    2017 imac - washed out screen. checked brightness and contrast. does this in diagnostic screen as well, but no issues. likely hardware issue, right?

    Downloading the update works as it normally should; however, when installing the update for the first minute seems normal but after about a minute it boots back up to the login screen. I know for a fact that a 4+GB update takes longer than 1 minute to install, at least it does on my MacBook Pro. No error messages are displayed after the fact. After i log back in I have to re-download the entire update again.

    I've never had this issue before and I've had Catalina installed since WWDC.

    I don't want to do a clean install but if I have to then I will.

    One more thing, in case you need to know what MacBook Pro I have, I have the MacBook Pro 2016 with Touch Bar.

    Any suggestions on what I should do? Does anyone else have this issue?

    Tried screen capture, cannot input sound to Logic X

    Tried to capture video with Command/Shift/4 as well as Command/Shift/5 on a web page. All sound input options in to Logic X through a midi interface have now been nullified. Yes. I have already tried turning the computer on and off. Any suggestions?

    Since I've updated my menu bar on my inactive monitor turns white when I'm in dark mode and night shift doesn't work. I have a MacBookPro15,2. I don't want to reinstall the whole OS and erase my hard drive, are there any fixes you guys might know?

    Is MalwareBytes Premium worth it?

    I got a discount for the license and I was thinking to purchase it but I found some comments at techsupport saying that the free version is enough. As those comments were for the Windows version, I thought to ask MacOS users for advice whether I should upgrade or just stay free and manually scan.

    I have Little Snitch installed as well as KnockKnock(https://objective-see.com/products/knockknock.html), 1Blocker(https://1blocker.com) and Sloth(https://sveinbjorn.org/sloth).

    Is MalwareBytes Premium really necessary for me?

    [Question] Preferred ad blocker for Safari (MacOS & iOS)?

    I used to use AdGuard, but since the whole extension thing, I don't like it as much because it requires an app. I want something that I just set up and it works, without me having to open the app every time I restart my Mac/iPhone.

    2017 Macbook Pro Touchbar Disconnecting from Wifi Constantly

    I have a 2017 Macbook Pro, 15" with Touchbar. I just reformatted and installed a fresh copy of Mojave.

    My wifi disconnects probably 8-14 times a day, which is starting to drive me nuts. It does it while I'm using the computer, on different networks. I've googled and tried the fixes there, all with no help. This happens with our without peripherals connected.

    Can someone please help me try to find a solution? I'm about to go crazy!

    First time on this subreddit so please bear with me here. First off: I am not a user of apple products and I have absolutely no clue what I am talking about. But: My father only uses apple products and has bought a Western Digital My Cloud NAS to store his Time Machine backups. Before that, he was using an external HDD that gave up in the middle of a backup so it was time for an upgrade. Backing up his first time was more of a downgrade than an upgrade. Speeds were incredible slow (I am not talking 802.11ac limitations here, it was more of a "80 GB transferred in 7 hours"-kind of speed) despite my efforts to ensure the best transferring rate over the network.

    Some thoughts of mine:

    1) while searching the internet, I found a thread on apple support. One user with a high karma (or whatever you want to call it) gave a - in my view - completely exaggerated statement about why this is a user fault and that no one should ever use non-apple devices and expect them to work in combination with apple products. Even though I am not an apple customer, I found that comment to be insulting to everyone that is.

    2) I am not expecting the NAS to work 100% perfectly with the MacBook. But with TimeCapsule being unsupported and taken off the market, I am kind of wondering how this should work out

    3) setting to throttle low priority processes is disabled in sysctl

    4) Since I didn't tamper with the "show incompatible devices" setting for time machine, I would expect the software to work with that NAS(?) although it uses the - to my knowledge - unmaintained AFP instead of SMB/FTP

    5) Transferring individual files to the NAS has the expected speeds and works perfectly

    6) At the start of the backup, the peak transfer rate was 40-50 MByte/s, which would work for me. That rate drastically changed after 1 minute or so

    I now spent several hours researching and I don't feel any smarter. If anyone has a working setup or an idea about what's wrong, please let me know.

    If this is not the right subreddit, I'll be happy to move it somewhere else.

    Upgrade hardware or downgrade OS?

    I've upgraded to Mojave (via a clean install) with an older mBPro, please don't ask why. I've realized it's optimized for a SSD and I've got a HDD. Is it possible to swap for a SSD with the SATA connection, or otherwise? If so, is it worth upgrading this pre-mojave macbook to a SSD or should I downgrade to an older OS, pre-"SSD-optimized"? (I've a Lion/snow leopard era mBP)

    Screen tearing on Minecraft

    Hey! so i recently got an iMac, (mid 2011) and i decided to get minecraft on it

    but heres the thing, im experiencing screen tears, and i really dont want to use vSync, as it makes everything laggy

    is there anything i can do about this?

    Spotlight results don't work with their file types

    It's hard for me to explain via text exactly what is happening here. I have users that are using Spotlight as intended, to find stuff and we have had no issues until just the past few weeks. Now when my users on High Sierra search for something on a network share it will find the file, but the file has no association to an application. Historically when they found the file in question with Spotlight and say it was an InDesign file they could just double click on it and it would launch the file in InDesign. Now it's like its file association is broken, if they try and double click on the file it acts like it doesn't know what program to open the file with. It gives an error and an option to fix alias, but no matter what you do with fix alias it just stays broken. My few users I still have on El Capitan do not have this issue and can still Spotlight search for a file and run it right from the search results. I haven't allowed any updates or anything recently to their Macs is there a known this is happening? I tried the Googles, but had a hard time putting the problem into a single sentence to get some results.

    Mac OSX Mojave upgrade - all media playback stops working

    Has any experienced this issue after a Mac OSX Mojave update?

    I am running an early 2013 Macbook Pro 15" Retina and have recently updated to Mojave. Since then, any type of media playback has intermittently stopped working. This includes any video steaming through the browser like youtube, local media including music and video and spotify.

    This will happen randomly for no reason and when it does, it doesn't matter how many times I restart my machine. It will randomly start working again for no reason any time later whether it's 5 minutes later or 1 hour.

    I don't really know where I could speak to Apple about this or what to do. It's pretty frustrating at this point, it seems I have no control as part of the system is fundamentally broken.

    I have tracked this down to Airplay, which wasn't in existence prior to the upgrade as the last OS I was running was El Capitan.

    So whenever I plug in my second monitor (via USB) Airplay starts running and all music or video ceases to work.

    I have not been able to find the solution yet so if anybody has any clue how to resolve this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Is it possible to create a shared volume between two MacOS versions?

    I apologise if this has been asked already, but the only info I could find was for Boot Camp.

    As the title says, is it possible? I want to use a partition to store applications such as Office and be able to use it on both Mojave and Catalina. I know it's obviously possible to use a USB stick but it's a pain to keep track of it, and installing the programs twice doesn't make sense and takes up much needed volume space (I've got three OS's, Mojave, Catalina, and Win10, stored on a 256GB MacBook Pro).

    Any help is appreciated!

    How can I wipe windows 10 without usb drive? PLES HELP!!

    First off sorry if this is the wrong place to post but I got my mac back from a friend since he didnt need it anymore. My mac has windows on boot camp but he changed all of the stuff in windows so it was his account and password. I need to get into windows but I can't get in as he has forgotten the password. Is there a way I can wipe windows 10 on my mac??!!

    I’m having this problem when I try to adjust volume. The sound doesn’t work through headphone jack or internal speakers but it works fine with AirPods. I tried booting in safe mode as well as resetting my NVRAM. Anybody has a solution? MacBook Air 13 Mid-2012 running Mojave 10.14.5
