A New Survey Found That 70 Percent of Singles Would Rather Date iPhone Users

I figured out a way to permanently hide the 4 annoying popups to "View BLAHBLAH in the official app" when browsing this site on Safari

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 11:28 AM PST

I have shared this a few months back but seems like Reddit recently updated and added another popup to their mobile site. So I did some digging and thought I would share the new adguard rules to hide the annoying popups. I sometimes use google searches to find specific reddit posts and these popups have been getting very annoying recently. I was extremely annoyed by these popups taking over half my screen and not accepting "No" as an answer. This also lets me hide the other "Open Reddit App" and "Use App" buttons as I don't use the official reddit app anyway so they were pointless.

Before/After Screenshot of what I am talking about:

    https://i.imgur.com/SPdSs8Y.png

It also hides google AMP banners for reddit as shown here:

    Before: https://www.dropbox.com/s/du8hz9tch93ttyl/Photo%202018-11-14%2C%2011%2038%2018%20PM.png?dl=0

    After: https://www.dropbox.com/s/nwd4ksm5n32sl0t/Photo%202018-11-14%2C%2011%2037%2043%20PM.png?dl=0

    Steps:

    1. Use any free content blocker app available on store. I used AdGuard. The free version pretty much lets me do everything I need. I am NOT affiliated by them in any way.
    2. In your content blocker app of choice, enter rules to hide the following classes:

.dualpartinterstitial (this is for the bottom huge banner)

.topbutton (This is for the "Use App" button at top)

.xpromopill (This is for the "Open Reddit App" button at the bottom)

      .upsell_banner (For Google AMP Pages)

.xpromopopup (The full screen modal popup with "See this community popup")

      .adlinkbar (The "Promoted" links)

    3. So for AdGuard, launch the app, go to "User Filter" and enter the following:

      reddit.com##.dualpartinterstitial,.topbutton,.xpromopill,.xpromopopup,.adlinkbar

      ##.upsell_banner

NOTE: the .upsell_banner is used for when Reddit opens via Google AMP and since it's coming from Google's domain and not Reddit's, .upsell_banner needs to be in a separate line.

    Here's a screenshot of it all: https://www.dropbox.com/s/pai7ilhad6160xe/adguardrules.jpeg?dl=0

    1. Tap Done and it will take a few seconds to take effect.
    2. Completely quit Safari from the app switcher.
    3. Now whenever you visit reddit on safari, those would be permanently hidden!

NOTE: You can hide other UI elements on other websites this way too. However one thing I figured out while testing this was a bug (not sure if a reddit bug or AdGuard bug) is that the class names need to be entered all lower cased for it to work.

You can also hide those annoying cookie notifications in AdGuard. Go to filters, scroll to annoyances section and enables the "I don't care about cookies" filter.

    Hope this helps someone!

Edit: wow didn't know this would be in such high demand! Glad I could make your life a bit easier for you guys! Thanks for the gold, platinum and all the wholesome comments!

Apple Music needs a major update in iOS 13.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:52 AM PST

    Hi all,

I've been an Apple Music user for about 3 years now. Although I love the service, and it has become a very integral part of my everyday routine - be it when I'm jogging, in the car or just at home - I think there are a lot of things that Apple needs to improve.

    1. Discovery:
One aspect where, in my opinion, Spotify blows Apple Music out of the water is discovery. Discovering new music is very essential for me and Spotify just makes it very easy to get the new releases to my notice. Even the iTunes app does a better job of letting me know the new releases, upcoming albums and so on.
    2. Suggestions:
Although Apple Music does a good job at recommendations, I think they can improve A LOT. The "new music" mix absolutely sucks, "chill mix" is still acceptable. The one that Apple absolutely nails is the "Favorite mix".
    3. Playlists:
I think everyone here can agree that if there's one thing Spotify knows how to do, it's to create awesome playlists. There's a playlist for every mood, every occasion, I love that. I also like how on the "browse" page, there's a playlist suggestion depending on what time of the day it is, brilliant. I hope Apple takes some inspiration from Spotify and tweaks up their playlists and curation.
    4. Recently Added:
This is one feature I absolutely love, being able to see all my albums that I recently added makes it super easy to play as soon as I open the app. However, I do wish that Apple gives us the ability to pin certain albums and playlists to this list so that they're always there.
    5. Shared playlists:
Another feature available on a lot of different music streaming services, I think it's time Apple let its users collaborate on the same playlist.
    6. Updated design:
Th current Apple Music design was last updated with iOS 10. The current UI is not only quite complex, but has also started to look quite out-dates. I think this will change with iOS 13 (let's hope it does)

I apologize if I sound like an Apple Music hater - I'm not. I use the service every single day and these are just some things I personally would like to see Apple improve.

I'm eager to know your thoughts, let's discuss.

TL/DR - There are a lot of things Apple Music needs to improve- such as Playlists, suggestions/curations, discovery, shared playlist, updated design.

Let me know what y'all think.

The iPad Air 2 is the best Apple product I’ve owned

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 02:16 PM PST

4.5 years ago when the iPad Air 2 was released it was amazingly fast. It blew everything out of the water. It made my iPad 2 feel like it was from the Stone Age. The screen was amazing for the time, the processor was fast, and the cameras were not bad. It was the complete package. I used it full time for school and it did everything I needed it to.

To this day it's an amazing device. It's not quite as fast as it was, and there's much better displays on iPad's nowadays, but this thing keeps trucking. I almost never have lag or hiccups. Compare that to my past iPhone's or the iPad 2 after almost 5 years and it's outstanding. It has the longevity of high powered laptops do after 5 years. It's like Apple future proofed this device as much as they could. It's well built and sturdy for how thin it is (doesn't bend ahem iPad Pro)

I've owned an iPod, 4 iPhones, 2 iPads, and 3 Macs, and an Apple Watch and the iPad Air 2 is definitely the best Apple product I've owned to date.

    Why did Apple kill Aperture?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 10:41 PM PST

Aperture was a great app for photo editing. One day Apple updated their OS (forgot which one, think it was Lion) and the Aperture app was no more.

    FaceTime calling a random person

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:13 PM PST

I just attempted to call my fathers cell phone number via FaceTime, while we were in the same house, and was greeted by someone who was most certainly not my dad. Double checked that the number was right in my contacts and everything checked out. Anyone else experiencing issues with this? I know there was a recent glitch with FaceTime "eavesdropping" but never dealt with that one that I know of, anyway.

Options (NAS?) for Getting off iCloud Photo Library?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 08:51 PM PST

So, iCloud Photo Library has served me well for years, but now I'm bumping up against my 200 GB monthly iCloud data plan, and I really don't want to start paying more, so I'm considering using a NAS instead, either WD My Cloud or Synology.

I see that both WD and Synology have apps that automatically back up your photos to their devices, but I'm curious how well this works. In particular, when you get a new (iOS/macOS) device, how do you access photos on your NAS? Through their apps? How well does that work? I mean, their interfaces don't look nearly as refined as Apple's Photos app on both macOS and iOS.

If you're in a similar situation or have already done this, please let me know your experience. Thank you!

It's time we move from the default of getting calls from anyone, to a white list of approved callers.

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 06:55 AM PST

Times have changed, and Indian telemarketers and robotcalls are not only a nuisance, but downright dangerous in its scammyness.

I get between 3-8 of these every day, and of course a few voice mails with static + sms for every one I dont pick up. I want to waste their time so I try not to hang up, but that means I render my phone useless for 10 seconds every time. This is on top of having apps that supposedly block out a bunch, and warns me that its a spam caller.

I think it's time Apple went to war on this, and let us have a blanket blocked number, with the option to add numbers to our white list, akin to Facebook friend request. To me it's mostly a first world problem, but these bastards are scamming the naive every day, and Apple could make a big impact in limiting this.

    Posted: 27 Feb 2019 01:41 AM PST

Me and my friend are currently doing work experience in Russia since it seemed like this was best way two spend two weeks out of school. Except me and my friend are 5000km away from each other. Yesterday at 16:00 German time my and my friends iPhone 6s' were fully reset by them selfs without any input from the users.

I don't believe this was a was coincidence and am asking if anybody else is experienced this problem or has any ideas what could have caused this.

I wish the Galaxy S10 ran iOS

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 04:00 AM PST

I used to wish that android phones could have the same level of industrial design as Apple, but now the situation has completely reversed. Looking at the S10 in person, it almost makes my iPhone X look outdated.

Infuriatingly, I know that Apple is too proud to do away with the notch on the iPhone 11. I hope it really shows when the next iPhone doesn't sell as well in China because Apple refuses to keep up with trends quickly.

Would Apple be remarkably different if Steve Jobs were still alive?

    Posted: 26 Feb 2019 03:33 AM PST

Just curious to hear people's thoughts. I think we were inevitably hitting the barrier of diminishing returns on smartphone technology anyways, so the relatively incremental upgrades of 6 to 8 and X to XS were going to happen, but what do you all think? Do the X and XS happen under Jobs or would we have remarkably different phones today? Curious to hear everyone's speculative take on it.
