Apps Made in Automator No Longer Functioning on Mojave

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 09:07 PM PDT

i have some .apps that i've created in Automator that no longer function properly. i have attempted to recreate them with no success. did something change?

here is an example: https://0x0.st/zZNH.png (i have changed the api key so it won't function, but use that for reference)

what's a different approach to running shell scripts in the background? i liked the old method because it allowed for me to stop the process from within the dock

How to easily type § symbol?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 12:33 PM PDT

Does anyone know an easy way to enter § symbol in MacOS (other than option + 6). I work in legal so I type this symbol hundreds of times a day, and the key combination is unintuitive. I tried using Karabiner to remap the "\" or "~" key to §, but apparently this is not an option. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

     Music on MacOS

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:44 PM PDT

I've been using  music on my iPhone and iPad for the past 4 years, and I finally got a MacBook Pro the other week. When apple can make such good apps for  music on the iPhone and iPad, I don't seem to understand why there isn't a decent app for macOS.
the  music on macOS, as we all know is built into iTunes. the same iTunes that houses, podcasts, tv programs films and audio books, and the buying songs from iTunes Store. iTunes is even responsible for syncing iPad and iPhone and the backup of those devices. WOW.
What they should've done is; create separate apps for
    1. Podcast - similar to what is there on iOS
    2. TV programs & Films should be part of the TV app which is coming to Mac
    3. Move audio books to the Books App. (on iOS too, if that's not a thing yet)
    4. Remove the 'Buy songs' section of the iTunes Store, because lets be real, iPods are gone, everyones moving to  music, and this will motivate the final few.
    5. Move backup and sync of iOS devices to the system preferences (they should probably rename this to Settings and keep it simple )
    6. rename the iTunes app to Music and build a similar experience as iOS. once points from 1 to 5 are done, the app will have less things to carry and will run smoothly.

With the ongoing marzipan program where developers can make iOS like apps fro macOS, It should be apples priority to show how its done. if they can do it with stocks, home, and voice recording app, they can surely do it for  Music

GreenTunnel, Deep Packet Inspection blocker that defeats censorship and DPI against large nation-state regimes!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 01:19 PM PDT

GreenTunnel bypasses DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) systems found in many ISPs (Internet Service Providers) which block access to certain websites.

You can install GreenTunnel using npm:

    npm i -g green-tunnel

    or use GUI version (beta):

    Reducing FaceTime Camera FOV

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 12:38 PM PDT

I have a MBP 2018 with touchbar, and while I love the quality of the Facetime camera, the FOV is a bit large. I work remotely and often have meetings in shared spaces, and the wide FOV means too much background is visible.

I found apps which allow you to zoom the camera, but this seems unnatural and I'd much rather prefer to crop the frame to a 4:3 aspect ratio. Are there any virtual camera drivers which would allow this?

    upgrade (High Sierra or Mojave)

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 01:40 AM PDT

Using Sierra right now on my iMac late 2012 (fusion drive) - can't fully understand what is best for me right now. I am afraid that my iMac be laggy if I go for Mojave now.. When read about boot time and so, it seems there are some *time* before running (specially if you came from Sierra)..

In short, will my iMac be slow? Perhaps go for high Sierra now and wait for Mojave if I go for new iMac in the near future?

    TIA

Is there any way to access boot camp other than the alt key?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 05:33 AM PDT

I've bought a new keyboard that I love, however I cannot access boot camp with it, the ALT key does not respond, i've tried the windows key as well and nothing responds on boot up. I plug in my old keyboard and it works fine.

I don't want to keep the old keyboard just for this and it's annoying as I do this often. I used to have an App that would reboot in windows from the menu tray but it got discontinued, and i can't find any option in MacOS anymore to reboot into windows or select OS.

I've read articles online that say to go into startup disk, i've gone in here and only MacOS can be selected.

Anybody know what I can do?

iTunes, VUZE, Media Magic Marker, and a strange deletion problem

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 12:13 PM PDT

I really don't know where else to turn. this problem is so specific and I hope someone out there can help me figure out the solution. Why am I adding this in the MACOS subreddit? Well, this didn't happen when I was using High Sierra.

BOTTOM LINE: When new torrents are added to iTunes from VUZE, they go in as "Home Movies". I use Media Magic Marker to process those files and it re-loads them into iTunes as "TV Shows". WHEN I DELETE THE HOME MOVIE VERSION, iTUNES ALSO DELETES THE TV SHOW VERSION.

It defies logic to me. I have confirmed that iTunes has each version in different folders (Home movies in the "Home movies" folder and TV Shows in the "TV Shows" folder in the iTunes folder). It would seem to me that, since these are 2 different files listed in "Recently Added" as 2 separate entries, I should be able to delete one of them (like I used to in High Sierra), but when I do, iTunes deletes the other one as well. It doesn't matter whether I delete the TV Shows version or the Home Movie version, the other one inevitably gets deleted.

    Any ideas?

Mojave on Unsupported Mac Installation Question

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 10:21 AM PDT

Hello. I have downloaded the patcher and Mojave, but I don't have a large enough USB drive. Can I partition my hard drive and load the installer to the new partition and install from the new partition to the old one? Then can I combine the partitions afterwards?

I've already backed up my Mac, too.

Command + tab is driving me crazy!

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 05:02 PM PDT

I'm new to MacOS and I usually use two Firefox windows, one private and one normal. Pressing command + tab takes me to another application, like email or notes, which takes me out of focus and ruins the workflow.

Is there a way to switch between windows instead of applications?

iTunes is opening randomly, and playing the same track...

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:34 AM PDT

I'm on the latest version of macOS- mid 2012 MBP 15 inch.

    No bluetooth devices connected.

iTunes randomly opens, and starts playing a track. It's the same track every time, a local file.

I'm trying to work today- and it's getting quite annoying!

    Does anybody have any ideas?

Is my MacBook Pro (2018) unusually hot at 52-55 degrees Celsius?

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 01:17 PM PDT

I've noticed that my MBP has been operating at a seemingly high temperature with only safari and MS word running.

Is this (52-55 degrees Celsius) a normal temperature range?

Can't create Left and Right tab shortcuts in chrome

    Posted: 05 Apr 2019 07:22 AM PDT

Hi I'm new to mac and don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question. I went to system preferences and changed the "Left Tab" and "Right Tab" chrome shortcuts to (Command 1) and (Command 2). When I am in chrome however the shortcuts only work to switch between two tabs. If I have three or more tabs open the command doesn't allow me to access the 3rd, 4th, etc tabs. Thanks for the help!
