    iOS should be able to do character recognition of a WiFi network name and password. So next time you're somewhere like a hotel you can just point the camera at the little card with the details written on.

    Should I trade my 8 plus for an XR?

    I recently discovered that I have to cancel cell service and switch to a different provider for reasons out of my control. But before I do that I need to pay off my iPhone 8 Plus ($366) and then move to another company.

    I figured I'd stay with the 8 plus because I love how large it is (I have huge hands so the normal iPhone is too small for me) but I could get between $400 and $500 for the phone on eBay since it's in near perfect condition after being in a lifeproof case for its entire life.

    But would it be worth it to jump to the XR?

    Obviously I'll make a little cash doing so but I'd love to hear what XR owners say about their experience.

    I was an avid iPhone user since the 3G. Absolutely obsessed with its clean and user friendly UI. Simple yet sophisticated, the ability to jailbreak was something I truly enjoyed. Mad props to all the "old" dev's out there and new of course. Anyway, when the galaxy note edge came out I just had to get it because of the edge lol. I have since had android, all Samsung, currently the s9. Great phone and all but now the iOS bug is itching again. If anybody has the time or will to give me just thir opinion on why I should go back I'd really appreciate it. I'm almost determined already but some cool selling points would be very much appreciated. Thanks beforehand. Have a great day everyone!!

    iPhone 7+ needs a new charging cable every few days

    Hey. My girlfriends iPhone 7+ has just now started popping up messages reading: "This accessory may not be supported" when trying to charge. The brick is original but the cables are not made by apple. Whenever the phone decides it doesn't like the specific cable it needs a fresh one that works for a while. The official lightning headphones work during these fits.
    Surely they can not force you to use their cables only? Better yet these aren't even the cheapest ones due to our outlet placement, thus reguiring us to use longer and braided cables. No one else we know seems to have problems with other manufacturers cables. Thanks in advance!

    Edit: Updating the software didn't fix the problem. The "old" cables still don't charge but the new one does. Also, the lightning port is clean.

    Difference between Apps using iCloud and Apps listed in iCloud Backup

    cross posting to this aubreddit because no comments in iosgaming

    I just started playing games on iOS. I dont want to lose my progress and looked into icloud sync. But, I see that there are two different options.

    The first are the apps listed under Apps using iCloud in the first menu under iCloud

    The second option are the apps listed within the Backups option of the iCloud Storage.

    How are these different??? I see Grimvalor under both, but stardew valley is listed only under the data backup option.

    Switch Apple ID to iCloud email?

    Hi everyone,

    I recently decided to switch from my current email provider to iCloud email but having trouble changing the primary email on my Apple ID to the iCloud one (it is already set up as a secondary one). I tried signing out of all of my devices but the one I'm trying to make the switch on but still getting an error both when going through Settings and on the Apple ID website.

    Is there a way to do this at all without setting up an entirely new account? All I want is to be able to receive purchase invoices, etc. in the iCloud inbox and my old provider won't allow email forwarding without upgrading to a premium account.

    iPhone 8 GPS doesn’t work when connected to car via Bluetooth

    My wife and I recently each got an iPhone 8 and we both have been experiencing an issue when using Google Maps, Apple Maps, or Waze while our phones are connected to a car via Bluetooth.

    For whatever reason, when the phone is connected to the car via Bluetooth the phone GPS does not work - it thinks that we are a couple streets away and it stalls and doesn't keep up with us. When disconnected from the car, the GPS works again.

    we have a Honda Accord and a Chrysler Pacifica - same issue on both cars. Both cars don't have on-board GPS so we rely on the phone for navigation.

    We previously each had an iPhone 6S and it worked perfectly in both cars.

    We tried resetting the phones, installing the latest iOS, removing and adding the phones to the cars, all to no avail.

    We have now resorted to not using Bluetooth when in the car so we can use GPS for navigation, but that also means that we don't have hands-free anymore.

    Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    Recover passcode of iphone that is not locked yet

    My iphone is not locked yet, it asks for the passcode that I don't remember, it doesn't let me to use fingerprint.

    Is there a way to recover the passcode using apple id or something? I have never synched with itunes or icloud.

    Wifi saying WLAN

    I bought a used Amazon certified iPhone 6s and it isn't connecting to Wifi correctly. Instead of saying "Wi-Fi" next to the Wi-Fi on/off science in Settings, it says "WLAN". Does anyone know what the issues is here and how I can rectify?

    I'm sorry, I don't know what model it is, but I can try answering any questions that can help me find the owner. It's sitting inside, thawing right now.
    TLDR- How to unthaw iPhone and find owner?
    Edit- It's not frozen anymore, but it's locked. It's also low on battery and I don't have an iPhone charger, how can I get it to the owner?

    So iCloud Photos are not end/to-end encrypted, right?

    I assuming this is because you can access the data via the iCloud web app. If photos were ETE then only your device(s) could access them.

    So, does this mean that Apple's 3rd party servers can read and scan your private photos (Gmail,Amazon,MS)?

    Because in order for the web app to display the photos in the browser, they are decrypting them to display them to you.
