FaceTime camera is being used by another application. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:55 PM PST I had this problem since upgrading to 13.2. Front facing camera works but unable to switch to back camera without getting this notice. When I try to flip the camera, it freezes my FaceTime app and it says paused to the person receiving the call. I turned off apps that have access to the camera [link] [comments] |

Right end of screen is scrambled on MacBook Air. Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:44 PM PST The right side of the screen on my MacBook Air is scrambled. This first started when I booted up my computer yesterday. The scrambling happens anytime the computer is on (i.e. both during and after startup and). I tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM, with no effect. Any suggestions or thoughts as to whether this is a problem with just the the screen or other hardware? At what point does Apple do a full replacement for the MacBook Pro? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:55 PM PST I have had it with my 2016 MacBook Pro 13". I bought it in 2017 January and it lay collecting dust until this year when I started actually using it. In June, my flex cable and keyboard both died. Naturally, I was annoyed but Apple replaced the keyboard, battery and top case in one day so I didn't mind it too much. Just around a month after that, my display started turning green at random times. I took it into Apple a couple of weeks ago, they downgraded me to the "stable" version of Catalina (which is a whole problem in itself) and then when the issue came back, they replaced the display. It took them a week to do so, in which I had to rely on a Windows laptop with a VM. I thought that'd be the end of my woes but nope, just last night, while doing some programming with Xcode, the damn spacebar started to die. The spacebar is one of the most important keys on the keyboard! It now requires a lot of force to push it and it feels sticky, although it doesn't repeat keys or not register my input. It's just harder to push. Now my questions are 1. Is this under the service programme seeing as its only hard to push? and 2. At what point does Apple replace the entire unit? I feel like I've got a lemon of a laptop and I cannot wait another week while Apple replaces my keyboard because running a hackintosh is far from ideal. I have owned 9 Apple products since 2011, and none of them have had any issues save for this one. It is extremely frustrating for me, especially as I am legally a minor and my father, who never liked Apple in the first place, is required to sign for repairs and is also getting tired of my visits to Apple as well. Thank you for your help. [link] [comments] |
New phone, refund, what happens to trade in? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:42 PM PST Bought an 11 Pro 64 and used iPhone 8 as trade in. I did this at the Apple Store but through Verizon financing. I was given $220 for the trade in toward new monthly payments for the 11. Long story short, I realized I needed to get the 256 storage model. I returned less than 3 days later to the Apple Store to take advantage of their return policy. While I was reassured this wasn't an issue, at the store, as we were completing the transaction, I was told by the Apple employee that I would not receive my trade in value towards my new monthly payments or as a refund to my card from Apple. The employee and also a manager told me Verizon had my money and would somehow return it to me within a week (account credit or lower monthly payments). They also said I wouldn't have to pay both activation fees (3 days to cancel a contract here and not be liable for fee). Verizon flagship store employee told me I would get a refund (probably) for the activation fee after a billing cycle but that the trade in was done at Apple Store and therefore they have nothing to do with it. I went back to the Apple Store and they once again restated their position. Anyone have experience returning/exchanging a phone or device at Apple Store with a trade in and through carrier financing? It's been about 10 days and Verizon hasn't refunded me as far as I can tell. I was contemplating just selling privately for ~$300 but took this route as it was supposed to be the "easy" way out. I'm now worried my trade in value is "lost". [link] [comments] |
Siri Remote - touchpad not swiping. All other buttons work fine Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:26 PM PST I just got a brand new Siri remote for my Apple TV 4K. All of the buttons are working except for when I try to swipe left right up or down. I just did a complete restore on my Apple TV thinking that would solve it. No luck. I'm not sure what else to do. Trying to backup iPhone via iTunes, keeps saying iPhone disconnected Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:08 PM PST Hi all, I have been trying to do a full backup onto my computer via iTunes, however after around 2 minutes into the backup, I get an error message saying "iTunes could not back up iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". I have an iPhone 6, 64GB which is completely full on storage. I have tried backing it up on 2 different computers, tried using 2 different USB cables, tried using all USB ports on the computer, tried restarting my phone before trying to backup, reset network settings, tried backing up whilst having low power mode and airplane mode on, I have basically tried everything suggested online with no results. Is there anything that I could do? I really wanted to do a full backup on the computer so I can delete photos and free up storage. Thankyou for your help, it is much appreciated. [link] [comments] |
iPad air 2 suddenly won't charge Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:27 PM PST For some reason, my iPad has stopped charging when I plug it into the power. For a few months, it has been working fine but displaying the "not charging" at the top of the screen, but it was still charging regardless of that message. Now whenever I go to plug it in, nothing happens, the screen won't even turn on. I've tried with new cables and a new power adapter and it still doesn't work. [link] [comments] |
Messages still indexing after almost a month Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:22 PM PST I updated to 13.1 at the beginning of the month. When I go through my messages, and tap "info", where I can usually find all images sent, I get the images sent since the update, with a message saying "More photos will be shown once Messages finishes indexing". This message has been showing up in all of both regular text conversations and iMessage conversations for the past month. The older photos still exist if I scroll far enough back in the message history, but not indexed like before. I have deleted and redownloaded all messages from the cloud and the photos still did not reappear. I have updated to 13.2, no change. I have iCloud uploads turned on for my messages, and have toggled it on and off, with restarts, no change. I have gone Settings>Siri & Search>Messages and turned everything off and on with restarts. None of this has changed anything. Is there anything I can do to fix this? There are so many pictures that i like to keep handy in iMessage history and not being able to easily find them is a massive hassle. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
iPhone to MacBook: Screen Mirror + control the iPhone using the MacBook's keyboard/mouse Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:12 PM PST I read a lot about Screen Mirror and AirPlay and such, but couldn't find a solution yet. I do have an iPhone 6s and and MacBook Pro from 2011 (still on 10.13.6). I want to:
Is this possible at all? And if so, how? Do I need extra hard-/software? Thanks a lot in advance! [link] [comments] |
How hot is too hot on MacBook Pro 2019? Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:08 PM PST Just got a new MacBook pro and I'm concerned about the thermal cooling abilities. It often becomes too hot to touch (for more than 10 seconds) on the underside of the device, this sometimes occurs without charging (just watching videos etc.) [link] [comments] |
Brand new iPhone, having to login each time when switching between apps Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:00 PM PST When switching between Chrome/Safari and another app like GMail, I need to login to the page that I previously had loaded in my browser. This just takes extra time as I usually need to navigate back to the specific page that I was on after logging back into the website. In the past, the website would stay loaded for a good amount of time before I was logged out. My login always auto fills. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro Max and restored from a back up. I've only had iPhones in the recent years and don't remember this issue and I'm not sure how to fix it. Is there a way to change this? [link] [comments] |
Given 2 iPhone 7s with the same failure Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:45 PM PST Here is a timeline of my frustrations: My iPhone 7 of 18 months lost service when I was 37 weeks pregnant. It is a known Apple issue. Apple initially tells me I need to go without a phone for 5-15 days at 37 weeks pregnant. I say no, that is too dangerous, and Apple overnights me a replacement phone, and reimburses me the cost once I sent my broken phone back. 13 months later, my new phone is apparently the same model and has lost service again. Apple tells me once again I need to be without a phone for 7-10 days. I'm super annoyed because I guess I assumed that my the phone Apple sent me wouldn't have this issue. My husband pushes a little harder, because this is a known Apple issue, and a very helpful person who sympathizes with our consistent frustration, tells us that Apple will once again ship us a new phone and we will send back the broken phone. I wait patience for 1 week, and on Saturday we get a call where they state that I have to send the phone in and be without a phone for 7-10 days. I've already been without a phone for a week and half, and it has been especially difficult. I am a stay at home Mom, so I have avoided going out, so I can stay on the wifi for safety purposes. The internet went out once and I had no way to contact anyone for 3 hours. I feel like I am being manipulated into purchasing a new phone. I admit, I am saving to purchase a new phone within the next year, but I have no yet reached my savings goal, and purchasing a new phone right before Christmas will be finically difficult for my family. I don't understand why I am consistently given phones with expiration dates. I'm not sure if anyone has an answer, but I appreciate the opportunity to vent. [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Shutdown/Restart is stuck at black screen with cursor Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:23 PM PST Hey guys, Been crawling the internet for an answer for this one and called Apple Support but had no success. Last night I did the latest security update for my MBP 2011 and went to restart it to finish the installation. MBP went to a black screen with my cursor able to move around but wouldn't complete the full shutdown/restart. Ended up having to manual shutdown with the power button and when I come back to my desktop I still have the "need to restart to compete installation" prompt. Here's what I've tried as suggestions from other forums, but had no success: -entering recovery mode > terminal > deleting the AppleLogin.plist -resetting the PRAM and SMC -reinstalling the latest OS via recovery mode, this completed the installation of the new software but the problem with shutdown/restart was still there. At the moment I'm doing a restore from before I did the update from my backup, hoping that the problem will go away and I'll just stick with the previous OS. However if it's an easy fix I'd like to stay up to date with the software updates that come out periodically. Has anybody had this before? Any insight/advice is appreciated! Cheers [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:35 PM PST I have a gripe about Apple Maps. Not sure if it's the same with all/most map apps, since Apple Maps is all I use. When searching for food near me, or food in a focused area, it only shows a few of the places offered instead of all the places near me. Is there a way to get all of the results and turn off this hidden filter? Edit: I realize I should include a better example to emphasize the issue I'm having here. I have to manually search for Popeyes to find it instead of it showing up in the broader "Food" search. [link] [comments] |
External Monitor Help: Getting 2017 13" MBP to display 3440 x 1440 on Monitor Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:22 PM PST I just purchased a new 34" external monitor (Acer ED347CKR) that has a native resolution of 3440 x 1440. When I connect my 2017 13" MBP (Mojave 10.14.6) via a HDMI cable (through an adapter) I'm unable to select that resolution for the display. Instead, it maxes out at 2560 x 1440 (either scaled or selecting "best for ED347CKR"). Option + clicking on the scaled selection doesn't add any alternate resolutions above 2560 x 1440. Mac suggests that it should be able to support this resolution for an external monitor (https://support.apple.com/kb/SP754?locale=en_US). There isn't a problem with the cable/adapter setup as I can plug in a Lenovo laptop and get 3440 x 1440 output with no problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Email Contacts - Siri Found in Apps Posted: 04 Nov 2019 02:25 PM PST I have an iPhone 8 with the latest IOS. Is there a way to turn off the "siri found in apps" feature in the email app that comes up when you type in an email address? It pulls a bunch of random email contacts. Everything I've tried so far (settings > mail > siri & search and turning off all of those options) hasn't worked. [link] [comments] |
Landscape keyboard not expanding Posted: 04 Nov 2019 05:58 PM PST Has this problem been addressed at all? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8081089 New to IOS and its pretty disappointing that the keyboard won't expand. The keys on iPhone are already smaller than android so I wanted to use landscape to get larger key experience. [link] [comments] |
