PSA: Changing country in Apple Music completely deletes your library with no option to recover Posted: 05 Feb 2019 09:50 AM PST Hello all, I recently moved back to my home country after living abroad a few years, one of the first things I wanted to do was switch over my Apple ID to my new local debit card, however, you cannot do that without unsubscribing to Apple Music. After googling, it seems Apple keeps your data up to 30 days after unsubscribing, i figured that was fine since I was planning on re-subscribing right away. Well, as it turns down, if you change country, they completely delete your library, contrary to what I´ve read both online and here, its completely gone. According to Apple Support, this was a recent change. After spending over an hour with Apple on the phone, they were unable to help me, said i should re-build my massive library, and this is probably a good time to mention Im a bit of an organizational freak, all my songs were organized into smart playlists, with tags, custom genres, lyrics, i even had my own music uploaded, each carefully edited with all details filled out to blend with my Apple Music library. I´ll be switching to Spotify as this is just completely disappointing, and as a person who is all-in on Apple products I am dissapointed in Apple. The fact that all customer service could do was link me to the feedback pages says it all. If anyone else is considering switching countries on their Apple ID´s, migrate your songs over to somewhere else first. If you are going abroad and wanna change to your local card, dont. Posted: 05 Feb 2019 04:05 PM PST With Apple MFI Lightning to USB C Cables starting to hit the market more this year, I thought I'd test charging an iPhone X using an iPad Pro now that passthrough charging is capable through Lightning to USB C cables. For disclosure, I do own Eastern Collective - the Apple MFI Brand Cables I am using in the video. Devices Used 256GB iPhone X 64GB iPad Pro 11" (2018) Eastern Collective "Cascade Cable" - Apple MFI Lightning to USB Cable The Process The iPad Pro started with a full charge of 100% while the iPhone X had a charge of 1%. The Lightning to USB C Cable was plugged into the prospective devices. The timer promptly started on the iPad Mini upon connecting the devices. I checked the device every 15 minutes to see how charged up the iPhone X was and how much battery it took away from the iPad Pro. Results I have a graph to represent the data from the table below. As well as a video of the set up, process, and results
Conclusion The main thing I was surprised at how much battery the iPad Pro still had after the iPhone was charged up. It makes it a pretty viable option to charge up your iPhone but still have your iPad Pro with plenty of battery to get some decent use out of it. The demising returns of the iPhone gaining less and less percentage every 15 minutes wasn't all to surprising, and i think that last 5% would be a bit of drag on time vs time you could just disconnect and start using the devices. I've been thinking of testing other devices to see if they do passthrough charging, etc. A GoPro, a DJi Drone, etc. Hope everyone in r/apple finds this interesting! What are your thought? PSA: on choosing the right MFi-Certified Cables.jpg Posted: 05 Feb 2019 10:58 AM PST PSA sheet I made on buying right MFi Cables. I'm really concerned about people buying the wrong 'fake certified' Lightning cables so I made this. Hope it helps and this will cause further discussions and the cables to avoid on the comments. Will we get a sync between contacts and People from Photos ? Posted: 05 Feb 2019 07:15 AM PST Hi everyone I am taking some time to clean up my photo library and my contacts, and there is something I don't understand how it is not possible. In the Photos app, you can identify People pretty easily, and it even finds People from your adress book. This should result in the possibility to get theses photos as an option when changing a contact photo. It's so stupid to have contacts showing in Photos but not the other way around [link] [comments]

Brand new iPhone SE for 229€ at local store Posted: 05 Feb 2019 11:55 PM PST Hi, I was wondering whether worth purchasing a brand new iPhone SE for 229€ I found at local store. I already have a Xiaomi mi A1 which is great Android stock experience but I'm curious about iOS as I already own new MBA 2018. My main concern is battery life compared to the mi A1 Any thoughts? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:26 AM PST This iPhone 5 has been used for a long time, and it has been able to hold a charge for about 2 hours. (It's not much, but I don't think it's that close to dying yet). Last night, I left it charging, and when I woke up it showed the red battery icon. I decided to clean the charging port with a flat-head screw driver, and now the icon shows a charging cable. I assume I damaged the port somehow? If not, what would the next best course of action. I was thinking of buying a battery replacement and replacing it myself, but now with the charging cable not even being detected, I think that's a bigger issue. Posted: 06 Feb 2019 02:21 AM PST I recently signed out of my iCloud account on my phone. When attempting to sign in again, I had to approve my sign in with another device using my account. The thing is, this is my only apple device using this iCloud. Is there any way for me to approve my iCloud sign in? [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Feb 2019 05:51 AM PST I know last month there was an announcement that the HomePod should not play music at the same time as an iPhone while on the same account unless the user has a family account. It previously did so due to a bug. I tried it at the time and sure enough the HomePod would pause when AM started playing on the iPhone. Now it seems you can play both again simultaneously. Is this working for anyone else? [link] [comments]
iPhone XS Max Smart battery case reducin my battery life? Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:42 AM PST Hi all, Quick question. I bought the iPhone XS Max smart battery case the week it got out and haven't taken it off my iPhone since then. When I bought the battery case my battery life showed 100% in the battery settings. Today I checked and it showed 97%. This brings me to the question, does the smart battery case decreases the battery life of my iPhone? Because I think 3% less of battery life in less then a month is huge and I don't want to have to change the battery of my iPhone in 6 months. Does anyone have some information about this? Thanks Edited typos [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Feb 2019 01:34 AM PST So after my 1.5y/o iphone 8 kept crashing, I was issued a brand new iphone 8 as a replacement. After restoring my most recent back-up, my brand new phone is exactly like my old phone. So even though it's a fresh new phone, it still feels exactly like my phone has done for 1.5 years. This is obviously a HUGE selling point for iPhones, because you can always pick up where you left off so you're more bound to icloud than to your actual phone, AND the 1.5 year old phone felt nowhere near sluggish. But on the other hand, this reaffirms the feeling that there is close to no value for me in upgrading my phone anytime soon. I used to be on that 2 year cycle where I'd actually want a new phone after 18 months already, but that was when getting a new phone actually meant getting something completely fresh and different. Now even if I were to get the X or whatever new models exist, it still does exactly what I'm used to but with some minor improvements, which I can not justify spending more than €1000 on. Funny how a feature that makes me stay with apple actually prevents me from buying new apple products. [link] [comments] |
