    Hello!

    I have been getting malicious ads from time to time recently on my iphone (like « congratulation you've won something »), but I can't figure how to solve this. I tried to clear safari cache and cookies, without success.

    Any idea what could I do ?

    Getting Calendar Notifications for an Account not on my Phone

    I keep getting Calendar notifications ("time to leave") for an account I no longer have on my phone. I have removed the email account associated with it, removed it from the Calendar app, yet I still get alerts. Any idea why?

    How is it possible that the time displayed in the top system bar on my iPhone 6 is often late and even 2 minutes off sometimes? If there is one thing a phone should do correctly and which must not take an iota of processor work it must be it? ..

    Siri is back again

    I have already turned Siri and Dictation off by the following steps :

    • Turn off Siri in Settings -> Siri
    • Turn off Dictation in Settings -> General -> Keyboard
    • Turn off Siri & Dictation in Settings -> Screen Time -> Content & Privacy Restrictions -> Allowed Apps
    • Reboot phone

    The above was done in about 2 weeks ago. But yesterday I still found Siri appear in battery usage list. Why?

    Why I want to turn off Siri

    I found out that some apps are probably using Siri to spy on me for advertising for only Siri has the ability to listen on me 24/7. Whatever I said will appear on the recommendation list of some shopping apps just minutes after. After I turned off Siri & Dictation, this phenomenon seems to be gone. But it came back yesterday so I went to check the battery usage and found Siri again.

    I also found out that some apps just bypasses the background refresh limits of iOS. With "Background App Refresh" turned off, I could still found some apps have "Background Activity" in battery usage. Also Internet activities to their servers (not Apple's servers!) were captured by using Wireshark on local WiFi network when these apps were "in background".     I didn't jailbreak my phone and I've confirmed that there are no offloaded apps and no configuration profiles on my phone. So what is this???

    iPhone wants to update an app I do not have

    I do not have automatic updates turned on, so every so often I go through and update my apps manually. Today I noticed an update for an app that I do not have, asking me to update it. I double checked my phone (occasionally my phone downloads apps that other family members have downloaded onto their devices). I don't have this app anywhere. I clicked the update and then clicked open, and it opened my messages app, showing messages from my daughter. I scrolled through messages and couldn't see anything about this app (thought she might have sent me a link or something?) but could find nothing in our messages.

    I did find, when looking through the message app, that I could send a sticker from this app. I'm wondering if my daughter has sent me a sticker at some stage from this app, and now the app thinks it is on my phone? I have no way of deleting this app as it is not on my phone, and I do not want to use my data updating apps that I do not have. There doesn't seem to be a way of removing it from my updates list either. Is this a new feature of stickers where apps can put themselves on our phones without permission?

    iOS News App Opinions

    Looking for your opinions on a worthy iOS News app. I used SmartNews in the past, but after noticing some trickery I deleted the app. Apple News is complete and utter garbage IMO, everything from how it's setup and arranged to the nonsense it actually displays.

    I do not want to create an account for a simple news aggregator... such as Feedly. I am currently using Microsoft News and it's decent with options and such.

    I also find it highly annoying and disappointing that Apple needs to force ad revenue into their cluttered, half baked News app. I cannot wait until they push ads into their web iCloud item. Times are definitely changing at Apple. I'm definitely losing respect for their latest tactics.

    Are there any iOS podcast apps that allow you to add custom files?

    I have numerous audiobooks in mp3 file form that I would like to listen to on my iPhone. For some reason, this is proving to be a much more difficult task than I ever expected.

    What I want:

    A podcast app so that I can use the speed up function (listen on ~1.3x speed) and/or use the "trim silence" function (if available). I do NOT want just a generic music player app that plays everything at 1x speed.

    My options/what I've looked into:

    • I am a longtime Pocket Casts fan, but it does not allow that addition of custom files on iOS (but it does on Android... damn)

    • Overcast: if you pay the $5 then it allows only 2GB of custom files to be added. I'm NOT against paying for a well-made app, but 2GB is a pretty low limit.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
