How my first Apple Watch allowed me to say bye to my dad

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 07:51 PM PDT

Hey guys, not a traditional post on here but this is my first time and I really wanted to share my story about my Apple Watch. I figured this would be a good place.

About two months ago I decided to get a Series 4. It's my first Apple Watch and somewhat a spur of the moment decision but I was so excited when I got it. I'm the youngest of three and my two older brothers and parents were busting my balls when I kept trying to show it off to them. Anyways, after messing around with it for a little I got home from work and told my dad about the new ECG feature. Having some minor heart issues, he was intrigued and really wanted to test it out. So I put the watch on and ran the ECG app for him. It showed he had a Sinus Rhythm and he was thrilled. He was told by his doctor just recently that he would need valve replacement surgery within the next six months but it was nothing to worry about and a relatively standard procedure. Nonetheless, he was happy with what the watch recorded (even though I told him that it's just a smart watch and not as accurate as a real ECG).

Saturday rolls around and we spend the morning cutting the grass. Around noon I say bye to my dad and head over to my girlfriends house to hang by her pool. I of course show off my new watch and get some eye rolling from her. A few hours go by and we get some more drinks and head back in the pool, watch on my wrist really wanting to test out the waterproofness. As soon as I get in a get in the pool I feel my wrist buzz and it's my mom calling, probably just wanting to check in as she always does. I quickly hop of the pool and answer on my phone (which is always on silent). I can barely understand what she's saying, all I can make out is that she's crying and saying somethings wrong with dad the paramedics are here and you need to meet us at the hospital.

After rushing to the hospital with my girlfriend I meet my brother in the emergency room lobby who tells me my dad has just passed away. My dad was cleaning the pool when all of a sudden his heart just stopped and he collapsed. Just like that he was gone.

Almost every day I think about what would have happened if I decided not to buy this watch, or not bring it in the pool that day. I know I wouldn't have checked my phone until I got out of the pool therefore missing my mom's call. Because of this incredible piece of technology I was able to be there for my mom and brothers during the toughest moment our of lives. I don't know if this sounds ridiculous but I just wanted to share with you guys how grateful I am that I bought one of these things.

Thank you for reading, and be sure to tell those special people in your lives that you love them.

Watch OS 6.1 is the Watch OS that the GM should have been

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:25 AM PDT

Watch os 6 GM has been really rough for myself, as well as several others. My Series 5 has significantly better battery, there aren't frame rate drops all the time, and it feels like a finished product. Go Apple, this is a great Beta, let's get those faces back though!!

Apple Watch Series 5, 44mm battery comparison. Top is with Always On turned off the whole day, bottom is with Always On turned on the whole day. There is no difference, so the battery problem should be a watchOS 6 issue.

    Apple watch S5 Infograph face

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 06:55 AM PDT

I have been rocking the S4 with an Infograph face I have put a lot if effort to personalise to perfection. The other day I hit my watch on a locker at my gym and got a pretty deep scratch which is just killing me every time I check my watch. It's so bad I am considering returning this to the authorised reseller for a fraction of the price (they only offer me about 35% due to the scratch) and getting the S5. Has anyone seen a video of how the Infograph face looks on the S5 with the always on display? I have not seen it tried out anywhere, which is strange considering it is arguably the most used watch face. It is almost as if it is missing from the 5th gen.

If it matters to anyone, I preordered my series 5 watch the second I could through AT&T with a Oct 7-14 window. Just got an email this morning saying it’s arriving tomorrow.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:46 AM PDT

I am beyond excited. Going from an aluminum, 38mm series zero to a SS, 44mm series 5.

Zero change on my order page for several days. The shipping confirmation I got this morning was a complete surprise.

Hermès black band color is identical to the standard black sport band ?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 03:34 AM PDT

Thinking about to keep my s4 hermes leatherband (which I didn‘t use often) to pair it with my ceramic s5 for special events. What do you guys think?

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:26 PM PDT

The moment you discover your watch face and keyboard color match is on point.

Does your watch color match your phone color?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 04:22 AM PDT

My phone is Space Gray but I'm not sure if I should get Ceramic, Silver, or Gray. Silver seems to blend better with clothes but do you match your phone?

I currently have an Apple Watch series 3 and I am very happy with it. Now I'm thinking about maybe upgrading to a series 5. Do you guys think it's worth it or not? Thanks!

Using Apple Watch in a sauna.

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 03:56 AM PDT

I took my Apple Watch s4 to a sauna today. I thought it would be good to monitor my heart rate and use the timer and so on. It turned off after 10 minutes and wouldn't turn back on. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Any pictures of an SB Titanium watch with SS Apple link bracelet?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:34 AM PDT

I'm looking for pictures from an Apple Watch S5 SB Titanium with SB link bracelet. I wonder if the two finishes match together or if the polished sides of the bracelet crash together with the matte finish of the titanium case. Thanks in advance for any photos of your watch!

What does it look/sound like to a 911 dispatcher when he/she receives a call from Apple Watch?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 12:17 AM PDT

Just out of interest. Is there a prerecorded message played? What does it say? How are the coordinates transmitted? How does it work in other countries?

    There’s this new RSS app....

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 09:18 PM PDT

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/watch-feeds/id1480741074

    Hey Guys,

Not the developer of this app just noticed it popped up on the Watch Appstore today.

Its called Watch Feeds. It basically lets you read full RSS articles over LTE and Wifi. No phone needed near by. Its supports images, full articles, feedbin and all that good stuff. I personally love it.

Huge drain on Series 4 even after unpair, repair etc.

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 10:46 PM PDT

    Hi,

My S4 is draining a lot on WatchOS 6, even after unpairing, repairing and setting it up as a new watch and also disabling the noise app.

This morning, after 1 hour of standby and 5 minutes of using the "Breathe" app, I was already down to 90%. Anyone experiencing the same?

    Many thanks

Calendar compilation shows “no events today”

    Posted: 24 Sep 2019 09:09 PM PDT

My Apple Watch S2 works pretty well, but the with the new S5 the calendar complication always shows "no events today" despite when I click the calendar on the watch it shows plenty there.

Tried reset the data, fiddle with all the calendar settings, restart watch and phone, unpair and pair again with and without using backup.

This is super annoying, anyone else has similar issues or have solutions that I may not have tried?

"Always on" screen blurs out app UIs?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:53 AM PDT

So I upgraded to the series 5 watch primarily because I want to use Strava while I'm running or cycling, and be able to glance down and see my pace/distance/etc quickly without having to shake my arm around like an idiot. I didn't find out until after buying it that the "always on" part only really applies to the home screen. If you're running an app when the watch goes dark, it blurs out the screen from the app and just superimposes the current time. You still have to hold your arm up or touch the screen to see all that other data.

I dug around in privacy settings etc and didn't see any option to disable that, so I think it's just how things work. Does anybody know if there's an API app developers can use to keep their app active during the low refresh rate mode? Maybe a future Strava update could enable that?

Looks like Apple's Workouts app keeps the screen active (at full brightness and probably full refresh rate) the whole time it's running, so I might just use that for the time being, but I'm guessing that kills battery life.

My S4 has the slightest bit of choppiness when opening and closing the app screen on OS6, just me?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2019 07:41 AM PDT

If you go into clock face and hit the dial for the app screen, it is noticeably choppy. Can't say i'm too happy about this on my S4. On watchOS 5 it was super smooth. Not on watchOS 6.

    Just my watch?

Looking for a workout app, doesn’t have to be free but no in-app purchases preferred

I am mostly doing strength training and fast outdoor walks. Can anyone recommend some detailed, statistically oriented workout app?
