Found Iphone, how to contact owner? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 07:32 AM PDT I've found an Iphone while on vacation. The battery was dead and there was no sim card inside. I've charged it but couldn't get in as it was password protected so my friend restored it on his iTunes and connected it to wifi. Can't access the phone as I don't know the ID of the owner. The question now is how will the owner be able to contact me or is there any way for me to get his/hers contact details? [link] [comments]
Battery Health: Stop battery capacity going down (the best [proven] way) Posted: 04 Sep 2019 09:59 AM PDT TLDR: Don't use your iPhone when it's at 25% or less battery (Battery health is important since its the battery the one component that starts making the device run slow at ~80% cap or less, so, directly related to device longevity/obsolescence, hence (also); resale value) — Thought I should share this: So, I did a lot of research (main source credit goes to Battery University), and/so yeah, this is a scientific/quantified/statistical-based recommendation. We all know battery capacity goes down and never goes up again. We all want the best practices for battery health i.e keep its capacity as new (100% at iPhones settings - battery health section). Loosing battery cap over time is "usual" only if you don't know the best practices for battery health, and even so; how much capacity should you lose a month for example? (in general terms) Got an iPhone X on November 2017. My battery capacity went down from 100% to %89 in 10 months (more than 1pp per month, aha).. which I didn't like, so I started this research. At the same time, I took advantage of Apple's battery discount program (ended December 2018) and changed my battery for a new one, so the following findings where tested just after my clean new battery was installed i.e restarted at 100% capacity Punch line: After changing battery and applying my research, I have now ~10 months with my new battery and it's still at 100%. Yes, and, I can't think of any reason for it to start going down (but it has to at some point, even a bit, dramatically slowly) — Conclusions/Best practices:
Logic: using/demanding the battery with "low juice" is the worst you can do to it, it's where it struggles the most and takes damage for life. It's like going to the gym with 1hr sleep. You can do it, but you might get some permanent damage if this is the standard practice. — Considerations: this following has been MY exact usage during this 10 months using "new" practices
— Now, of course you'll use it with less than 25% battery on emergencies i.e occasionally, but 99% of my days I manage to accomplish that rule, and after 10 months, battery is still 100%. Of course Apple can't teach this "magic" trick, .. it would sort of mean 1/4 of your battery is un-usable; which is not good for marketing, and is also not entirely true.. but it has consequences (which are the same in any smartphone, not just Apple's). Also, 25% threshold behaves proportionally, meaning using you iPhone with 1-5% is WAY WORSE than using it with 20-25%. But yes; bad consequences start at 25%. The only way to re-gain your cap is buying a new battery. But at least with your actual one, this tip will practically make it "stop" losing any more cap. Mine is literally 100%, not 99 or 98; its clean 100% after 10 months. Hope many people find this helpful! took me a while, and it's proved cause-effect tip/practice, so I feel confident. On my old battery I definitely used it A LOT on 1-5% remaining battery charge. [link] [comments]

Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:15 PM PDT I feel like my best move is to trade it in next week for an Xr instead of an 11. Has anything been leaked/discovered that should change my mind? [link] [comments]
iPhone XS Case - Need one that protects the camera Posted: 05 Sep 2019 06:10 AM PDT Don't know how much shattered the sapphire glass that covers the camera lens. The camera works as usual but it make the phone look ugly. Have tried camera protective lens cover but the glue make the camera image blurry. Does anyone know if phone cases exist for the Xs that cover the camera area. [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Sep 2019 12:28 AM PDT $5 on the line with my friend. iPhone 14 and beyond is a silly name. We're debating which naming convention makes most sense holistically (marketing, what people actually say [eg. ten vs ex], aftermarket resell naming, etc.). The choices are between these two naming convention changes, which is best? Moving forward iPhones are named by year eg. iPhone 2019, iPhone 2020, iPhone 2021, iPhone 2022, iPhone 2023, iPhone 2024, iPhone 2025, iPhone 2026... Or Moving forward iPhone numbers are reset now that we reached XS (and will reset once XS is reached again, that's a 12-16 year gap between repeated names) eg. iPhone, iPhone 1S, iPhone 2, iPhone 2S, iPhone 3, iPhone 3S, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S... Question about a locked iPhone 7. Posted: 04 Sep 2019 10:16 PM PDT One of my friends left his phone in the Airbnb we rented for a weekend of music. He departed prior to the conclusion of the weekend and left his phone. Before we realized it was in the couch he had already filed a claim and got insurance to cover it and mail him a replacement. Now I have a brand new iPhone 7 along with a 6 that just shit the bed. Do I have any ability to possibly use this phone. Or does it technically belong to the insurance company? [link] [comments]
Thinking about downgrading to the iPhone 8 Plus from the X Posted: 04 Sep 2019 03:19 PM PDT I seriously was thinking about downgrading to the 8 Plus from my iPhone X because of the issues I have been having. I realize that the XS is better, and I am going to wait out to see how the 11 is. If these are lackluster, back to the 8+ I go. It was seriously the best phone I have ever owned, and I should have never left it. Battery life was amazing, and everything about that phone was just plain rock solid. It just worked! There has been many times where my iPhone X has left me stranded. Literally. We have an app to ride buses, and trains in Phoenix, buy your pass on there with Apple Pay, and it loads right on the screen on your phone. It is a great way to get that 2% cash back on Apple Card when just doing something as menial as riding the bus. I was trying to load my bus/train pass on the iPhone X, and the whole entire phone froze up. Thankfully, everything came back after a hard reboot, but holding side buttons plus power button did nothing, up button, then down button then power button didn't do anything, etc. I literally had to just wait it out, and the phone eventually "caught up" It was seriously a weird situation. I gotten it to work before the train guys came around to check for passes, otherwise I would have gotten a $50-$500 ticket. Another time, I was driving, navigating to a brand new client, and I got a temperature warning, the phone shut down, I am somewhere where I have never been before, so I don't know the area, no way to contact the client to let them know "I'm Lost". Also, the car has AC (though it is Arizona), so there was no reason to have a temperature warning. I went to the Apple Store, and go figure, they found nothing wrong with the phone. This never happened again. Of course, it only has to happen once to screw up your day. I have learned to start carrying my iPad in the car, for backup navigation however. Yet another time, Face ID would just refuse to authenticate my Apple Pay. Like, it didn't even give me the option to, it just froze up on the "Face ID" thing, so no option to type in the passcode either. I had to reboot the phone, but I just paid for my stuff with a regular card at this point. This stuff never happened on my 8+. I miss my 8+. I may go back to it, if the 11 looks lackluster. We will see on Sept 10. Don't tell me, oh I should "buy a regular bus pass" or "use a paper map" because I never had to do any of these with the 8 Plus, 7 Plus, or 6s Plus. I shouldn't have to with my X either. [link] [comments]
Is there a good way to limit data usage on iPhones? Posted: 04 Sep 2019 08:45 PM PDT I've been using Android for 10 years and would like to switch to an iPhone, for all the usual reasons. The problem is, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to data usage (I don't have an unlimited data plan). The Twitter app I use on Android (Talon) lets you block not only images, but also avatars (the little picture next to the username on every tweet). To my knowledge, no iOS Twitter app lets you hide avatars. With Android, there are plenty of browsers that will block images from loading. On iOS, Firefox is the only one I'm aware of where that's an option. The Wikipedia app for Android has an option to block images, whereas the iOS version doesn't. (The Android version also has tabs, unlike the iOS version.) For these reasons, it appears I'm stuck with Android until I switch to an unlimited data plan. [link] [comments] |
