I wish that Apple would arrange the apps anchored to the bottom of the screen instead of the top. Or at least give us a toggle option to do so.

Antivirus software doing more harm than good?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 01:58 PM PST

I have had my MacBook since 2013, never had antivirus software on it. Two years ago my university decided that in order to connect to the wifi, we needed both ClearPass OnGuard AND antivirus software, chosen from a list provided by the school (I downloaded Avast). Since downloading both of these, I swear my computer has been running slower. I replaced the hard drive only 2 months after I downloaded OnGuard, and it seemed to work better. My laptop runs fine when connected to my home wifi, just shitty when on school wifi.

Recently, the OnGuard icon at the top bar has been FREAKING OUT every time I get on the wifi. I live off-campus so I don't connect to school wifi very often, but when I do, it is ungodly annoying and I notice my laptop being shitty. I tried to do some research, and stumbled upon this quote from an Apple forum: "Don't use any kind of "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" product on a Mac. There is never a need for it, and relying on it for protection makes you more vulnerable to attack, not less."

Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've heard previously that Macs "don't need" antivirus software, but never heard of it doing more harm than good.

Do you have a warranty for the Iphone Silicone Cases?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 11:32 PM PST

Mine is completely destroyed without me doing anything. My Phone never fell down or I never had it in my pocket with keys. The only thing I do is open up the case and clean my phone once a week and putting it back and while putting it back on the sids of the case are destroyed smh.

Is Apple Maps working well in California after data updates?

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 04:27 PM PST

Apple Maps has rolled out its updated data for all of California, but I haven't seen anyone post anything about the experience of actually using it.

Is it better? Are you using it exclusively? What are the continuing problems? How does the new data compare to Google Maps?

    Any info would be interesting.

Apple Music Family Plan and shared purchases single payment question

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 10:47 PM PST

As the title states, we have a family plan. I am the account holder if you will. I get billed every month. It's on my card. My mom, sister, and two brothers constitute this digital and real-life family. However, whenever they buy things, it charges my card, and I get charged. For example, I was charged $11 because my brother needed some fortnite vbucks. Is there a way to keep the Apple Music shared to everyone, but retain payment to each their own? I went into my settings and I know shared purchases had to be on to have Apple Music family. However, I looked again and now it seems like shared purchases and Apple Music are separate. I disabled shared purchases, and Apple Music sharing remains on. Have I done it? Respectfully not looking for postulations and ideas on the subject, but rather some solid in-the-know advice.

    Cheers from Minnesota, USA.

    Scratched Screen

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 02:12 AM PST

I have the normal iphone X and I have never dropped my phone nor put it in my pocket with keys or anything other than my airpods but I have a small scratch that just pisses me off because I am one of those people that want everything they have to be in the best of shape they can be.

Does anyone here know of a way to remove this scratch without paying like 50 dollars to get a full screen repair when it's only a scratch. also if I put a screen protector on my phone (I should of does this already) would it make the scratch go away?

Photos App initially previewing photos at a lower resolution?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2019 01:33 AM PST

I noticed this as soon as I brought my iPhone XS. Photos aren't shown at full resolution in the Photos app until you zoom in. It's hard to tell with a screen recording but it's much more visible in practice, go try it. Is there any reason in particular why photos aren't shown in full resolution UNTIL you zoom in, and is there any way to change it?

I got a bigger SSD in an in warranty replacement.

    Posted: 20 Feb 2019 08:07 AM PST

My left speaker died for the 2nd time on my MBP 2016. Because I'm still in warranty i took it to the Store where I bought it(BTW the store is certified by Apple). Yesterday I got an SMS that said I could come and Pick it up. When I picked it up they said that they replaced everything(Top Case, Logic Board, Display Assembly). I asked why and the guy said he had no clue. The replacement of the Logic Board meant that I got a new SSD. Today I powered it on and soon realised that I got a 500GB SSD instead of a 256GB SSD. Was this just a mistake in the repair shop or does Apple have a problem supplying logic boards for the 2016 MBP's?
