Any ideas why my iPhone Calendar has a square around the date while my boyfriend’s has a circle? (I’ve had multiple iPhones with the square so I don’t think it’s the model of my phone- he has iPhone Xs and l have the Max)

So should we be worried about the iPhone malware ?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:29 PM PDT

So I know that Apple has patched it but what shocked me was that the reports said just VISITING a website can automatically infect your device with malware.

I'm not a computer engineer or anything but for as long as I've known about viruses and malware, it's generally accepted that the victim has to take some action like download an exe file (dmg for Mac etc) and actively install the malware.

Now they're saying that simply visiting a compromised website can infect your device without you knowing it.

That's crazy - aside from updates, what else can we do to protect ourselves?

Would using a different browser aside from safari help (like brave)?

lost iphone after 1 day of purchasing it!

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:06 PM PDT

i just purchased a brand new iphone XR yesterday and then lost it today at the beach :(, i tried adding an applecare theft + loss plan to my phone but it seems that they have to send a text/email to do diagnostics on the phone before letting you purchase it.

is there anything i can do? :(

Finally! Found a fix for stutters/frame drop on XS

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 01:01 PM PDT

Go to Accessibility settings> zoom> turn off follow focus. This seems to significantly improve scroll performance and eliminate the occasional frame drops/stutters on home screen.

Tested it on 4 Xs Maxes and my iPad Pro 10.5 and it seems to fix the stutters!

[question] how does every new iPhone produced well before the GM release of the newest software (ex iPhone 11 with 13.0) have the latest version at launch?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:28 PM PDT

I don't even know what to search on Google but I started wondering. If they start production in late July or August...and the GM usually isn't out until 2-3 weeks before the announcement, how do all the new phones have the latest version?

It can't be a remote update because then the phone would have to be on... So do they just wait?

    Password Managers

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 03:06 PM PDT

Do you guys have a password manager? I´m feeling in a need to do that, because now i have random generated passwords, and it´s impossible to remember 16 digits aleatory with special characters and all that things.

Can someone tell a good free one?

    Thanks :)

    Back to iPhone.

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 09:10 PM PDT

Gave the Note 10+ a try for about 2 weeks and while that phone is absolutely incredible it still lacks in two key areas that always makes me keep coming back to iPhone.

    App optimization Apple ecosystem integration

I've ran into a few Android apps that are simply missing features and/or don't run as smoothly as the iOS version.

Also, I love and miss my Apple Watch and how my content natively exists between my iPhone, MacBook, Apple TV and Apple Watch. Calls, messages, cloud based clip board, AirDrop, photos, files, etc...

It was fun trying out the Note 10+. Incredible phone, but for me, its biggest Achilles heel is that it runs Android and has to face those inherent optimization drawbacks and the lack of an ecosystem that can match Apple's.

    Old model price drop

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:47 PM PDT

    Hello!

Just curious if anyone knows roughly when the old models of phone will drop in price? My wife and I are looking to upgrade this year and get XS's, but obviously want to wait now til the event.

So my question becomes does the price of the older models usually drop right after the event (in this case, after they do the announcement 9/10), or not until the new phone(s) actually come out (likely 9/20)? I've never paid attention to the dates in the past because I've always been getting the brand new one when it comes out.

    Thanks!

What is the best way to clean sound port holes on Iphone 6S?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 08:21 PM PDT

Hey y'all, so when I play sound from my phone it's significantly quieter than others iPhones. I know it's from pocket lint over the years gathering up. I use a paper clip unfolded to get into the the sound ports and try and clear it out. After doing that for so long nothing comes out, and now all the lint is smashed in the 5 of the ports. Is there something I can do to get the lint out?

Any Wireless Keyboard with Built In Mousepad for iPhone?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 11:41 PM PDT

The Android world has a lot of wireless keyboards with mousepads that can be used by running your finger over a scrollpad. Does the iPhone have anything similar with the mousepad built into the keyboard?

The main application for this will be messenger applications on the iPhone, such as WhatsApp and Telegram and Instagram.

How serious really are the modem issues on XR/XS

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 05:12 PM PDT

So I have a 6s that I bought right after the 7 came out (because I'm cheap and didn't need the top of the line). Have had it of course right at 3 years now. Been very happy with it, outlasted/outperformed my 5s by a wide margin. Battery & charging port are showing age pretty well and looking to upgrade, probably to a XS but possibly XR

Which brings me to my question. I live in a rural area, everyone uses Verizon as they have the most reliable coverage but even so I am routinely in places for work that have marginal/no service with my 6s.

How widespread are the signal/connectivity issues on the XS? My plan was to pick up a XS after the 11 gets released but reading about the issues people are having with the intel modem equipped models has me wondering. Most of the threads I see about it are from quite a while ago... is it still an issue or should I not be worried? If it is an issue what would be the best choice for a newer device?

TL;DR are the modem issues on the XS still a concern or should I just buy one

Gaming Smartphone iPhone 11 Pro Max?

    Posted: 31 Aug 2019 07:14 PM PDT

    Hi,

how lively do you think the new iPhones 11 Pro Max (or whatever it may be called) is optimized for gaming? Because Apple Arcade (probably released later this year) is a gaming service.

I'll mention a few points that are important to me about a gaming smartphone. And you?

    • constant performance (fps) and maximum graphics quality during long gaming sessions until the battery runs out + the display brightness should not be dimmed down automatically even at maximum
    • very large battery capacity for long battery life
    • iOS system must be stable and run smoothly
    • the device must not get too warm because it is uncomfortable to hold and the probability is high that the quality will suffer during the game (frame drops, random bugs = crash)
    • more RAM so that the games and apps don't have to be reloaded and can start faster
