VHS on Imac ? Impossible ?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 01:38 AM PST

    Hello !

I used to have a MacBookPro with a cd player. Now I have an Imac (and Mojave), and it like there's no way to install something to rip my old VHS... In the past, I use to have Easycap or stuff like VideoGlide. Now, impossible to find something... I still have a vtop device (VHS to USB). I'm looking for help everywhere for three day...

If you have something, thank you very much !

    Can't Find Documents Folder

    Posted: 23 Feb 2019 01:31 AM PST

I consider myself computer literate, however those skills lie in PC. Mac's setup still confuses the bejesus out of me sometimes. Anyway, I keep all my files in one place in the Finder application on my 2012 MacBook Air. This was in the Documents folder, visible on the left side of Finder with Downloads, Airdrop, etc. I had this genius idea to try to drag the Documents folder out of the finder window onto my desktop for easier access, and ~boof~ it disappeared. Literally. It's not in Recents, Launchpad, Trash Bin, anywhere. Is this a feature of MacOS that I'm not aware of, and it ended up somewhere easily found? Or am I SOL on everything I kept in the Documents folder?

I am running MacOS High Sierra version 10.13.6.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Can't create Safari custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Mojave

Can't create Safari custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Mojave

So for a long time I've disabled the ⌘Q shortcut to quit Safari. Worked perfectly on Mac mini and MacBook Air (circa 2012). Still works great on the mini running Mojave. But now I have a 2018 MacBook Air and I can't get custom shortcuts to work.

In System Preferences -> Shortcuts I create a ⌘+Option+Q = Quit. This overides the default. Or at least it used to. When I set this, or ⌘+Ctrl+Q or whatever, it doesn't change the standard command. I can assign ⌘Q to another menu item, but then Quit shows no shortcut at all. Anyone have an idea?

Is there a way to do an "all files" search like on macOS High Sierra

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 11:09 PM PST

This used to be on the older version. But now it is just a "recents" thingy. I am pretty sure there is a way to get a smart search to do this.

Is there an app that can bring back this functionality to Mojave?

    THanks!

Triple boot for mid 2012 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 06:12 PM PST

So I have been searching all around and trying to do a triple boot with Mojave, windows 10, and Ubuntu on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro but not having much luck with the guides I'm finding.

I was able to run dual boot with windows and Mojave no problem. But when I tried to set it up for triple boot no matter what guide I follow I seem to fail.

I want to be able to put all 3 os on the same hard drive but the problem is that when I set up windows it creates a Hybrid MBR and I believe this is the problem when going to ubuntu because of the 4 partition limit.

Now I have 2 ssd in my MacBook one that houses the os and the other holds my home folders. I don't think I would mind splitting it up between the 2 drive but here is my 2nd problem. I can't repartition the ssd where my home folder is. So I can't even do that.

My end goal for everything if even possible would to have all 3 os on one ssd and then storage for each on the other.

If you can point me in the right direction Let me know it would be greatly appreciated.

"Brooklyn" Screensaver in recent EverythingApplePro Youtube video

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 04:35 PM PST

I was just watching a recent video on the channel and WOW that screensaver on his iMac in the background looked amazing. The link in the description from the video has a typo but its supposed to link to this GitHub repo which has the screensaver. According to the developer the screensaver is "inspired by Apple's Event on October 30, 2018" in Brooklyn.

I knew I couldn't be the only one excited about it so I wanted to share.

Forced to use LibreOffice, but it freezes (beachball) even crashes constantly. Tips to make it work?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 03:56 AM PST

    Hey /r/macOS/

sadly I'm forced to use LibreOffice for a project I'm involved in and the decision to use LibreOffice was made a long time ago by someone way above my paygrade.

We use multiple big spreadsheets with over 20 sheets, some of them containing thousands of lines of data each with 80 columns. It is used to do calculations. A migration to another system is not desired, as it works on over 95% of the user's computers (Windows) and the few macOS users are the irrelevant minority. The sheets also contain a lot of scripts and macros, which are protected and as far as I was told the reason to use LibreOffice, was also due to limitations of MS Excel in regards to that scripting.

Has anyone experienced the similar issues?
Are there any tips to make it work with less freezes/crashes?

    Thanks a lot in advance!

    iMessage Bug?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 10:36 AM PST

Anyone else experience an error when first opening iMessage the screen partially freezes? When I first open iMessage the screen freezes, however, I'll still be able to hear sounds and move the mouse. If there is a video is playing it freezes and then after a few seconds it will fast forward to the correct spot.

I started experiencing this issue after updating to the new update (Computer Information Below).

    Music management system

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 06:46 AM PST

Any recommendations on a music management system for a Mac (for playing/tagging/etc)? I loved Media Monkey on my windows PC (and said PC is dying a slow death). So now I am looking for something similar to run on my mac, since I'm going to have to switch all my music files over. Thanks for any suggestions!

Any apps to obscure the whole screen except what you're using?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 09:40 AM PST

I'm looking for an app that would stop people from looking over my shoulder when I'm working. I've found a lot of apps that dim the screen except for the window you're using, but I want something even more aggressive than that. Something to only show me the part of the screen that's moving perhaps. If anyone has any leads that would be amazing :)

Edit apparently blackberry has something like what I'm picturing called "privacy shade" where you drag a little selection around the screen and everything else is blacked out

    Black Bars in Photos App.

    Black Bars in Photos App.

Reposting Here, since no one responded on the HighSierra Subreddit.

Any idea what the deal is with these black bars in the Photos App in HighSierra?

They don't appear to have any meaning, and I can't figure out what they are. Totally random.

Can't find an answer online either.

What is the best version of Mac OS for my late 2009 Mac Mini?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 08:49 AM PST

I have a as stated I have a late 2009 Mac Mini. I upgraded the HD to an SSD but it still only has 2gb ram which I intend to rectify. I had El Captain running on it before I switched to An SSD and it ran ok but it certainly needed more Ram. Currently I am running Lion 10.7.5 I believe and I am considering taking it to Mavericks as I will have better overall compatibility with apps and iTunes etc ( or I hope )..

I am wonder if anyone else has any experience with this model. Would it be enjoyable with a Ram upgrade to run El Capitan or Sierra etc.? Will Mavericks let me watch iTunes Movies? Should I just keep Lion and enjoy a perfectly running Mac that can surf the internet and play music and be a perfect little shop computer?

    Thanks in advance.

How to match sorting from ls in finder?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2019 05:57 AM PST

I noticed that the filename sorting is different between bash (ls) and Finder, and also Atom. This makes it slower to use these components in tandem.

Is there a way to adjust the sort order of Finder to match ls?
