Used to be fine a few weeks ago, but lately I have to manually put it to sleep which I sometimes forget. As far as I'm aware, the energy saver settings are all good setting the computer to sleep after an hour of inactivity. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  | ||
| MacOS Catalina beta system update loop, can't boot into OS anymore Posted: 29 Sep 2019 02:30 AM PDT I have been using the Catalina beta for a while and when coming back to my laptop this morning that I had left on over night I realized it was very hot. Even though I had closed the lid it had started an update and the screen that I was greeted by said there was not enough room to finish installing the os update. I figured I'd just reboot but it keeps booting into wanting to install the update and saying there is not enough space. If I startup by selecting which os I want to boot into I can choose the mac os but it won't boot. It shows the apple logo then turns off the laptop again. I can now only boot into my bootcamp partition. How can I cleanup space on my macos partition to get this install to go through like this? [link] [comments]  | ||

NOTE IVE TRIED BLOCKING THIS PERSON AS A NON CONTACT AND ALSO CREATED THEM AS A CONTACT TO SEE IF THAT WOULD RESOLVE THE ISSUE Things I've tried but hasn't worked: Messages>preferences>iMessage>block>press [+] to add> scroll through contacts and select. But when selecting, it would not apply to my block list. My whole contact list would disappear so I would have to search for the contact again and start over. I even tried through FaceTime but it would not show an option anywhere . I also found while in the conversation, there's an option above called "buddies." It says "block person" but is grayed out. I have a MacBook air Mid-2013 mojave OS Anyways, so when I went out for something else I left my MacBook on - it normally goes to sleep in a minute or so but for some reason it was left on as a YouTube video was playing in the background and so it didn't go to sleep. I was gone for about 20 minutes and i'm just a little paranoid that someone in my flat might've used my macbook when i'm not there. What's the safest way to do this while keeping the library on an external drive? (The ssd on my MBP isn't large enough to accommodate the iPhoto library, so it's on an external). | Screenshotting Software (alternative to Jing) Posted: 28 Sep 2019 08:37 AM PDT While I don't plan to go Catalina beta, I do keep testing the installer to see what stuff is going to die. I see currently on the chopping block for me are Textmate (easily replaced) and Jing. I've used Jing for its entire life and prefer it for its simple yet robust screenshotting software. The folks at Techsmith are NOT going to update it, suggesting folks use SnagIt instead... but that is needlessly complicated and resource-intensive. I'm looking for a good screenshot software... it doesn't need to do video. What are you using for screenshots? What I love about Jing are; opens with crosshairs and immediately I can do a drag window to capture a screenshot, but it intuits windows and dialog boxes so if I mouse over the title bar it will just grab that whole box instead of making me drag-select. Once I've completed the first grab, it goes into a lightweight editor where I can highlight, draw boxes, add arrows or notes to the shot and only after that do I start to get questions about saving. I don't need to create a file, take it to an editor and mock it up further. I'd like something that is as simple, lightweight and fluid. Any free software (or at least reasonably priced) suggestions? Viewing it, and the Safari extensions for 1Password, Better (protection from trackers and behavioral advertising), and Save to Pocket, I see that all except Better note: Webpage contents: I find that deeply troublesome.
