Why so much hate towards Touch Bar? Posted: 30 Jun 2019 08:48 PM PDT My daily driver is a 2012 MacBook Pro, but got a 2019 MBP for the weekend through work. My initial impressions were mixed, but I'm starting to like it. I might actually save up some money and get one for my personal use. The keyboard needed some getting used to but its adjustable. My biggest gripe was with the touch bar, I've heard mixed posts about it and some on Macrumors forums just disliking it. But why so much hate? I feel its a good step towards the future and using tools like BetterTouchTools just makes it even more worth it. The function row adjusting to the app and being dynamic is pretty cool. Posted: 30 Jun 2019 10:52 PM PDT I just bought a base model 2017 macbook pro for a good price, but the battery life has been dissapointing. I get 5 hours of web browsing on 50% brightness. Is this normal for this model or do I have a defective unit? Asking so I know if I return it or not. If it's normal then it's dissappointing as I'm upgrading from an 11' MBA from 2010 which had nearly the same battery life [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jun 2019 02:21 PM PDT I recently acquired a macbook pro model a1502 and im having an issue. First off i was given this macbook and was told a little bit of water fell on the keypad but it still works as normal. So the macbook only works and turns on with the power cord plugged into it. Theres no batter icon displayed on the taskbar, and when i go into the battery settings and check the box to display the battery icon. It immediately unchecks it self and it wont let me display it. And when i unplug the power cable it shuts off. So is it a bad battery? Something else major? Anything i can do? [link] [comments]
Would an Early 2013 MacBook Pro hold up for photo editing? Posted: 30 Jun 2019 05:45 PM PDT I'm in the market for a new laptop and because my current one isn't powerful enough for me (older Inspiron 7000 model). I'm currently looking at an early 2013 MBP on my local Craigslist. It has the 2.8 i7, with 16gb DDR3. I'll be honest I've never been much of an Apple person but it seems a MBP would be great for my needs. I guess my biggest question is how well do they age? Would this one be enough for editing using both Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, while also be useable for day to day web surfing? Also what would you consider a fair price for one? Any input would be greatly appreciated, thank you! [link] [comments]
SSD has failed (2017 MBP with TB) Posted: 30 Jun 2019 06:54 AM PDT I put my laptop to sleep, opened it back up, and it started flashing the question mark in a folder. Wouldn't register any keypresses except the power button. I noticed there is a repair program for failing SSD's for the non-TB models. Has anyone else's TB model have a failed SSD? Was it ever repaired under the program? I had a 2012 model that wasn't listed as eligible for the logic board replacement way back then, but when I called in, the Advisors had told me my model had in fact been eligible despite not being listed on the Support page. Windows-style folder icons for Mac OS? Posted: 30 Jun 2019 04:56 PM PDT So I use both Macs and PC's in my day-to-day life, and while I overall prefer MacOS, one thing that is difficult is not having the preview-style folder icons that Windows has. For instance, if you have a bunch of pictures of boats in a Windows folder, the default icon will likely be a boat. This is useful as many of my work folders are similarly named, so having that visual distinction is often helpful to prevent me from having to open multiple folders to find the right contents. I know you can go in and customize the icon of each folder, but after years of pictures, I have way too many folders for that to be practical at this point, from a time-standpoint. So is there an app or some other way to automatically have folders feature an example of its contents? [link] [comments]
Macbook pro 2015 15'' recall not eligible Posted: 30 Jun 2019 03:33 PM PDT I have bought the Macbook since 2015 but didn't use very often especially because it runs extremely hot and loud! Back then, i asked support and they couldn't help me, on the internet, i read its quite normal so i dind't care much about that. But lately im working on it more and notice again, how freakin hot it gets, even if i browse or watch a simple video. I read about the recall program about exactly this model lately, and thought, finally it gets fixed, i entered my serial number on the recall page but no? ''The serial number you entered is not eligible under this program because either:...'' So what's the problem? I have the exactly same problems, the battery overheating but it's not eligible? What can i do now? Does it only get extremely hot without exploding or don't i have to be afraid to explode? Thanks [link] [comments]
HELP - Pro Retina 15' Early 2013 problem with keyboard Posted: 30 Jun 2019 02:34 PM PDT Im having a problem for some time now. The keys on the "top" part of the keyboard sometimes stop working, and then start working back after some time. The letters usually work if i press them harder, but the numbers dont, it only starts working again after waiting. The problem with the letters is mostly with the top letter keys one, such as: QWERTYUIOP. Also, sometimes i type words correctly but they come out out of order (like "probelm) or some times repeated (probleem). Ive tried cleaning under the keys with a pointy object, didnt seem to do much good though. I write a lot and its kinda affecting my productivity also. Have you guys ever seen this problem? Any suggestion on what i should do to fix it? On a different note, i saw a recall for latest models, that didnt include mine, for a problem called "sticky keys" but im still not sure what that is. Is it similar? Could i have my keyboard fixed for free in an Apple store in this case? [link] [comments]

MacBook Pro can't detect Chromecast or Apple Play devices Posted: 30 Jun 2019 01:19 PM PDT I have a 2019 MacBook Pro running the latest version of Mojave (10.14.5) and for the past week I haven't been able to detect any Chromecasts or Apple TV's, let alone connect to them... The MacBook Pro is connected to the same network, I've actually casted from this MacBook before. As well as I can still cast from my iPhone to all the devices I tried casting to. I've tried restarting my laptop as well as the multiple Chromecasts I've tried connecting to, and the one Apple TV I tried. All I get when looking for a chromecast is 'no devices found' and and AirPlay is stuck saying 'Looking for TV...' UPDATE: I have tried resetting SMC and NVRAM. That did not fix the issue. I can also not Air Drop anything... I can connect to a bluetooth speaker though Built in diagnostic tool shows no issues... UPDATE2: Network Utility was reporting 0 received packets. Did a fresh install of MacOS using internet recovery (cmd+option+R) while rebooting. Network Utility is still reporting 0 received packets, but after a fresh install Chromecast and Air Drop work. If anyone has any idea why network utility is reporting 0 received packets, I would appreciate the help. [link] [comments]
How to do a transfer from a MacBook that’s screen doesn’t work Posted: 30 Jun 2019 05:10 AM PDT Hi! My 11 year old MacBook Pro's screen stopped working, so I bought a new MacBook Pro. I was told that I just needed to set up the WiFi to do a transfer but for hours it just says "Finding source" How do you do a transfer from an old MacBook that that's screen doesn't work to a new MacBook? Thank you! [link] [comments] |
