Question about Photos in Mojave.... New to macOS Posted: 16 Jun 2019 06:29 PM PDT So I have successfully imported my huge file from Google TakeOut into the Photos app... now those photos are in my iCloud now correct? So I should be able to delete that huge file now that they are backed up in the iCloud now right? Its taking about about 30GBs of space on my Macs hard drive that I need and want to make sure if I delete the file will they delete from the iCloud too? /head-scratcher [link] [comments]

Finder slow with Chinese-language folder names? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 08:35 PM PDT I've found that Finder (Sierra) becomes really slow when folder names or file names contain any Chinese language. Using 10.12.6, and usually in column view. When a folder has over 10 sub-folders or files whose name contains Chinese characters, Finder slows to a crawl listing the files. (really slow, sometimes half a minute to list a 100-file folder) Anyone else have experience with this? Others on different major versions of OSX not seeing this? [link] [comments]
Equalizer / equaliser for macOS Posted: 17 Jun 2019 01:10 AM PDT I'm looking for a sound equalizer on the system level. Preferably FOSS (free and open source software). Any experiences or suggestions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 03:21 PM PDT Hi guys! In BTRFS (Linux), I can take snapshots for any volume I want and keep it indefinitely. In macOS, AFAIK, there is only the tool Question: Is it all we have to work with snapshots in APFS? Is there a way to keep a snapshot indefinitely? [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 Jun 2019 03:15 PM PDT Hello guys! As the title said my iCloud storage does not refresh.. I only had 700mb left off my 50GB and most of it was taken up by documents from my MacBook. So I moved a lot of the documents out of the iCloud but the space isn't refreshing... I can't access the files via the files app so in theory I should get my space back. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 Jun 2019 09:56 AM PDT This works very well when you have two windows open side-by-side. I have a high resolution monitor that allows me to place two windows (for me, this usually means a code editor and a browser window) on the same screen. Often times, I navigate between the two, and I've found having to click each window to enable scrolling on that window quite annoying. While it might sound trivial, it can get annoying when you are referencing both windows quite a bit. Today I found out that if I hold down the Command key and then click both windows, each of them become active at the same time. Now, whenever I place my cursor over one of the windows, I can immediately scroll without having to click that window to enable its focus. It saves me those extra clicks, which has really enhanced my experience so far. [link] [comments]

Running ClamXAV in the background? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 04:12 PM PDT Malwarebytes found a few things on my MBPro last night (first time, ever), and I want to do a full scan of all drives with ClamXAV. But this seems like it is going to take hours. Can I let the thing run in the background? Or shall I set it to run overnight and come back to it in the morning? [link] [comments]

Again About File Format Conversion Posted: 16 Jun 2019 02:58 PM PDT If I ever wanted to do a file format conversion, whether it's of an image, for example, JPG to PNG, or of an audio file, like from M4A to MP3. What I would do is simply right click on the file to change its name and then write, MP3 in place of M4A, for instance. But I feel like there's a more appropriate way you're supposed to do it than just simply dive into the name and change the text. Is there a better way to do this? [link] [comments]
Question about Google TakeOut transfer to Apple iCloud... new to macOS Posted: 16 Jun 2019 12:25 PM PDT so I've begun the download of my huge Google TakeOut zip file. Once its downloaded what's the best way to get that file into my Apple iCloud photos or the macOS photos app? EDIT. its just photos and maybe a hand full of videos. not sure how to get that into my Photos or my iCloud [link] [comments]
Stop MacBook Pro from disconnecting from WiFi when screen is locked Posted: 16 Jun 2019 05:10 AM PDT I am using macOS Mojave 10.14.5. I have noticed that when I lock my screen (Ctrl - Command - Q) the WiFi disconnects. This is really annoying since any file I might be downloading in the browser stops downloading. And any ssh sessions I have open get disconnected. How do I stop macOS from disconnecting from WiFi when locking the screen? [link] [comments]
10.12.6 and WiFi issues after security update Posted: 16 Jun 2019 10:27 AM PDT Tl;dr is did the security update and I can no longer access my network. All the other devices access it fine. Since it's a stooopid macbook pro without an ethernet (2016), I ended up using my old macbook pro (2011) as a hotspot with the bluetooth. (I run Sierra because I can't afford the adobe creative suite subscription and am only a part-time graphic designer so I'm stuck with 6.0) Question: If I can't access the internet with wifi, but CAN with bluetooth, aren't bluetooth and wi-fi sort of on the same chip/running the same process? It makes no sense to me that my bluetooth is working and not my wifi. And diagnostics didn't find anything wrong with my wifi, just can't talk to my wifi. [link] [comments]
Get rid of "Updates Ready to Install"? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 09:45 AM PDT Does anyone know what the name of the process is that causes these notifications so I can kill it? I'm sick and tired of Apple's heavy-handed approach to notifications. We should be able to turn these off or there should at least be a "Skip these update" pulldown option. [link] [comments]

Mail app suddenly has "Bulk Mail" folders. Posted: 16 Jun 2019 09:18 AM PDT I have done the research; two of my imap accounts (from ATT) have recently added a "Bulk Mail" folder each. The other imap account is Comcast and doesn't have a "Bulkmail" folder associated with it. The problem is, junk mail is not being filtered, everything that is bulk mail from those two accounts goes into "Bulk Mail" without being filtered. This creates a double step in viewing and deleting. Anyone know how to get rid of the "Bulk Mail" folders? [link] [comments]
Fake app (webpage driving program) alternative? Posted: 16 Jun 2019 05:17 AM PDT I've used the app "Fake" (http://fakeapp.com) for a while to do web scraping, but the developer seems to have no interest in it any more. Does anyone know of any alternatives to this? (I know about Selenium, web driver - I'm hoping to find another nice Mac like app). thanks! [link] [comments] |
