Apple Music looks like its down

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 06:43 PM PDT

I'm experiencing issues playing natively on Apple TV, and Airplaying from iPhone.

Users around in Twitter are reporting the same. Apple isn't reporting any outage: https://twitter.com/applesupport/status/1159640822054313987?s=21

Apple acknowledges the issue, includes Apple TV (the service), Apple Books, Radio, Beats 1:

More Apple Cards are being issued - if you missed the first run and you're still interested, yours might be available now!

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 07:01 AM PDT

I missed the first batch, but looks like Apple is rolling out another wave of available Apple Cards. Just got approved and waiting on that sweet titanium!

EDIT: Looks like it's still not available for everyone, so scope is limited. They might be rolling this out incrementally to prevent overwhelming Goldman Sachs. Most people reporting that they didn't receive notifications, and there are still a number of bugs in the confirmation process.

EDIT 2: Looks like emails are rolling out for this batch of early invites. It's likely that if you don't receive this email soon your invite isn't currently available.

Apple Phones should allow us to listen to our own music/podcasts when put on hold

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 09:41 AM PDT

Not sure how many of you have that experience of listening to bad/cheesy/poor quality hold music, but it's definitely one of the least fun experiences with using a phone.

It would be handy if Apple created software that allowed you to listen to your own music or podcasts while on hold (or on silence), only to move you back to the phone line when a human voice is heard. Just a shower thought I had today.

The iPhone SE is annoyingly good

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 05:45 AM PDT

Man this phone... I've had it since launch in 2016, it's on its second battery and it's still chugging along. Still fairly speedy . I'm hanging to upgrade but I just can't justify it. Anyone else feeling conflicted about updating? Just want something new but ol' reliable and I have been through so much .

Minor quibble with Apply Card: Unlike other credit cards, Apple Card will only link to a single iPhone

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:20 PM PDT

...or rather, it will only link to a single iCloud login.

I received my invite from Apple and -- not giving it too much thought -- followed through on it with the email address connected to my work phone (I have a separate Apple ID on my personal phone).

Later I attempted to add the card to my personal phone (which is really where I'd prefer to have it) and found no pathway to doing so. It's worth mentioning here that other credit cards have no problem being connected to Apple Pay on more than one phone simultaneously.

I chatted with Apple about this, and they told me that I would need to *cancel* my first credit card and reapply for the Apple card under my personal email address. Thus inducing a second hard pull on my credit history. This was the only solution they could come up with.

SO -- if you ever have to abandon your icloud account for whatever reason, please know that you will be abandoing your Apple Card account too with no chance to connect it to another one. As many different bullet points may exist in the "pro's" column for this card, know that this is a pretty significant one in the "cons" column.

Does anyone else actually like the notch?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 05:07 AM PDT

Ever since the launch of the X model, people have been discussing the notch and calling it all sorts of names, from hideous to annoying. I reserved my judgement before experiencing it on a daily basis.

However, ever since I got my XS, I am more and more fond of the solution. Given the fact that under-screen cameras aren't a thing yet, I think this is the ultimate solution in terms of sensor housing. Why? IMO, because it keeps the usable part of the screen "clean".

I've used various phones with teardrop notches and even had some time with a friend's Galaxy S10, but it didn't make that really big a difference for me. I just love the fact that the time and other icons on the X and XS are tucked where they are because they are (at least according to me) more visible and don't interfere with the content I'm viewing.

What are your thoughts on this? Did the notch grow on you? Did you hate it at first? I would love to hear what you think.

What do we know so far on Apple's VR/AR progress?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 02:29 PM PDT

Is there anything coming from Apple?

Facebook did great with Quest. PS5 is expected with 2nd gen PSVR. Valve released 120FPS Index. WindowsMR headsets get constantly improved, especially by Samsung. Also all-in-one Quest-like Samsung expected.

It was in the news that Apple proceeds with hiring new people and submitting patents. There were some announcements years ago suggesting there might be something released by the end of 2019. Is there anything going that way?

Why aren't there any articles covering the workplaces at Apple Campus 2?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 04:40 AM PDT

Most major corporations make a point of bragging about their new and cool workplaces for their employees. Google is famous for hundreds of presentations, tours, YouTube videos, TV spots, articles etc showing how cool the Google workplace (the various headquarter's office spaces). Microsoft has the same thing (I just recently watched a very detailed tour covering Microsoft's new "future of workplace design", with in-depth presentation of offices, public areas, conference rooms etc.

So why are there no videos, articles, blog posts, YouTube videos etc showing the same things from Apple's very famous Campus 2 (also known as The Spaceship)? They have a "visitor centre" that is basically a small pavilion outside the actual building, and there's lots of videos from that. But I can't find any information regarding the actual workspaces inside the "spaceship".

Anyone know where I can find this? For example:

    • How is the workspace solutions? Team-based landscapes, individual offices or large open landscapes with free seating?

    • How are the conference rooms? Any new system there to make meetings more efficient?

    • Are the employees happy working there?

    • How are management seated compared to the workers?

Little specks on the inside of AirPods case.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 06:00 AM PDT

    Anyone else experiencing these too?

They seem embedded in the soft inner plastic of the lid (surfaces that don't touch the AirPods) and won't go away with alcohol or anything else I try.

(Purely cosmetic issue, just a bit annoying)
