Five NEW, PAID and OFFLINE RPG-ish recommendations.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 02:08 AM PDT

    Hello,
I usually come here looking for recommendations, especially for rpgs. But usually I'm pointed out to old [but gold] stuff as Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, Transistor, Bastion, etc... Everything old. So, today I decided to make a small post recommending some new games. All of them are from 2018 or 2019. All of them are premium [paid] experiences, and within the rpg family. I've played them between 1 to 3 hours.
    Let's go:

    • Battle Chasers Nightwar [Western turn based rpg/ $9.99 ] Port of a PS4/Switch/PC game and based on a 1999 unfinished comic, this game is a typical jrpg in a medieval steampunk-ish set. The story is very light, but the combat is interesting and the design is pretty cool. If you want to have some background on the game you can read the 9 numbers of the comic, but even without that it's possible to enjoy the story. From the ING review:

Battle Chasers: Nightwars' combat and activity-dense world scratch the JRPG itch, even if the storytelling and character development leave a fair bit to be desired. Its attractive dungeons and outdoor regions are fun to get lost in, and there are just enough hidden treasures to claim to make exploration rewarding in a more than visual capacity. I'd be very pleased to see more turn-based indie RPGs along the same lines as Nightwar in the future - and the ending heavily suggests this won't be the last we see of this universe in RPG form.

    • Devil Stone [Jrpg/ $3.99 ] Another turn based rpg, this too with beautiful designs but more on the japanese side. The story is a little bit less cliche than your usual "Save the world" thing:

The story is about Phicus Sera, the successor to the throne of the Underworld of the tenth generation, being sent to human territories after being deprived of his power by the old Devil King.

To find the fragments of Devil Stone, scattered all over the continent, regain power, and succeed the throne in the Underworld, Phicus encountered Eiji John Austin, the Champion of the 19th generation, and joined Eiji's team to adventure into the Underworld.

Is not a difficult game, but if you don't have anything to play, the story is interesting enough to keep you going.

    • Dungeon Princess [Casual Jrpg/$0.99 Offers In-App Purchases] In this game, the "heroes" are playing an mmorpg [FGO anyone?], and "The first party who clears the final stage of the Dungeon will be rewarded with fantastic prizes and a female player in this party shall henceforth be named 'Princess' who will obtain extravagant privileges. "
The gameplay consist in active time battles, you can choose among some actions that costs some stamina. This stamina loads in some seconds, so, for example, you can choose to use 1 stamina and have a "normal" attack or wait and use 4 stamina and have a special technique. The fights [usually 3 or 4 rounds of enemies] lasts less than 1 minute and a half, and finishing the raids give you some equipment for you to upgrade. There's no free roam [click here to enter the dungeon, click here to enter the store], the characters are you typical anime harem and the story is pretty light, but is perfect for super short bursts of time [5 mins or less.] I play this a lot.
Ps- I didn't check the in-app purchases, but so far I didn't need them.

    • Hyper Light Drifter [Sci fi 2d Action Rpg a la Zelda/ MFI support /$4.99 ] Another PC/PS4/Switch port, "Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Explore a beautiful, vast and ruined world riddled with dangers and lost technologies. " In short, a modern SNES' "Zelda" game, but set in a dystopian time and with frenetic battles. Very cool.

    • ThirdMiracle [Turn-Based SRPG/$1.99] A korean "Fire Emblem" game. Anime troops with cool designs fight a war. The animations are neat and the gameplay is kinda fast, but it gets difficult. The story seems interesting even if there are some weird translations. Also, it's the only game of the list that is not iphone X screen ready.

And that's all, I hope this helps someone who, like me, was looking for new stuff to play.

    Enjoy!

    Any good non-roguelike dungeon crawlers?

I'm looking for a game where you don't lose all your progress when you die, one where you can go back to town, fully heal, and go back in. And if you do die, you can be revived with little penalty, load a save, or something else where I don't lose all my progress. I'd also prefer something turn-based.

    Thanks.

Looking for a slow motion shooting game.

Can't remember the name, it's a shooting game where time slows down when you stop moving (like Super Hot), the game takes place in Russia and you can also play multiplayer and race against other players.

Looking for game I used to play

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 04:17 AM PDT

There was this game that was turn based and had multiple units that you could move in order to attack and what not

there were sometimes hero units that had to survive during the level

it was a tile based game

I think I remember a kinda of medieval type setting cause one of the heroes were a sort of knight

    it had a story

If anyone could help me find the game that would be great

P.S. I tried searching my app store purchase history but couldn't find it

    Apple store game question

    Posted: 03 Aug 2019 03:16 PM PDT

Was playing a two player game with my 5 year old while killing time at an apple store today. Was on an iPad. Reminded me of space invaders. You spin your ship around in circles to shoot and destroy enemies. Any idea what it is? My kid loved it and I can't find it!
