Posted: 11 May 2019 06:19 PM PDT Lat week I signed up for the HBO trial via the TV app (to watch Game of Thrones) . Watching HBO on Apple TV via Apple is a better experience than using the HBO No app on Apple TV. Search, navigation, and viewing episodes is better than the native HBO offering. Apple has gotten rid of more than few UI annoyances exhibited by the HBO app. I can see myself enjoying Apple TV + instead of other streaming services for this reason alone [link] [comments] |

Posted: 11 May 2019 10:02 AM PDT I've been having some issues with my 5 year old Magic Mouse. It keeps losing the Bluetooth connection. It's been really frustrating and I haven't found a software fix. After finally losing my patience I took the long out of warranty device into Apple. My attitude with Apple and any company really is "this is your product and it is not working as designed or advertised" an explained the issue. if it's out of warranty my expectations for satisfaction are always much lower, but I still ask. Ethan at Apple took one look at the mouse and said let me see what I can do. Moments later he came back with a new mouse, no questions asked and apologized for the problem. This is why in the 2-3 decades of being an Apple user I have almost always got satisfaction with any issue. Best customer service of any company out there. Not a shill just a continually impressed Apple user. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 11 May 2019 11:16 PM PDT There are three major companies competing for your attention and money: Apple, Google, and Microsoft. I've been a Linux user since I was 18, and I'm a programmer, so the thought of a non-Unix system as my core operating system is basically out of the question. Not to mention, Microsoft writes buggy, money-grubbing shit that I would like to steer clear of. Google and Apple both have pretty good options and a diverse selection of devices and software. The comparison is a bit apples to oranges, but so you will have to bear with me. When I say Google, I also include everything in the Android ecosystem (including non-Google software and hardware). Google lacks a desktop OS (no, ChromeOS doesn't count), so it's a wildcard position that you can fill in. The reality is that making heavy use of both ecosystems ends up being a bit awkward (in my opinion), so it's better to choose. What I have found is that Apple makes the best hardware for Google to live in, but Apple's software (while sometimes arguably inferior and/or lacking the same size of adoption that Google's has, such as in Chrome vs Safari or iCloud vs Drive) offers deeper integration into that hardware. So while in abstract, I can appreciate what Google does, Apple has the best stadium and also wins on its home turf. Thus, Apple's hardware and software ecosystem is the overall winner. First, I converted from Linux to MacOS for work. This was a practical decision because I had to use a company laptop, and I didn't want to start maintaining two different sets of keyboard shortcuts in my head. I also definitely didn't want to limit myself to one set of software on my personal laptop (such as whatever is released for Gnome/KDE) and then use a different set of software on my pro laptop (whatever productivity software I might use on the Mac, which not always but frequently enough only targets Mac/Windows). Also, one major craving that I can finally satiate is hardware that simply "just works" with components like graphics chips (you have no idea how much time I've spent optimizing Nvidia chips for my Linux boxes) and accessories such as bluetooth headphones or mice. Even today, small things like that can lead to hours of troubleshooting on Linux laptops. Hell, just months before I converted, Dell pushed a firmware update to their laptops that actually broke hibernation, so in 2019 I was left with a laptop that could not hibernate. Then, I converted from Android to iOS. I'm at a point with smartphones where I just want them to do a few basic things, and I don't care about advances in tech very much anymore. One key differentiator, actually, is iTunes. It's the best way for me to organize my 1TB music library and shuffle it around on my mobile device. Android, 10 years into its existence, still doesn't have a great option for playing local music. I don't want to become a cloud-dependent person. The last straw was Google abandoning the button navigation system and going to a shitty swipe nav system (Amazing how, even today, Android feels like a beta operating system). Apple's swipe system is much better. I preferred the precision and speed of the buttons, but I can live without them when I'm only doing basic stuff with my phone on a day to day basis. I'm not here to be a corporate shill or anything. I just wanted to share my experiences with software over the years and see if anyone ended up making choices for similar reasons. [link] [comments] |
It's Saturday and I have published my first ever app, minimalist puzzle game Posted: 11 May 2019 02:47 PM PDT Hello Apple community, I love Apple and since I held iPhone for the first time I knew I wanted to be a part of the Ecosystem and really wanted to release my own app and today is the day I have officially published my first app! I know it's probably annoying and not sure if it's even allowed to do some self-promotion (rules are saying that it's allowed on saturdays, not sure if that's a joke) if it's not allowed I'll delete the post. Anyway it's a minimalist puzzle game where you have to find a correct combination and logic between multiple toggle switches in order to turn them on. Casual fun and challenging game and I will appreciate any feedback as I am mainly looking for experience and want to improve. It's just really exciting for me and wanted to share that excitement with someone. If you like puzzle games feel free to check mine out Flip That Switch p.s. if You'd like to check my app out but can't afford to spend a dollar just let me know in direct message I can generate some promo codes. Have a great day. [link] [comments] |
Quality of graphic novel files on Apple Books needs to increase. Posted: 11 May 2019 03:06 PM PDT I recently started reading graphic novels on a 12.9" iPad Pro and I've been comparing the quality of the files for graphic novels on Apple Books and ComiXology and ComiXology has noticeably better quality. I emailed a few publishers about this and so far only IDW has gotten back to me and according to them, Apple Book files are lower quality because of Apple Books limitations. I did send feedback to Apple asking them to increase their file limitations so that the file quality of graphic novels can match ComiXology. If anybody here cares to see Apple Books match ComiXology I would say send feedback to Apple. [link] [comments] |

Let’s talk about FaceTime Audio Posted: 11 May 2019 03:28 AM PDT I have been using FaceTime Audi constantly every single day for over a year now. I literally use it with my SO for hours and hours. The quality was better than any other app until recently when things started to go down hill. The connection is so staticky and there's barely no noise canceling. Let's keep in mind that I'm on an iPhone 8+ and she is using an iPhone XR and still we have a hard time with it. We recently switched to Discord and I am really impressed with the quality, it feels like the good old FaceTime Audio. I'm wondering if anyone else have noticed this or it's just me who's suffering from a bad FaceTime Audio experience. I was questioning my our internet connection but we both have a pretty good internet with considerably high internet speeds (65mb/s+) [link] [comments] |
AirPods on macOS and Chrome producing a terrible user experience Posted: 11 May 2019 09:49 AM PDT Until very recently, Chrome treated Airpods like any other bluetooth sound device, but the latest update is totally messed up. It now leverages ear detection but it's very broken. If I'm watching a youtube or any other video, then pause it manually, then remove an airpod the video unpauses itself. If i take the second airpods out, it repauses itself. Then when i close the case with the airpods in them, it unpauses the video again. Which means if i have netflix or youtube or a reddit video open, and i want to get up for a minute, my video is going to pause/unpause 3 times with no input from me. If i turn off ear detection altogether in the bluetooth settings, it still pauses/unpauses, but only when i close the case to charge. There is no setting that i've found that makes the airpods function in a logical manner. [link] [comments] |
Please give feedback for my parcel tracking application Posted: 11 May 2019 04:30 AM PDT Hi, First of all sorry for my broken English because I am not a native speaker.I have an app called Find My Parcels that I have been developing for a long time. It's an app to track your parcels. It's a free app with an IAP purchase if you want to track 3 or more packages, notifications and extra stuff. It supports more than 300 couriers all over the world. The thing is, I am a self taught developer. I was a Chemistry Teacher and just decided to learn this stuff at the age of 38. I really didn't have any clue about software development and design. After 4 years I am not sure if I have any. Even though I don't wanna admit, I am sure my app has lots areas for improvement. If you can download it, give me your honest opinion I will really appreciate it. Thanks. Posted: 11 May 2019 09:25 AM PDT Posted about my calorie counter - Calorie Quick - a super basic/lightweight calorie tracker a few weeks back and received solid feedback. Made many of those suggestions (still working on paid ad-removal since tutorials are hard to come by) and I'm happy to be posting again! That being said, I'm always down for additional comment!
