Would you mind if Apple changed the iPhone’s refresh to every 2 years instead of every 12 months?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 08:25 AM PST

Seeing as some of the Mac side don't often get yearly refreshes, how many Apple users would rather Apple switched to launching new iPhone's every 24 months?

iOS 12.2 Beta 2 Loads images in iMessage way faster and smoother no matter how far down you are!

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 12:28 PM PST

Title says it all folks. I recently noticed this in iOS 12.2 beta 2. Idk if it was in the first beta of iOS 12.2 but it's a great quality of life improvement to the iOS. It's really useful if people want to find something within the photos tab of iMessage without waiting 2 dynasties for them to load. Great job Apple! Now honestly all that's left to do is improve audio messages and searching quotes within iMessage.

PSA: 2018 Macs with T2 chip unusable with external audio interfaces for some

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:33 PM PST

This is not a request for help, and I realize this might affect a fraction of the user base, but please hear me out.

The issue, namely audio dropouts, presents itself on all the T2-based Macs, and it seems to be a continuation of the "speaker crackling" issue that was reported in late 2018.

However, being much more frequent, it renders these machines pretty much useless for any professional audio work when connected to some interfaces by manufacturers such as:

    -Native Instruments

    -RME

    -Apogee

    -Yamaha

    -MOTU

These are some of the largest names in the pro audio industry, with tens of thousands of interfaces used in the same number of studios around the world.

It frankly astounds me that Apple, a company that was and still is considered by the industry the pinnacle of stable work tools, did not care to test their products in environments where they will be used.

Now, were I talking about some fringe product with non-documented compatibility, I wouldn't be writing here. But this isn't that. This is a widespread issues that doesn't affect one manufacturer or product, but a whole class, used by both video and audio professionals alike.

For 15-inch MacBook Pro users with Photoshop installed, don't let this bug kill your battery life.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 08:06 AM PST

My 15-inch MacBook Pro was randomly getting hot and losing battery life like crazy. Eventually I found that whenever I used Spotlight, it would occasionally trigger the dGPU and would NOT turn itself off afterwards.

After doing some digging I discovered that Spotlight would sometimes run into a file in the Photoshop application folder that caused it to bug out. I solved this by going into Settings > Spotlight, and in the Privacy tab, blocking Spotlight from searching the Presets folder in the Photoshop app.

Problem solved and now my computer runs cool most of the time and only triggers the dGPU when it actually needs it.

iPhone XS Max battery case is bloody amazing

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:20 PM PST

Apple gets lots of heat- happens when you're on top but this battery case will literally get me through 8pm before it even gets to my actual phones battery with moderate to heavy usage

    That's fooking impressive

I've been an iTunes user since 2001. I have 23,941 songs in my library, all of which are synced to iTunes Match, and most of which have a star-rating. Given this, why the hell doesn't Apple Music have any idea what I actually like to listen to?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 03:12 PM PST

Sorry for the ranty thread-title, but this is just baffling. I've been a Spotify subscriber for years, and one of the most impressive aspects of their service is how quickly it learned what I like / don't like, and how often their "Discover Weekly" algorithmic playlist suggests amazing songs which I've never heard before but instantly love.

I bought a used Apple HomePod (here on r/AppleSwap) a few months ago, and I started an Apple Music account to get a feel for what life in the 'iTunes ecosystem' feels like. I'm just baffled by Apple Music - despite having access to thousands of starred songs in my iTunes Match account, it still seems to just be suggesting a never-ending stream of "Top 40" pop songs and random hip-hop / dance tracks, none of which are really things I'm into. Given the staggeringly vast library of music Apple Music taps into, their utter failure to get even remotely close to suggesting new music I'll like makes me think that there's either a massive fundamental flaw in the service, or that I'm just doing it wrong somehow.

Anyone else experience the same thing? Am I missing some simple thing here, or is this really what Apple Music is?

Is there a way to disable apps with free trials?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 04:32 PM PST

My son just downloaded 3 different apps to get free FortNite Bucks. They are free trials that automatically roll in to a monthly paid subscription at $13 per month after the free week. He has no payment method on his Apple ID and his ID is linked to mine.. I received the emails from Apple today but I ignored them because they were in my spam and I didn't sign up for anything. I can't go on my Apple ID and cancel them either. I tried to use his ID but the subscriptions section doesn't show up on my phone.

    Posted: 07 Feb 2019 02:31 AM PST

does iCloud only have SMS or Call a phone number as 2FA authentication?

I got stuck in a shitty situation where I locked myself out of my house with all my apple devices inside.

Tried to log in on iCloud to check my contacts list to call my landlord.. and was stuck because all the devices to authenticate were not in reach.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:20 PM PST

I have Adblock, 1Blocker, purify, all of which block ads but when you click on something say a search button, it takes you to another tab but safari tells you that a content blocker blocked that page, is there a way to block pop ups (as opening the new tab) ?
