itunes error 4005/phone indefinitely in weird limbo state? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:40 PM PST so i somehow forgot the password to my iphone 6 (i swear it somehow switched up on me; my muscle memory has my passcode perfectly, so i have no idea why it wasn't working), so i had to restore it using the iphone restoration process where you connect it to your laptop and hold down the power button + the volume button. i kept getting error 4005, though, no matter how many times i tried. after every error, it would just be stuck on the white screen with the black apple symbol you get when you're turning your phone on, and now it's just a glorified paper weight that can't do anything. i ordered an iphone 8 because i had an upgrade anyways and my current phone is ancient, but now i'm wondering how i'll activate my new phone when my current phone still has my phone number and data and everything? i also need to send it back cause money, sooo yeah.... i probably sound like an absolute hot mess right now, but i'd really appreciate it if someone could lend me their tech expertise and help me out! thank you so much in advance [link] [comments] |
Instagram causing iPhone to heat up and drain battery rapidly. Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:43 PM PST I just got my iPhone 8 in October and I've been having these strange occurrences where my iPhone 8 will get really hot and the battery will drain 2 percent in literally seconds. I've reset my phone 3 times. The first 2 times, I restored the backup from iCloud and the third time, being the most recent, I set it up as a new iPhone and installed only some of the apps that I have. The only apps that I've downloaded were Gmail, Facebook, Messenger, Google Maps, Apollo, Garage Band, Instagram, and Spotify. Is there a setting or something I should try checking before declaring it as a hardware issue? I really like my phone and I hate that I have to potentially swap it out. Any help is appreciated. If more details are needed, I'm more than willing to put them out there. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:30 PM PST I need to change my current phone number (for the past three weeks my phone has been flooded with 20-40 robo calls a day and it's causing me to be charged for an international overage fee on my phone service, I think my number has been "spoofed", I need to change this number). My current phone number is tied to my apple id. I have two-step factor authentication on my apple id and my current phone number is the number that receives authentication enabling notices if I try to log into my apple ID. I can't get two-factor authentication to turn off and I have read online that you are no longer able to turn off two-factor authentication once it is turned on. So how am I supposed to get a new phone number and tie that number to my Apple ID and then remove the current one that it uses for two-way authentication? I'm gonna call apple tech support tomorrow, just wonder if anyone has encountered this issue before [link] [comments] |
6S Plus - Poor voice reception and muddy speech. Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:41 PM PST i recently got a 6S+, and i didnt notice any issues for the first month or so. but as of this week my outgoing voice chat on a phone call has been non existent. in the standard handset mode im going to say 80-90% of my speech is not picked up, and what is picked up is very muffled. in speaker mode its better, but its still muffled. i can at least have a conversation this way. Voice memo and video both capture my voice perfectly. ive swapped my sim out with another 6s+ and tested both phones while standing in the exact same spot. no issues on the other phone. this rules out a network issue. i swapped between regular cell reception and wi-fi calling. no difference. did a "reset all settings" with no change. went through itunes "upgrade" in recovery mode with no change. does this seem like a software or hardware issue to you guys? buying a new lightning/mic cable is cheap enough, but i really dont want to go to all the work of swapping that guy out. Posted: 09 Jan 2019 04:03 PM PST I'll make this very short and simple iPhone 6s Plus - I use this as my Hotspot broadcast device When i connect an Android to it, it stays connected, permanently until i turn the Hotspot OFF When i connect my iPhone 6 to it, the connetion drops when i Lock the iPhone 6 and the Hotspot is auto turned off due to inactivity, Why is the iPhone 6 dropping the connection when lock screen, i want it connected consistently, like an Android? Iphone 7 Screen Not Working After Random Shutdown Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:05 PM PST I've replaced this phone's screen with one off of amazon. Besides the occasional hiccup it's worked fine until now. The phone shut off at like 20%, and when I turned it back on, the home button worked, the power button worked, but the screen didn't. Is there any fix for this, or is it just Apple cracking down on people who don't want to pay over $100 for an easy fix? [link] [comments] |
iTunes showing phone needs update (12.1.2) Posted: 09 Jan 2019 10:01 AM PST Hello. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes, it is popping up with a message that I need to update. As you can see in the photo (here) it is already up to date, and upon clicking "Cancel," will show in the iTunes summary page that my phone is already on 12.1.2. Is this some kind of bug that needs to be addressed? [link] [comments] |
I swiped a banner and now I can’t find it. Any way to see ALL banners, not just the ones you missed? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 03:28 PM PST The little white banner appeared on the top of my phone. It looked like a Reddit reply. I swiped up because I was just in the middle of something and wanted to check the alert later. Once I was done, I went to Reddit.. no updates. I went to text message... no update. I swiped down on the top left of the phone to get the list of recent alerts and there was nothing (I presume because the alert had been "seen" due to my swipe). Now I have no idea what the alert was, or where to find it. Does anyone know if all alerts are stored somewhere? Is there a way to get the alert pull down to show all alerts rather than just missed alerts? Thanks for any help you can provide! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 03:16 PM PST Hi all, Huge apologies if this is the wrong place to ask this question. Two years ago I smashed the screen on my phone. It was in such a bad way that I had to remove the top layer to not cut myself. I was really sad at the time because although the phone name was recognised by iTunes, I couldn't access it because I couldn't type the pass code. At the time, I lost a lot of pictures of a fertility journey my partner and I were going through. I accepted my losses and moved on. However, in December just gone my mother died suddenly of cancer. It seems silly but every picture of her is so precious now, and I'm sure there were some on this broken phone. My question is... What bit do I need to replace? I can't get my bearings with the phone at all. Is the digitizer is gone, or is that the grey panel and does it need to come off? Any help would mean the world. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:25 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm asking this for a friend who doesn't know what Reddit is: does anyone know of a way either in the iPhone or through a 3rd party app to only allow texts and calls to and from specific phone numbers? [link] [comments] |

Unlinking my Apple ID from iPhone without being able to use the touchscreen? Posted: 09 Jan 2019 12:16 PM PST My phone is signed in to my Apple ID and has an issue where the touch screen does not work most of the time. I know how to to a factory reset through iTunes, but after that it always still says that the phone is linked to my ID and I must sign in. I am returning the phone to the seller so I need to sign out so that they can use it. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
How to disable voice messages while keeping the outgoing greeting Posted: 09 Jan 2019 08:00 AM PST I want to do this for a temporary period of time, while I am out of the country being charged extra for the voice calls/messages. I understand I'll be charged for the outgoing message each time I get a call. Anyone know how to do this? I have already googled it and not had constructive results. Or if there are other suggestions I'm open to them. [link] [comments] |
iPhone 8 (12.1) Just Started Asking For App or Safari To Show Reddit Posts Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:01 AM PST Browse reddit via desktop mode on old.reddit. When trying to click on a post via iPhone, it is now asking to view post through app or Safari. This has happened occasionally in the past but if refresh it would go away. Now being asked on every post to view through Reddit App or Safari. Why is this suddenly happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
