The dreaded butterfly keyboard issue has hit my MacBook 2017 Posted: 07 Feb 2019 07:25 PM PST I had never had this issue with my 2015 MacBook but now my 2017's Return key only responds sometimes, and I usually have to get it back to normal with some strong tapping. Other times it works pretty okay but then will stop again randomly. It's out of warranty but is there anything Apple can do or am I SOL? [link] [comments] |
Automatically back up folders to an external hard drive Posted: 07 Feb 2019 06:25 PM PST (Not sure if this is the right place for this) So you know how with iCloud drive you can automatically have folders sync over and copy to it? Well, I used up all my 50gb and I'd rather use my hard drive to do the same thing instead of paying for a TB of icloud drive. Is there a way to set that up or is it only a cloud thing? Hope i worded this the right way [link] [comments] |
Stuck in nasty loop, help break cycle Posted: 07 Feb 2019 06:07 PM PST I'm stuck in a nasty loop and I think apple has made this purposefully difficult!! I've not had an iPhone or apple product in quite some time but I've been charged the monthly .99 fee for years now. Its a nominal fee so it hasn't been high priority. But I want to go ahead and close this out. I followed the instructions per the apple support page. I input my login and password. It immediately sends me a verification code to enter. I type in the verification code. It sends me THREE more at once! And prompts me to enter the verification code again. I choose the last one sent to me. I press enter. It sends me THREE more and 1 comes from a totally different text number??!! How?! I'm prompted to put my login ID and password in again and it says I'm locked out. I've had to reset my password multiple times since I've attempted to close down this charge. Any idea what else I might be able to do stop the charges? Will going to the Apple store help at all when I have no apple device? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:18 PM PST so my phone (IPHONE 8) just randomly stopped working, it was only letting me use my touch screen on the home page. I couldnt text or use any application the screen would stop working. It randomly turns off and turns back on its been doing so for at least 15 minutes. It just shuts off and instantly turns back on, staying on the apple logo with black background so i never get a chance to control it. Now my phone is actually on... the screen is just completely black. I can tell because the home button vibrates but i cant turn it on or off so my phone IS on. It is completely out of my control it almost feels like its getting hacked or something. Please help im very annoyed. [link] [comments] |
Failed logic boards, two different iMacs Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:17 PM PST I have a friend with a home recording studio who has recently suffered two (confirmed) logic board failures on two different generation iMacs. The first was a 27" Late 2012 and the other just now was a 27" Mid 2011. On the latest failure, we were using the computer with some audio software and playing back music; nothing crazy. We both left for about 45 minutes, didn't shut anything down, and when we came back the computer was dead. I'm not convinced this is a fluke. All of this equipment is stuff he's used before, with the exception of the 2011 iMac. He just got it to replace his 2012 unit and it fried exactly the same way. He is normally using:
All of this stuff was used at the time of the most recent failure. I'm curious if there are any other techs in the community that might have an idea about what happened. [link] [comments] |
How to sort folders by the date of the content within them? Posted: 07 Feb 2019 05:25 PM PST I just exported my iCloud photo library, so I can back it up externally. However, in doing so it grouped them in folders, obviously these folders are new and so they all have todays date, what I'm trying to do is have these folders sorted by the date of the photos within them (as the dates on the photos are the dates the photos were taken). Any ideas?
Thanks in advance, Nico [link] [comments] |
How would I go about printing on a preprinted government form? Posted: 07 Feb 2019 05:18 PM PST So I need to fill out a government form and I would really like my info to be easily readable hence printing. Is it possible to somehow print onto the form i physically have? I'll include a picture of the form in question at the bottom but basically it's a bit thicker than regular paper. I can't make copies of said form, as they only accept the original form that was given to me. This would be done on a Brother HLL2395DW with a MacBook Air. Just curious if this is something that's possible, and what program i would need to do such a thing Thank you in advance Picture of form in question https://i.imgur.com/wHNwIno.jpg [link] [comments] |
Specifying WIFI network connection among two different networks with the same SSID Posted: 07 Feb 2019 07:22 AM PST Hello, I work at a university where some buildings' WIFI connections are managed by two different IT departments. I can connect to the internet with my macbook in building X, but with the 'same' network in building Y I can't connect to the internet. IT people in building X told me that they don't manage the WIFI in building Y and there is nothing they can do, and the IT people in building Y said since this is my personal computer and I'm the only one to submit a ticket like this, it must be a problem on my end and they aren't going to troubleshoot. Here is the thing: building X and building Y are not even 50 feet apart; I'm staring at the dozens of outdoor WIFI antennas on building X from my desk in building Y right now. I could conceivably connect to the working WIFI in building X while sitting in building Y, but the networks have the same SSID so I don't know how to specify the connection. Is there a way that I can ensure that I'm connected to the building X WIFI connection while I'm sitting 50 feet away in building Y, despite the two networks having the same SSID? EDIT: I've been trying to use the airport command line utility to associate the SSID with a particular BSSID that actually works, and I do believe I found the building X BSSID, but it seems that the --associate and --bssid modifiers no longer work in recent versions of OSX. Are there any analogous commands? It seems weird that functionality would be removed from the command line and not replaced with anything. As an aside: has anyone noticed finder crashing a lot in mojave? It's happened two dozen times this morning since I've began troubleshooting this issue. [link] [comments] |
Ipad 6th generation wifi issue. Posted: 07 Feb 2019 07:07 PM PST So I recently got an Ipad 6th generation for school use, but I've been noticing that when I lock the screen and leave it idle for a few hours, the Ipad disconnects from the wifi network. I've tried all the basic steps like resetting network settings etc...but nothing has worked out. I also don't believe its an issue with the network since my Android phone stays connected all the time. Someone please advise me. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Left phone in car but turned off, is it safe??? Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:32 PM PST Today I left my iPhone XS in the car fully turned off as I couldn't take it with me. I left it in the glovebox where it was the coolest place in the car. After a few hours, I left and got phone out of glovebox. I have just turned it on as I waited for it to cool down. Is it still safe? Or would there be any expanding of battery? Or any other damage? Sorry for english, typing this fairly quickly [link] [comments] |

AirPods don’t work/connect as intended Posted: 07 Feb 2019 04:43 PM PST My AirPods worked fine the first couple days I got them, but soon after they constantly struggle to connect. They don't connect when I open the case and put them on like they're supposed to. Most cases I have to open Bluetooth in the settings and then try multiple times to connect them. They'll connect and make the chyme in my ear and then right when I go to play music or watch a video, they disconnect and I have to go back to the settings again to reconnect them. It usually takes one try in the settings but a lot of times it still takes multiple attempts. However, once they actually connect properly, I never have issues with them disconnecting. Any helpful tips to overcome this annoying issue? [link] [comments] |
Bypass User Login Screen - Snow Leopard 10.6.8 Posted: 07 Feb 2019 04:30 PM PST So one of my friends forgot their username and password for their Mac. And I've tried countless ways to bypass the login page. The last effort resorted in me getting stuck on an installation page for language settings trying to create a new user via terminal. The menu just goes on and off and I don't know how to go back to the original login screen. These are the instructions I followed from this http://www.macyourself.com/2009/08/03/how-to-reset-your-mac-os-x-password-without-an-installer-disc/
Any help would be greatly appreciated.. [link] [comments] |
Podcasts keep skipping to the next episode Posted: 07 Feb 2019 03:18 PM PST Can someone help me out with this? Podcasts, no matter which one, just skip every few minutes to the either the next episode or the previous episode. It doesn't look like there are any solutions from Googling it and it looks like it's been a problem for a while for many. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 11:21 AM PST I have 2 Macs in my office. Both computers are on the same Wifi, but they're not appearing under "Network" Anyways, I want to basically create a folder where we can both add to and download from on our computers. How do I go about doing this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 02:43 PM PST I deleted a picture. Then I deleted it from "Recently Deleted". Is there any way of ever seeing that picture again? I believe I have iCloud Photos turned on. I'm a bit confused on whether I can get that picture back or not. I tried looking at Apple's official website, but I can't seem to find the answer. Please Reddit, help me! [link] [comments] |
Apple TV 4K CAPACITY. 64Gb worth it? Posted: 07 Feb 2019 12:39 PM PST I want to get a new Apple TV, the 4K. I have the previous one and now I want to get the 4K. Does it really worth it to get the maximum capacity? Is there any new model coming in this year? What to take in consideration for the capacity (32 or 64Gb). [link] [comments] |
Safari screen glitch/flicker during full screen video Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:56 AM PST Hi, Video here: https://streamable.com/jp4if I have this problem where whenever I am watching something in Safari in full screen, randomly a frame from an old video (watched several hours before) would start flickering every time I move the mouse. As you can see in the video, there is a random bright frame that flashes up every single time I move the cursor. Except that the frame is not really random, and I recognise it from a video that I watched earlier this morning. The frame will stop flashing if I don't move the mouse. However, if I have subtitles turned on, the frame will keep flashing as soon as one line of the subtitle disappears, and it will keep flashing indefinitely. This has been happening for years, through several macOS versions. I am using a mid-2012 cMPB 13", running on 10.14.2 Mojave. While the laptop is old, it is running the latest version of macOS, and the fact is that I have had this problem in every version of macOS that ever ran on this. It is a strange issue, and the only solution I found is to restart the mac, but the problem keeps coming back, it happens every day. I have not managed to find a similar question asked before, where one frame from a previously watched video is retained and keeps flashing up for hours. Any advice on how I could go about troubleshooting this? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro 2016 Wi-Fi in n out Posted: 07 Feb 2019 03:08 PM PST Hi everyone, I have a 2016 Macbook pro touchbar with osMojave. I have been having random issues with my macbook where the wifi will work for about 7 minutes then i have to go turn wifi off and on back again really quickly and it will find the service right back. Has anybody dealt with this before and would know what to do? I just updated the OS , it was doing this before the update. Its usually not that big of a bother but i have online lockdown browser exams where I can't do the "turn wifi off and on back again" trick. Can somebody please help? [link] [comments] |

Early 2009 Mac Pro won’t display picture after SSD Swap Posted: 07 Feb 2019 07:11 AM PST I bought a second hand Mac Pro from a resale shop and the previous owner spec'd it up a bit. I am by no means tech savvy. It has three 16gb of ram sticks and an upgraded graphics card (Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition.) I bought a new SSD from OWC and tried booting it up with a normal pc keyboard and I never got any kind of picture on the screen. Then I realized I had an old SSD from an old MacBook and tried booting it with that and still no picture. Could it be the graphics card? By the way the Mac Pro itself appears to have been dropped because it has a big ding on the bottom. Also, I'm just using a normal TV screen, does it have to be an Apple display for it to work? I read somewhere that this model Mac Pro supports Ram sticks up to 8gb a piece, and mine has three 16gbs, could this be the issue? Any help or pointers would help, thanks in advance! I got an Apple iPad 2 (not sure) from a friend, but has some issues Posted: 07 Feb 2019 10:01 AM PST Hello guys! I just received this iPad 2 (I think) from a friend who was moving out of town. He didn't use this iPad for years since he thought he had lost it somewhere, but in the end it was hidden somewhere in his beedroom. Anyway he gave it to me and said "If it works, keep it. If it doesn't, trash it". So I came back home, charged it and when the display turned on, it looked like the picture attached. Do you think it's something bad and therefore impossible to be repaired DIY? Thank you very much! :) EDIT: Model A1396, so it's definitely an iPad 2! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 09:53 AM PST Looking at picking up this 2016 12" in MacBook, but it has this lovely little problem. Is this part of some recall or just bad luck? https://i.imgur.com/mrVfcnj.jpg [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Feb 2019 07:34 AM PST Hello, We have two iMacs, one is an older one and one is a newer one. The newer one is not being used but we have made a backup of the photographs on it and will migrate the older iMac files, users and such to the new one. In order to do this, does the newer iMac need to be reinstalled and updated before we use the migration tool or timecapsule backup or can we just overwrite it without doing this? Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong place. [link] [comments] |
