getting away from google photos? do it now. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:49 AM PDT for anyone on (iOS) thinking about dumping google photos and moving over to icloud: do it now, before it's too late. i have over 13,000 photos and videos in google photos that i tried to "take out" this weekend and move over to icloud: -the take out process gave me 3 zip files with total size of 108gb when only 80gb are actual images/videos. there is essentially 2x .json files for each picture that google adds their own data to -the takeout process absolutely breaks live photos. the 3MB originals become 200K stills. - the take out process creates .mov files which are not importable into photos/icloud - the take out process creates .jpg files which are not importable into photos/icloud, they're full size pictures but the only .jpg that works is a duplicate at fraction of original size. - out of over 13K "take out" files i was only able to import a little over 11K, what happened to the 2K images i have no idea, i don't even know how to parse through them, with all of the extra.json files all over the place it's an effing mess. i tried also downloading directly from photos apps. after it "creating a zip" archive for me about 6x in 8 hours and constantly failing i did notice that my browser tried to download over 60 individual 2gb zip files, a complete mess that never did work out. i finally got the google back up & sync option working (the one that's actually going away at the end of this month) and was able to sync, overnight, all 13K images and videos to my desktop. there are no extra json files and all live photos seem to be exactly as they were. tonight i'll be deleting the 11K photos from icloud and re-importing the clean 13K files i downloaded through backup&sync last night, I hope it goes much smoother. i think this is intentional lock-in by google, as long as you use the google photos app on ios it shows you all images just fine, along with live photos, but what you forget is that you no longer own these photos, not in bulk anyways. as soon as you try to take them out you get crippled versions on there and you see the level of privacy invasion that google take your photos to (by adding their own tag data through .json files). if you have a lot of images invested in google but are not on the android platform really do consider getting out now. The future of mobile gaming...? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:07 AM PDT So since the new Apple OS's will allow connectivity for XBox and PS controllers, where do you think this will take mobile gaming? Do you think more and more game developers (and I mean the major studios here like Bethesda, EA, etc) will start to develop their games for Apple mobile devices also? Will mobile devices, in turn, start touting gaming benchmarks as a selling point, to the point that it becomes something hardware developers start seeing as more of a priority? [link] [comments]
Keyboard Block iMessage when trying to reply from alert Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:03 AM PDT I can't get a screenshot right now, but often when I get a test message while in another app, I force-press the banner to pop open the conversation, and the keyboard always blocks the majority of the conversation. It drives me nuts. Is there any way to fix this? I'll grab a screen cap next time it happens. [link] [comments]

How can I stop apps and WiFi from shutting down when iPhone XR screen sleeps? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:05 AM PDT I'm using iOS 13 Beta 2 and am trying to stop two things: 1) My white noise app stops playing when the screen shuts off. There is no play icon on the lock screen to restart it. 2) WiFi is turning off every time the screen turns off. Thank you for any help you can suggest. [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:59 AM PDT Hello fellow ios user. I dropped my phone into river recently and my phone is totally dead. I send it to repair shop but they said they cannot fix it since the board is fried. So my question here, can i recover all my photos stored at my phone by removing the storage chip and put it onto new board? Or do you have any other suggestions? iCloud is another question since i turn off auto backup to minimize data usage. Thanks in advance. 😄 [link] [comments]

Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:53 AM PDT I cant believe a search on the App Store for "cPanel Client" returns no results? Anybody else here run a website and needs the convenience of checking key cPanel stats whilst out and about? What do you use? Thanks [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 05:49 AM PDT I use Whatsapp Web (in Franz) quite often for work rather than keep getting my phone out, however since installing iOS 13 (may just be coincidence), but Whatsapp Web is no longer working in the background. Every time the phone sleeps I get the phone not connected message. Anyone else having the same issue? Edit: Have searched and can't see anything for it. [link] [comments]

Speed up multitasking by disabling accessibility triple-click. Posted: 17 Jun 2019 01:46 PM PDT After years of having the home button set to accessibility options when triple-clicked, I have just found out that turning all the accessibility options off dramatically increases the speed that multitasking shows up on a double-click. My phone feels brand new! [link] [comments]

Mistake by Apple? Can’t restore from a backup made on 12.3.2, because an XR can’t get 12.3.2 Posted: 17 Jun 2019 05:00 PM PDT I work at a carrier retail store. I had a customer with an 8 Plus that was up to date on 12.3.2. I backed it up to iTunes. I went to restore the new phone, a XR, from the backup, and it won't, because as we know, the restoring phone must be on the same or newer iOS version than the phone that created the backup. We have to deal with that all the time where it says the phone must be updated first... but 12.3.2 does NOT exist on any other model than the 8 Plus. I ended up putting the new phone on 12.4 beta, to get it to be able to restore. Is this not a massive oversight by Apple? Was I missing somthing here. [link] [comments] |
