About Catalina 64-bit only support, Disavantage ? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:12 AM PDT Well, I wonder if Catalina only support 64-bit and new App, then people that stuck with old App and 32-bit stuff will never want to upgrade into Catalina for such dis-advantage. I'm one of them and have to downgrade back to Mojave for my toolset of living. So what reason would you guys upgrade to Catalina ? What Apple think about this move ? [link] [comments]
How to lose all data by cancelling the move procedure Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:31 AM PDT I wanted to move some my data from one folder to another. It's easy if you know hotkeys (Cmd+C and Cmd+Alt+V). But I noticed that the destionation folder is wrong!!! So I just cancel the process. Finder move several files into new folder and... delete all other data from the source folder... Good Job!!! However, having upgraded to Catalina last month, and recently swapping to Apple Music (from Spotify), I'm quite baffled by how everything works. There's lots of small tutorials/help files online from Apple in how to do things, and also here on Reddit, but the whole journey is disjointed and I wonder if I'm doing the whole thing wrong. The main issues/questions I have are: Music (the app itself)
Apple Music (the subscription) Coming from Spotify, I find lots of things are very different:

Another Downgrade from Catalina issue :) Posted: 22 Oct 2019 11:45 PM PDT Hey there macOS users. I keep my oppinion about catalina and broken stuff there hidden ... not necessary to discuss it I guess :) Since my late 2017 iMac is not running well with catalina (especially apps, which should run well in catalina, but don´t) I want to downgrade. But it is OK ... the most important data is in the cloud or manually saved elsewhere so if I have to wipe the complete drive ... it is what it is and I am OK with it (at least it will be a not messed up installation then haha) The iMac is using a 2TB Fusion Drive ...Since I had problems to upgrade to newer iterations back in High Sierra times (always got a drive defect message), I had to wipe the Fusion Drive into the single SSD and HDD part and reassemble them together (did it in terminal within the recovery mode but can´t remember the commands ... it did work and that was the only important point) Will there then also Catalina be used or another iteration of macOS? (If I remember right ... my iMac were shipped with Sierra) Best regards [link] [comments]

Finder shortcut to data drive in Catalina? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 01:09 AM PDT Hi, has anyone found a way to have a shortcut to your data drive in the Finder sidebar? Or even on the Desktop? It seems that when I drag the icon for the data drive from System/Volumes into the Finder sidebar, or make an alias, it becomes a shortcut to the root drive. I don't know why they decided to call both the root drive and the data drive 'Macintosh HD' but seems I cannot rename the data drive either (you can rename it but it still shows up as Macintosh HD). Surely wanting an easy shortcut to your data drive is not an unusual thing? I can't understand why they made it so hard!!! [link] [comments]
[Question] What's The Directory Structure for Music/Podcasts/TV on a Fresh Catalina Install? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 08:20 PM PDT I can't seem to find this info anywhere...if you're working on a clean Catalina install, what's the directory structure created for the three new media apps? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:48 AM PDT Hey, I have two laptops: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) Macbook Air (2019) One is for work and one is for my side business. I want to connect both separately to two monitors. Should I buy USB-C monitors or standard? Do I need anything other than two cables for this set up to work? Please let me know as I really want dual monitor for productivity. [link] [comments]
Does anyone know how to download Chrome for Windows on a mac? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 10:21 PM PDT Because that's what I need to do and there doesn't seem to be any way to manually select what I want. Just automated detection crap. [link] [comments]
Can't save Photoshop files on a Synology share Posted: 23 Oct 2019 12:25 AM PDT I have this problem, where I open .psd file which is on a Synology share and when I try to save it I get "Could not save as "filename.psd" because write access was not granted." I can confirm that the user which connects to SMB share has full permissions to the file and folder and I can confirm that no other user is accessing the file. I have seen that there are posts with the same issue, but they are dated to 2015 or so, and those solutions like deselecting the file in finder or changing the view, do not work. macOS Mojave (10.14.5) [link] [comments]

Mail persistently opens in split view Posted: 22 Oct 2019 10:54 AM PDT I've gotten very annoyed with Mail persistently opening incoming messages in split view when using other apps fullscreen. Has anyone found a fix for this? I have already deselected the preferences box that says "prefer opening messages in split view when in full screen." Can anyone help? [link] [comments]
Catalina turned my music videos into home videos. Any ideas to fix? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 04:49 PM PDT I'm not certain that iTunes ever kept an accurate record of the media type because I'm sure I've previously had to remind it that certain files were not home videos, but actually should be filed as music videos. I know I've had to do that at past upgrades, but didn't think of it this time around. When I upgraded to Catalina, of course, everthing gets split into music videos in Music, and home videos in Apple TV. And of course, it put them in the wrong place. Any suggestions on how to get them where they belong? In iTunes I know I could just go to the Information window for a bunch of media and change their media type to correct this issue when it intermittently arose. But now they're in the wrong app entirely, and the media type selection is limited to those consistent with the app. Would love to hear any thoughts on a way to fix this without having to open the media files and drag them one by one to the Music app. Thanks. Posted: 22 Oct 2019 02:49 PM PDT Just curious if the majority use time machine, or if more people have migrated to Acronis or different options? I like the idea of being a faster option (heard acronis is way faster) and going to the cloud AND external hd. So, r/macOS how do you backup? [link] [comments]
Having issue with wireless devices under Catalina Posted: 22 Oct 2019 05:52 PM PDT Hey, everyone. I recently updated my iMac 2019 to macOS Catalina and all of my beloved Logitech devices stop working. Well, I believe the Logitech unifying software is able to recognize my devices, but only the scrolling wheel on my mouse and my keyboard are working. I have an MX ERGO trackball and a craft advance keyboard. Anyone is having the same issue? [link] [comments]
Any Adobe Users Running Catalina - When's It Safe To Update? Posted: 22 Oct 2019 03:07 PM PDT Hey all, Im wondering if there are any professional creators out there that have updated to Catalina already and how their programs like Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator and InDesign are working? It was suggested that you go to System Information and look under legacy to see what is still running in 32-bit. I have looked at my system information and I do have a small list of programs still listed in the "legacy" section and most of them are parts of Adobe programs. My MBP keeps encouraging me to updated to Catalina but Im not sure when it will be safe to do so? I JUST switched over to iPhone from Android last week and it's saying it needs the computer to be on Catalina for it to talk to iTunes. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Oct 2019 08:48 PM PDT Ever since I upgraded to Catalina, my phone cannot be synced. An error comes up and says "The iPhone cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." This is really stupid considering how big apple is. How the hell does a problem this big pass the beta test? [link] [comments]
