[Discussion] Clarifying how unc0ver’s Restore RootFS option works and how it compares to Succession

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 11:56 AM PDT

Anyone claiming that unc0ver's Restore RootFS option won't fully revert the RootFS to the stock state on iOS11.3(+) is wrong: It reverts RootFS to the read-only snapshot which is created by the system in the restore process. This snapshot is never modified after creation.

iOS11.3 added a safety feature that creates a read-only snapshot of RootFS in the restore/update process and sets the system to boot from it. This feature effectively breaks the remount process that is required by the majority of the jailbreaks.

Jailbreaks effectively disable this mechanism by renaming the snapshot that the system is set to boot from—When the system fails to find the snapshot, it mounts RootFS normally and therefore fixes the remount process that is required by the jailbreak.

The Restore RootFS option works by reverting this process. Renaming the snapshot back to its original name essentially results in the system reverting to it on the next boot—Ending up with a clean RootFS.

This option should always fully revert RootFS to its stock state—Unless the system snapshot was intentionally deleted and re-created with the same name or if the device was updated from a jailbroken firmware without a full restore.

The Succession Restore tool downloads the entire restore iPSW from Apple's servers, extracts it and compares the present RootFS and the RootFS that was extracted from the downloaded iPSW, replaces the modified files and deletes the new files that do not belong to the system.

Restoring RootFS works by renaming the system snapshot back to its original name—This happens in a heartbeat and is essentially a native system feature—Which makes it much safer than any other method. This also enables iOS's native "Erase All Contents and Settings" functionality.

If you are looking for a clean start while staying on the same firmware, you should use the built-in Restore RootFS option and optionally run "Erase All Contents and Settings" to clear the user data—Unless your installation of iOS is an update-install from a jailbroken firmware.

If your installation is not a clean installation but an update-install from a jailbroken firmware, then you should consider using the Succession Restore tool as the Restore RootFS option won't be able to help you as much in that case.

[Request] Axon - New notifications should automatically expand when they arrive, skipping an extra tap.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 03:32 PM PDT

My phone is on my desk, I get a text while doing homework. Currently I have to tap on the messages icon to read it even if it is the only notification. Priority hub had this option and I think it's pretty essential.

[Update] Nougat (Android NC on iOS) 0.7 and future plans

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 11:26 AM PDT

Hey guys, its been several months since I last released a post about Nougat, but I'm here to announce the new features and ask for feedback on what I plan for the future.

    Nougat 0.7

I've spent the last week or so updating Nougat with QoL features and requests from the community

    • Fix Nougat conflicting with the NC
    • Added custom toggles support (more for developers later)
    • Added tap to dismiss
    • New Icon and preference panel theme (got rid of the terrible old one)
    • Long press a toggle to launch its respective settings panel

Its up on my repo https://shade-zepheri.github.io if you don't already have it added.

Developers: I have provided documentation on how to create custom toggles here, feel free to create your own.

    Future plans

To keep this short, this is most likely the last beta and I plan on releasing the final product within the next month or so for $1 because I've been working on Nougat for 2.5 and felt it would be a nice tweak to make my first paid one. I want feedback from the community on if I should keep it free or not so feel free to comment

If you have any questions, comment or DM here, DM me on twitter @alfonso_fonzi or email me at [ziroalpha@gmail.com](mailto:ziroalpha@gmail.com).

EDIT: I have been receiving overwhelming demand for notification support. Do you guys want it to be like material design or do you guys prefer the stock look?

[Release] Externalizer - the internal "Confidential & Proprietary" lockscreen text for regular devices

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 09:19 AM PDT

    Hello.

This tweak was requested by /u/JiweiJin in a recent post here (he requested an update for the already existing "Confidentional & Proprietary" tweak that just imitated the Apple text but guess I went a bit further... :P)

What it does is add some text down the "Press Home to Unlock" label on the lockscreen. Therefore, it works on iOS 10-12 on all devices including A12x ones (even though I haven't tested...). This internal option is used by Apple to avoid prototypes being lost and for companies to be able to show that the device belongs to them. Sorry for my grammar. (It can probably be enabled through a profile, too.).

    Here's an example screenshot.

Customize options in settings. There are 4 labels that can be shown at the same time. Even though it works 100% fine on my device I still expect it to fail... Damn. It always be like that :P

Get it on artikushg.yourepo.com. Have a nice day. Goodbye. :P

    [question] issues with cylinder?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 11:16 PM PDT

For some reason sometimes when I open and close apps, my apps get spread out on the page. There's a larger space than normal in between them and I can't access the ones in the bottom row. It frequently fixes itself then the same issue arises again. Anyone know a permanent fix? Thanks

[Request] A wallpaper switcher for A12/iOS 12 devices.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 07:15 PM PDT

FreshWall is too expensive, and AutoWall isn't updated. An alternative to either of these that is updated for A12 devices would be great. Clicking on and off for a new wallpaper would be an amazing feature.

[Question] Does iOS ignores packet filter `pf` rules?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2019 11:44 PM PDT

Details about device: iPhone 6s on iOS 11.3.1 JB with unc0ver 2.2.0~b13
The problem: When I configure pfctl to drop out TCP traffic, Safari ignores this rule keeping going to Internet.
    What I've tried so far:
    - echo "block out proto tcp all" > pf.conf
    - pfctl -f pf.conf
    - pfctl -e
    - Go with Safari to Internet

Pfctl replies me that it is enabled and I can see the rule with the -s all argument. However, Safari ignores the pf rules and goes to Internet.

I encountered the same issue trying to redirect all the TCP traffic to a Transparent Proxy with the following pf rules:
rdr pass on en0 proto tcp from any to any port {80, 443} -> XX.XX.XX.XX port XXXXX

    What am I wrong?
    Does iOS ignores pf rules?
Are there any way to enforce the use of the firewall?

    Thank you!
