Back in the dark ages before OSX, you could get a little gizmo (I think it was called Boomerang) that would do this thing: if you were working in a folder, it would keep returning you to the folder until you did something different. It was good and saved all kinds of time, and it was the right thing to do. Right now, I'm in Illustrator, needing to load various images from a folder. Every flipping time I go back, I'm sent to the Documents folder. None of this stuff is in the Documents folder. The OS should be smart enough to see "user is working in folder X, I should bring her back to folder X next time" – no? Have I forgotten some important setting, or is "go back to the Documents folder" now a thing? This would be High Sierra, CS5, running on an older Mini, if it matters. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Macbook Pro crashed after OS update.. password no longer works Posted: 07 Nov 2019 01:38 PM PST Greetings, I am having an issue with my Macbook Pro and possibly the password. I updated my Mac OS to the latest version (I am not sure what the previous version was) but now it stopped working. I get to the login screen but it won't accept my password. The file system is now APFS, so the data is encrypted. I thought I knew my password but for some reason its not getting accepted. Keep getting wrong password error. I have used iCloud and other Apple services on my Macbook in the past and I am curious if the password for the laptop is in-sync with my apple account or icloud or if its just some random password that I put in initially during setup!? | Post-Catalina Update: Waking Harddrive from Sleep Issue Posted: 07 Nov 2019 08:10 PM PST Hello community! Been experiencing this weird issue post updating to Catalina. After the intended idle time the harddrive is set to go to sleep, this behavior is normal. What is not normal is when I try to wake the laptop. I get a black screen and when i hit the power button once or play with the brightness keys I only receive backlight, illuminating the black screen on the display. This behavior is present in either case; leaving the laptop idle and as well as when I close the lid with the harddrive getting placed to sleep. Only way to recover for this is performing a hard shutdown and power the system back on, which results in all work left open getting lost :( Thing I have tried:
I tried working with support via chat and was not able to get a solution, they basically directed me to contact via phone and see if I can get hold of a senior Advisor. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I just want confirmation that I am not the only one seeing this issue. Regards! [link] [comments]  | ||

| no WiFi hardware found after Catalina Upgrade Posted: 08 Nov 2019 01:00 AM PST Hi guys, so last week a friend of mine upgraded his Macbook Pro late 2013 to macOS Catalina, because I had no isssues on my own macbook pro (2017). The upgrade did work but as soon as he logged into his account, he could not use wifi anymore. Tha console logged for the Wifi Agent, that no Wifi hardware is installed. So I tried everything Ifound on the web, starting with resetting NV & PRAM, using safe mode, checking for old config files, creating a new user, repearing acces rights, and I dont know anymore what we tried to get it working again, NOTHING helped! I decided to reinstall macOS clean but this was not possible because the mac was not connected to the internet - he now bought an usb to ethernet adapter to be able to connect to the internet again.. We will do an SSD upgrade anyways and therefore will clean install the system again, but has anyone here experienced anything else and found a solution? [link] [comments]  | ||

| Need Help! Macbook Pro 2015 OS Catalina won’t connect to public wifi (university, starbucks, etc.) Posted: 07 Nov 2019 07:37 PM PST As the title states, I'm having a lot of trouble configuring connection to WiFi, especially when in public spaces. The computer is able to connect to my home wifi and my girlfriend's home wifi but fails to connect to an Airbnb wifi, Starbucks wifi, and University wifi. It's very frustrating because during the connection (when the bar moves up and down) my whole computer locks up (pointer won't move) for 1-2 min (even longer when it fails to connect). These freezes happen whether the computer is able to or not able to connect. It is extremely frustrating because when the computer cannot connect it keeps trying, basically making the computer useless. I've tried almost every remedy that I can find online and nothing has worked. Have you guys ever encountered this problem? I had so much difficulty trying to find anything even similar to this. Thank you ahead of time for your help! Edit: At another StarBucks location and its working flawlessly... Not too sure why it was acting up so much at the other location. | Posted: 07 Nov 2019 10:07 PM PST I've switched over to the native reminders app from using wunderlist only cuz wunderlist doesn't have an apple watch app. However, the native reminders app's smart list just sucks ass, or is it just me? Has anyone gotten the smart list feature to work properly? What I mean is, when I type a date for a reminder it often doesn't detect it, or it suggests a date for the following year instead. I've had no issue doing this with wunderlist where if I type "11/25/19" it'll immediately set that as the date for the reminder, whereas it hardly works with macOS's native reminder app. [link] [comments]  | ||

Posted: 07 Nov 2019 07:16 PM PST I plugged in my iphone to my macair to charge and I keep getting a message saying a software update is required to connect. well i don't want to connect, i just want to charge my phone. so i press not now. the message goes away and then it disconnects my phone and connects it again and then the message comes back. my iphone keeps connecting and disconnecting with the same update required message popping up every time. when i press not now, nothing happens. | MacOS Catalina - Deleting files isn't freeing up needed space Posted: 07 Nov 2019 02:04 PM PST Hi, Since i've updated to Catalina from Mojave i've noticed I only had 60gb's left on my Hard Disk. As a video production company that isn't something new and I just switch some old projects to one of my harddisks. However, it isn't freeing up any space. And it looks like its even shrinking. I can't even open Mac Mail anymore which I need. Ofcourse i've tried a lot of different methods found on the internet. About local snapshots and such (I do use Time Machine). Reindexing Spotlight etc. "tmutil listlocalsnapshots /" comes up with an empty list since i've deleted every snapshot with "tmutil listlocalsnapshotdates|grep -e "^2"|xargs -n 1 -- sudo tmutil deletelocalsnapshots" Still no free space. But im kind of losing my mind at the moment and im not sure what to check or try anymore. Can someone please help. Edit: JDiskReport shows around 300GB used in users, which is about right. I have 1TB of disk space, but i can't find the other 700GB's.. [link] [comments]  | ||
| Help with Apple script permissions please. Posted: 07 Nov 2019 05:37 PM PST I have written a Java application that contains some apple scripts inside its package. /applications/my.app/contents/java/AppleScript This AppleScript tells PowerPoint to play. Mac is blocking it saying it does not have permission to control PowerPoint. It references the actual Apple script not the app calling it. I have added the app to full disk access. I have checked automation in security and there is no way for me to add a file. Can I add a file to automation permissions via terminal? What else should I do? Version is Catalina.
