MacOS asking for computer password every time I want it to log me into a website. Posted: 01 May 2019 09:08 PM PDT I used to be able to go to a website on safari and it would auto-fill my information. For the last week or so, every time I do that, it'll autofill but when I go to log in it'll ask for my computer's password (like the one I use to log in after sleep) this kind of defeats the purpose of an auto-fill. Did this get added in an update? Is there anyway for me to turn it off? Thanks! [link] [comments]
mapped network shares disconnecting Posted: 01 May 2019 08:39 PM PDT I'm using mojave on a mac pro and i've noticed that my mapped network shares are disconnecting when i'm not using the mac, also I don't let the mac go sleep it's always on. It doesn't seem to matter if the mapping is using afp or smb they still disconnect and I have manually re-connect them. Has anyone else encountered this? Any known fix? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 May 2019 10:14 PM PDT I need to put a lot of different deliverables for different clients on to a hard drive and hand that hard drive to someone else (who isn't tech savvy) who will then copy the deliverables on to multiple separate drives for each client. The files are separated in to folders named after the different clients, however some of the clients require the same deliverables as each other, therefore file 1 in the client 1 folder is also something that will need to be in the client 2 folder because they also need a copy of that same file. I could just make a copy of the file and put it in the client 2 folder, but it's over 100GB and I don't want to waste space (especially important because all these deliverables will also be copied to a single master storage volume that the company will keep for archival purposes). What I would like to do is create a symbolic link to file 1 in the client 2 folder so that for the person I hand the drive to, it will for all intents and purposes look as though I've made 2 copies of it (or at least in no way look or behave like a traditional alias file, this person doesn't really know what each deliverable is and likely wouldn't notice there 2 of the same in different folders). Importantly, they should be able to plug in a blank hard drive, navigate to the client 2 folder and copy the entire folder across on the blank hard drive in order to deliver it to client 2, I want all of file 1 to be copied on to that drive when that operation is performed, but at present the file behaves exactly like an alias file, and if you copy it, it copies only the alias that is just a couple of KB and not the actual file that is it linking to. At the moment the best I can do is leave a little text document note in the folder saying what to do but it just seems silly there's no way to establish this kind of a link. Anyone know what I should do here? [link] [comments]
Need help diagnosing Kernal panic error Posted: 01 May 2019 01:55 PM PDT My Mac has been restarting with the 'your computer has restarted because of a problem' message for a while now. Sometimes it's just the once, sometimes it's every few minutes. I can't figure out what exactly is causing it. I have uninstalled a few older apps that I don't use anymore, but there is obviously something that is still causing it. Any help is greatly appreciated! Safari and random popups, clickjacking, flash update nonsense Posted: 01 May 2019 08:00 AM PDT Hi, So, I was reading a piece on the Washington Post website, when the tab in which it was opened was hijacked by that obnoxious "update flash to continue" fuckery. I know better than to actually click on garbage like that, but I have a quandary here. I've tried Firefox on my MacBook and it does indeed make my Mac run hot, and Chrome is a non starter for me, because I don't use or like Google. So, I am attempting to stick with Safari. But I cannot seem to find anything that works reasonably well to block popups, ads, and bullshit. I am new to Macs, this being my first, but I am not averse to getting my hands dirty in the terminal if need be, have Homebrew installed, and I just want to internet in peace. Does anyone have any advice for me that doesn't involve the sacrifice of virgins, goats, and playing Cure records backwards? [link] [comments]
New Mac. No antivirus. Do I need? Which is good? Posted: 01 May 2019 01:45 PM PDT I don't do anything too sketchy. But I may once in a while watch a movie on a sketchy site. [link] [comments]
Can't open an email saved in a file folder outside of mail apps Posted: 01 May 2019 07:35 AM PDT I sometimes save emails in file folders on my computer or in dropbox. They are saved as .eml or .msg files. When I open the saved email from the file folder, it opens my default email app, creates a new draft email, and attaches the file to that draft email (instead of just opening the saved email). If I try to open that attachment, it creates a new draft email with a new attachment. And so on. I can never actually open the saved email itself. This happens with both Outlook and the stock Mail app. It has continued through several iterations of OS updates too. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
