    Often used area is full of Apple emojis which I don't use and never will. They are so annoying and I can't get rid of them. I use only classic smilies.

    "Desktop" can't be opened because the original item can't be found

    After updating to macOS Catalina, I've been getting this messages when I try to access the Desktop from Finder. In addition, the same message pops up except "Desktop" is replaced with "Documents" when I try to access documents from Finder. How can I access both of these again?

    How to ONLY transfer contacts and messages when upgrading iPhones? Does setup allow "pick and choose"?

    This was asked on r/iPhone but hoping for a response here

    Sister's moving from iPhone 8 to 11 Pro. This is the first time she's bought an iPhone outright from Apple, rather than getting it through a carrier plan. Previously she would ask the reps to just transfer everything minus apps and photos (she plans to backup those with Google Photos).

    How would you do it so that Apple only transfers contacts and messages to the new iPhone and ignore pics/vids? (Especially if the new iPhone is not setup yet)

    The last thing she wants is to do is cram her iPhone's storage on day 1. (She has a lot of photos and videos)

    Note: her iCloud storage is full and it would take a lot of effort to get the phone storage back down to <5 GB.

    iPhone6 is stuck on iTunes Restore Screen. After updating to 12.4.2

    My wife's iPhone is stucked on the iTunes Restore Screen. I've tried updating the iOS 'coz it keeps on prompting. But after update it still won't go past the iTunes Screen. I haven't tried restoring it because my wife hasn't backed up her files on iCloud. Is there anyway possible that i could retieve the files and pictures? Even without saving the phone.

    AirPods Dropping Connection to Watch

    I have a 1st gen pair of AirPods, almost 3 years old, and well out of warranty. For the past few months they have been dropping the connection with my Apple Watch when I go out for a run. I have re-set them multiple times but the problem persists.

    At first I thought it was the battery dying, but they work fine at home when connected to my iMac or iPhone. And I've even tested them at home with the Apple Watch. But within 3-4 minutes of starting a run they lose connection and won't re-pair until I get back home, put them back in the case for a few moments, and reconnect to the Watch. Anyone experience anything similar?

    Somebody keeps hacking into my phone

    Somebody keeps hacking into my iPhone X (not jail broken) they keep fucking with my girlfriend and I through it. They get into all our social media even with 2FA and an app like Authy enabled. I change all of my social media as well as Apple ID passwords almost weekly. I've reset all my network settings, disabled phone calls and FaceTime for my email address so they can only be to and from my phone number, yet he still hacks it. Today he texted my girlfriend off my phone to mislead her to drive somewhere. He can also pick and choose which messages show up on our phones. So for example, he can hack into my phone, message somebody, and the message he sent nor the reply I get from somebody will never show up on my phone. I just don't get how any of this is possible and I consider myself to be tech-savvy. Could somebody please help? I don't need the "contact the police" answer or anything, I simply need a real solution to stop this from happening.

    iPhone 11 Pro Max Camera

    I recently upgraded from the X to the 11PM, and frankly, I can't quite understand some of the stuff it does. I'm usually pretty techy, I figure stuff out pretty well, but the camera has me mad confused.

    I get the ultra wide lens, I get the regular wide lens, I sorta understand what I'm getting from the zoom and then digital zoom, but there's a couple of things I'm definitely not getting. It says it takes multiple shots and then uses a mixture of the three to give you the best image. I'm finding that it sometimes gives me blurry photos even when parts of the Live Photo are beautifully clear.

    Second, how the hell does night mode work? I have yet to find a low light scenario where I'm getting the fantastic images that others are posting in reviews of the phone.

    Any help would be massively appreciated.

    MacBook stuck in software update loop

    I tried to do a software update on my MacBook and it keeps crashing. There's a screen that says "Your computer restarted because of a problem. Press a key or wait a few seconds to continue starting up." And then my computer restarts. I insert my password. It attempts to load the software update and crashes again. It's been doing this for a few days now. What should I do??

    iPhone 7 “no service” after iOS 13 update, repair options?

    My phone is having the issues and there is a recall program for it. https://support.apple.com/iphone-7-no-service I'm planning to take this to the store tomorrow, 1. Any software options I could try? Will iOS beta 13 worth testing? 2. If I take this to Apple store, any idea on the turn around time?

    When is my old Macbook Pro done for good?

    I've had a Macbook Pro (Mid 2010, currently running Sierra) since 2010. It has run like a charm for almost a decade. I have done some modifications to it-- I replaced the old drive with an SSD in 2015. I have also updated the RAM twice. It is currently running on 2 sticks which are a total of 16gb RAM-- which I added about two years ago.

    In the past year I've noticed this computer has slowed down significantly. I've gone through a lot of that procedural stuff (cleaning up the drive a little bit, emptying trash, monitoring app activity in Activity Log) but nothing seems to make it faster. I create music on this computer, which takes up a lot of CPU. This computer used to work well with my music software, but it's started giving me the "System Overload" pop-up more frequently.

    I'm not sure if I should try replacing the RAM one more time (just as a last ditch effort) or if I should just sell this one and move on?

    So how do I decide that it's time to say goodbye to my current Macbook and start saving up money for a new one?

    How to turn off the automatic lower music volume for certain apps/games?

    Hi

    Let's say that I want to listen to some music while playing a casual game. The problem is that Apple thinks that I want to lower the music volume while being in that game/app, probably so that I could hear the game sound better.

    The problem is that I don't want that. So I have to manually lower the volume on the game and then raise the volume on the system to get the music volume as high as I wish. Not only is this a pain to do but it also results in a high volume every time I exit The game/all.

    Is there a way to fix this? I took a look in the settings but couldn't find anything, but I'm more than a little tipsy to be honest so yeah, maybe I'm just blind.

    How to get to Activation Screen again on iPhone 11?

    I just got an iPhone 11, and I'm having a ton of issues trying to actually activate it, I'm on Verizon and my previous phone was an Android. First time starting up the iPhone it seems to go through the proper setup stuff: asked for Wi-Fi, transferred data from the Android phone, and then it got to the Activation part. For this it asked me to call a given Verizon number on another phone, so I started dialing that on my old one.

    Here's where things get frustrating: while the number is dialing the iPhone goes from the Activation prompt to setting up the Face ID, with no way to go back. Meanwhile on the Android I get tot he automated menu with Verizon to activate the phone, give the number to activate, select the "Activate Now" option, and I receive a message about how an error occurred and my device cannot be activated. After going through the rest of the setup on the iPhone and getting to the regular menus, I cannot seem to find any way to get back to that Activation screen to see the number and instructions again.

    I eventually tried erasing all data and resetting the phone to go through that setup again, but this time it doesn't show the Activation part at all and just goes straight from transferring data to Face Id. I tried connecting to iTunes to do a factory reset as well, and still it doesn't go through Activation when doing set up. Is there any way to reach this screen again, either during that initial set-up or when using the phone normally? Every help article I find on either Apple's site or Verizon's starts with "From the Activation Screen, do xzy" so I have no idea what to do here

    tl;dr Something seemed to go wrong during initial activation and now I can't get back to the Activation Screen on my phone

    MacOS Catalina Bootcamp Issues

    No matter what I've done, I keep getting "could not mount "BOOTCAMP". (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error -119930876.)"

    I've tried an assortment of third party NTFS mounting tools like Tuxera NTFS, NTFS for Mac, Mounty, and iBoysoft NTFS for Mac.

    I want to be able to mount the bootcamp to change the partition size, but it's not even recognized in disk utility. I'm able to access the bootcamp window side itself. I don't know how to backup the bootcamp either to be honest. Sort of at my rope's ends.

    I have had my MacBook Air for about 3 years now and I believe the hard drive has gone out in it. So, me being cheap and not wanting to go to an Apple Store to get it replaced. I thought I could reach out to the people of this GREAT sub and ask you all what type of hard drive I could get to replace myself? I don't really need a lot of storage, because I have an external. I'm looking forward to hearing your recommendations to fix my computer!

    This has happened to a few games now. When I try to open the game and hit the play button it depresses the play button but nothing happens. Other games work fine, but when I go back to try the Sonic racing game for example nothing happens when I hit play. What gives?

    Limits on Screen Time changing

    Hi all!

    Our son recently got an 7th Gen iPod Touch. We have set it up to have some things be limitless (texting, FaceTime, etc.) some things are limited by downtime but nothing else (Music, podcasts), and others are limited to a time limit throughout the day (games, YouTube, etc.).

    However, the last category, the apps affected keep changing. YouTube, for instance, will become unchecked regularly. I've talked with out son about it and he's adamant that he's not changing anything (and I trust him on this). He doesn't have the pin code to change it anyway. It also happened once during a time period where his device was off and unused for several hours.

    Is there something that might be happening to change this outside of him guessing the pin (which I've changed a couple of times as a test) on his device and making the changes himself? As far as I can tell, you need that pin to change these settings, regardless of the device you're on, but it's also very possible I don't understand how this system works all that well.

    Apple and LG Ultrawide Monitors

    Is it just me or are apple products just not compatible with any LG ultrawide monitor? I tried a 2007 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with my 34" ultrawide and the full resolution is not supported. Black bars appear on either side of the image. I've tried literally everything including SwitchResX, which worked for a year but the latest update of Catalina bricked that too. Now I'm stuck here with a $500 ultrawide monitor that can't even use all the pixels.
