    Fun iPhone Fact

Additional app options in settings could open up so many more possibilities, and could make iOS feel much less restrictive - without compromising intuitiveness. Here's what it could look like. [OC]

Will the XR successor launch in October like last year?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:03 AM PDT

Last year the delay was allegedly due to supply issues but turned out you could walk in and buy them day 1 unless you wanted a rare color/capacity combo. I get for phones that aren't too different you ship the higher margin one first to maximize profits, but do you think this will be the case again? Haven't heard any rumors starting either way.

    Wishlist on the upcoming iPhones

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 09:58 PM PDT

Well, we now have like 10 days till the new iPhones besides other product updates.

Lots of things like design and key features leaked, but I still have the final wishlist that hasn't been confirmed yet.

    1. Face ID The new iPhones will have the updated Face ID, which now has wider angle with horizontal recognition. That's great since users don't need to pick up to authenticate. However, let's talk about speed itself. I think Apple will call this as 2nd generation, so I want the speed to be improved as well. Even though iOS 13 makes Face ID super rapid, but comparing to Touch ID (2nd generation), it has rooms for improvements.
    2. EAP mentioned Face ID Gen.2 will be faster as Touch ID Gen.2 before, but I am not sure since the rumor is from his exclusive source.

    3. Wireless Battery Share It is almost confirmed that the new iPhones will be able to charge devices wirelessly, such as AirPods or other Qi-certified devices. Then what about Apple Watch? I was expecting AirPower to be released for a year since it can charge Apple Watch wirelessly without the borders, but the result is canceled. Even though Apple Watch charger is compact, it is annoying to take the charger outside and expensive to get another one. If AirPods can be charged with iPhone, then why not Apple Watch? Last but not least, please bring the AirPower charging interface. It's really awesome to look and easy to identify the percentage.

    4. Performance Some reports say A13 will be ultra beast, making other CPU manufacturers suffer to follow the new chip. CPU Multi-core, GPU, and the AI performance will be boosted a lot, and here comes the new co-processor called Matrix, handling with complicated calculation. It's satisfying to hear that the performance is improved, but I want to talk about multitasking. When it comes to that, I think the RAM itself is the most important key. iPhones refresh a lot when multitasking, compared to other Android devices which have 8-12GB of RAM. The successor of iPhone XR will have 4GB RAM according to rumors, what about the iPhone XS successor? If we have 6GB RAM, then multitasking will be a beast along with performance.

    5. Charging Having Lightning port on this year iPhones is almost confirmed, which means we don't expect USB-C happening until 2020, sadly. However, some sources say 18W USB-C Adapter with USB-C to Lightning cable is included in the box, enabling fast charging as default. The problem is, the battery size will be increased as well, and we need more power to charge much faster compared to 18W. Also, Wireless charging on iPhones isn't that fast since the max output is 7.5W. I hope we can have much faster charging speed on this year iPhones.

I don't think all of my wishlist will be happening, but why not some of them? The naming itself will have "Pro" and the invitation has "innovation" written, so I don't think my wishlist is useless. We'll get to know what Apple has achieved since the previous iPhones in 10 days. Thanks for reading!

How likely is the next iPhone to have a fingerprint sensor?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:17 AM PDT

I have my iPhone X since its launch and for me it's perfect except the fact that it doesn't have Touch ID. Touch ID is all I need for an upgrade. Do the current leaks light some hope for having a fingerprint sensor?

    Thanks ahead.

Are magnetic cases safe for iPhone XR?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 11:30 AM PDT

I got my iPhone XR just over a months ago and got a folding case that has a magnetic latch. Although I have a screen protector, I like that the case can cover the screen to keep it safe when it's in my bag. And when I put the phone on my desk, I can fold the case back to cover the camera lens to keep it safe from scratching. The magnet is only on the side. The magnet not very powerful, although you can feel it pulling the latch strap when the strap is about 1.7cm away.

However, this article on the Apple website says they don't recommend the use of magnetic cases. The article is a bit oddly worded. First, it says they don't recommend use strong magnets. But they then they say that case makers should not use magnets at all.

Googling around, I see that people have had concerns about magnetic cases since the iPhone 6 days, but the general consensus is that they are safe. Any thoughts?

I've tried looking for folding cases that don't have magnets, but have not been able to find any.

Apple Upgrade Program - switching carriers.

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 08:11 PM PDT

Am I able to switch carriers at any point? The terms and conditions state that, and yet when I tried to switch from AT&T to Verizon, the Apple tech informed me I could not because the AT&T version cannot work on Verizon and they would not exchange phones.

I haven't been able to get a concrete answer. Multiple people online state they're gotten photos exchanged because Apple specifically says you can switch at any time, and yet that employee said it's not possible.

So can we switch carriers at any time, or do they mean only if it's certain carriers?

Generic “bricks”, Apple iPad “bricks”, etc, do these harm the iPhone battery to use?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2019 03:23 PM PDT

I have the larger iPad charger that I sometimes use for my phone and I also have various other USB outlet bricks from other electronics that I sometimes use. Am I damaging my battery by doing so and not using the official Apple iPhone charger brick?
