:53 PM PST I have my AppleTV set to turn off after 30 minutes of inactivity, in tvOS 12 and before AirPlaying from my phone counted as activity and the TV would stay on as long as music was playing. Ever since iOS 13/tvOS 13 the AppleTV shuts off after 30 minutes while I'm still AirPlaying music. Anyone else experience this or have a fix? [link] [comments]
Does anyone else have trouble with remote tap fast forward and Hulu?? Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:05 AM PST Apple TV remotes have the super handy tap forward or back 15 seconds by resting your thumb on either edge and pressing. Hulu has the incredibly NOT handy "swipe up for more to watch". My wife and I have grown increasingly frustrated trying to navigate with the tap forward or back in Hulu, because it's almost like 95% of the time we tap, it brings up the swipe up menu!!! Like seriously sometimes we're so stumped at how it keeps popping up because we're NOT swiping up at all. I think this started happening with a recent update, don't know if it's Hulu's side or Apple TV. Are we alone in having this issue?? [link] [comments]
