On average, how much better is the current 13 inch MBA’s battery than the current 13 inch MBP? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:04 PM PST Battery life is most important to me, don't exactly care so much about the power. All I do is surf the web, use mathtype, etc. Any personal anecdotes between the two? Battery is key for me. Disappointed in 2017 nTB MBP battery life. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:47 PM PST Hi all! I've just started working at a place and was offered a brand new Macbook Pro 13 as my work machine. The thing is, I have never used Mac before, never owned an Apple product. I do have basic knowledge with the command line though. My work will involve coding in Python and R, and submitting files to a remote Linux server to run highly demanding tasks. I am looking if you guys know any: comprehensive tutorials of setting up a new macbook for developers, power user guides (key combinations, customize by terminal, etc), working with remote servers on Mac. Also general Mac tips are welcome. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Nov 2019 09:54 AM PST My MacBook Air broke on me a month ago now and I'm going to end up buying a new laptop during their Black Friday "sale" Trying to decide which model I should buy if anybody has any advice. I really only use it to stream my movies and tv shows, the odd online shopping. Any advice is appreciated ! [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro Battery and Sleep explanation wanted Posted: 03 Nov 2019 04:43 PM PST New to Mac's and just purchased a MacBook Pro. I did some research online and was finding somewhat conflicting information and was hoping for accurate info here. 1) If I am using the MacBook for a couple of hours each day, with say a 24 hour - 48 hour period between each use - is it better to close the lid, choose the "sleep" option, OR "shut down"? I am not concerned about the device syncing up with my iPhone OR if it takes longer to boot up. I'd rather keep the battery from draining if shutting down doesn't negatively affect the laptop or OS. Is closing the lid the same thing as sleep? 2) I have read that it's not good to completely drain your battery, and am also reading that keeping it on the charger doesn't hurt the battery as it is not "overcharging" Should the MacBook always be connected to a power source when possible to reduce "cycles" or is it best to use off of the charger every once in a while? If so is once a week often enough? 2x a week? I did the obvious things of not keeping a ton of apps open, update to the latest version, reduce brightness, etc. I know batteries don't last forever, and that "it's just a laptop use it when you need to" but I do want to understand how this thing works so I can get the best performance with it. When to lock and when to sleep macbook? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:29 PM PST My macbook lives open on a desk. When leaving it I can either press command control q to lock it or the power button to sleep it. Either way the screens turn off and I need to enter my password to get back in. Despite the pretty much identical wake times, my understanding is that sleep shuts down more processes. Which is healthier for the macbook? Always sleep? Always lock? Sleep overnight but lock if just going to lunch? I have an air so no mechanic hdd in play. [link] [comments]

Do you think Apple will upgrade Base Macbooks next year? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:14 PM PST More specifically, do you think they'll finally upgrade base Airs to have quad-core CPUs, in addition to making all base Macbooks models have 256GB storage and 16GB RAM? (All while keeping pricing the same.) Or is that hoping for too much? [link] [comments]
Which version of Windows for Bootcamp? (2019) Posted: 03 Nov 2019 01:44 PM PST I have a late 2018 Macbook Pro - and have some very specific software that unfortunately is only available for Windows. What is the most minimal version of Windows that can still play well on a Mac - in 2019. Would love it if I could roll with Windows 7. Forgive me if this is already a well covered topic. Regarding Applecare plus and Applecare protection plan Posted: 03 Nov 2019 11:29 AM PST Hello! I am new to Apple products since I bought a Macbook Pro recently. I am now interested in expanding my warranty; is Applecare plus or Applecare protection plan available in local Apple stores (Germany)? [link] [comments]

Recommendations for a MacBook Pro case? Posted: 03 Nov 2019 06:18 AM PST I can't seem to find much out there aside from the generic amazon ones. I'm looking for something that covers the whole computer, as opposed to a shell. I like the BookBook, but it looks like it would definitely scratch the MacBook. The Thule Gauntlet looks like the only decent one I can find, but it's out of stock on amazon and has mixed reviews. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm going to be carrying it around in backpack all week. I have a 2015 MBP. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Nov 2019 03:01 AM PST For about 6-7 years, I have been using the macbook pro 13 inch mid 2012. I use it a lot for my studies, which sometimes include downloading certain softwares. But I think the most I use it is for the Microsoft office word. I also installed windows (bootcamp) as certain software is not available on the Mac os. I think since the 1 or 2 year mark my mac started to become slower and not fast responding and years went it became more slower.... and in early 2018, i had to replace my battery cause it didn't work. And last month the battery kept dying fast and eventually the battery is swelled.... I can't make decisions on whether to go for the macbook air or the pro. I don't game or edit videos. But I would like to use it for GIS (the QGIS software). And would like to reinstall my windows into the new mac as I paid a lot for that and i dont want it to go to waste. I think nowadays i would be only using it for safari, word, excel, QGIS. As I just finished my studies, Im not sure If I would need to use my personal computer for work, if so then I would be doing a lot on it... I saw the 2017 macbook air, and thats the cheapest I found... but then Im thinking would be slow after a year.... the price is attractive but I don't know about the long run... So basically im looking at the 2017 air, 2019 air and the new pro. Which do you think would be a good choice? A d so sorry for long post 🙈 [link] [comments]
