YouTube finally supports the new 2018 iPad Pros Posted: 13 Jan 2019 06:43 PM PST The App Store description doesn't mention it but it does, however the iPad's bar (the one you swipe for home gestures and so) seems to be overlapping the navigation buttons (Home, Subscriptions...) Edit: I speculate it also supports the Xr and Xs Max? I think I read those devices weren't supported either but I may be wrong. Also, iPad Pros support HDR, but apparently the app doesn't enable it yet. [link] [comments]

Do you like Face ID on the iPad? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 12:12 PM PST Does everyone here agree that iPad with Face ID is superior to iPad with Fingerprint ID? I'm not so sure that I prefer Face ID on the iPad when in landscape mode. Sure it is safe and secure and less likely to be spoofed but I find that in practice, it can be frustrating to use. I have a cover in my iPad and find that almost always, my arm blocks the camera as I am flipping up the cover which causes the Face ID to fail. I then need to swipe up again and have to make a conscious effort to swipe up from the bottom center without blocking the camera on the side of the iPad. Maybe it is because I am left handed and therefor the hand I use is on the camera side of the device. Probably this wouldn't be an issue if I used portrait orientation instead of landscape. Two or three times a day I have to type in my passcode because Face ID has given up due to angle problems or blocked camera. If I'm laying on the couch with a blanket on and the iPad on my stomach, swinging up from the bottom can mean needing to rearrange the blanket to get to that low starting swipe position. After years of happily using Fingerprint ID on the iPad, it is taking some getting used to switching to the buttonless front of the tablet. I don't have a Face ID iPhone but I assume that it would be very nice being that the camera is always at the top and there are no flipping of a cover or face angle issues. :) [link] [comments]

My thoughts after three weeks with the Otter is Defender for the 2018 iPad Pro Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:03 AM PST I purchased this case about three weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at the speed of shipping - I received this case almost a week before my estimate arrival time. The case itself offers excellent protection, as per Otterbox's reputation, and I have no doubt that it will easily survive accidental drops or prevent the iPad from bending as a result of normal usage. While I am impressed with the build quality of the case, certain things could be done better. My pet peeves with the case are that the sections of the rubber bumper that are designed to be exposed (usb-c slot and pencil side slot) do not sit flush with the plastic iPad housing after frequent use; this is an extremely minor flaw that does not appear to hinder the protection of the device, and is understandable given the elasticity of rubber, but I would not be surprised if the pencil and usb-c flaps may sit poorer and poorer on the housing as they are used over time (though I'm confident that the engineers at Otterbox have determined this will not significantly affect the protection offered by the case). My secondary complaint is with the plastic screen protector. Though I believe it to be an issue with Apple's design, the cover hinders the sensitivity of the iPad Pro screen. I am perfectly fine with pressing slightly harder on the screen but this may be a preference issue for some users (to be fair though, I acknowledge that Otterbox and every other manufacturer who design screen protectors for the iPad Pro have to make a trade off between touchscreen-sensibility and offering meaningful screen protection. This is not a unique issue to Otterbox). Additionally, the screen protector produces a rainbow effect due to the air gap between the iPad Pro screen and the built-in screen protector from the Otterbox. This problem also isn't unique to Otterbox and cannot be solved without a way of removing the air gapad, such as adhering the screen protector to the screen; I am including this in my review as a suggestion for Otterbox to consider designing future iPad Pro Defender cases with the ability to adhere the screen protector directly to the iPad Pro screen instead of being factory adhered to the case (I don't expect them to try and do it with this iteration of the case for a variety of reasons, such as having to retool their production lines). The rainbow effect is fairly noticeable in various levels of lighting, which may be an annoyance to some. Finally, I wish to comment on the plastic shroud for the case. The shroud does come with a built in slot for the second generation Apple Pencil, though the plastic grooves which hold it are relatively thin and allow the pencil to slide forwards and backwards while in the shroud (though it does not move horizontally). I am satisfied with the "primary" viewing angle and find it to be very comfortable to use when drawing or taking notes for extended periods of time, in addition to typing with the on screen keyboard; this angle is a bit steep to careen your neck at but is perfect for use as a tablet (after all, the iPad Pro is not designed to be a laptop even though it can perform many similar tasks). The "secondary" angle is near-vertical and uncomfortable to use, in my opinion, though I can see it being used for media consumption. Just make sure to place a heavy object on the opposite side of the shroud so that it doesn't tip over, if you plan on hanging it slightly over the edge of a table. Overall I am very satisfied with the protection offered by this case, though the points that I mentioned are things to consider when purchasing this device. This case is meant to be rugged and offer unparalleled protection but it may not be the best choice for someone who desires for their iPad Pro accessories to be absolutely perfect. $130USD is a lot of money to spend on a case but I believe that it is a wise investment when protecting your $999+USD iPad Pro. Repair ipad screen (digitizer) Posted: 14 Jan 2019 02:06 PM PST Can anyone suggest the best kit you can buy online to repair an iPad mini 2 screen digitizer? I am aware of ifixit but are there others ? Thanks! [link] [comments]
Is the 11" iPad Pro a big enough upgrade over the 9.7" iPad Pro to justify the price? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 02:04 PM PST I currently have a 9.7" Pro I use from time to time. Mainly, I use it for some light graphic work with my Apple Pencil and for when I'm traveling. However, spend the majority of my time on my MacBook Pro for work and play use. The new 11" model look soooo nice, but that price seems a bit hard to swallow. [link] [comments]
Duet Display issues on Windows Posted: 14 Jan 2019 01:25 PM PST I just installed Duet Display on a new Dell Precision 7730 laptop running Windows 10 to use my iPad Pro as a second monitor on the road. But as soon as I installed and rebooted, Bluetooth disappeared on my laptop and Device Manager began showing issues with the USB controller. Uninstalling Duet Display and reinstalling the Bluetooth driver did not solve the problem. Has anyone else seen issues like this? I see a handful of other posts (like this https://www.reddit.com/r/ipad/comments/7yjncf/duet_display_causes_display_issues_for_new_laptop/) referring to video issues. [link] [comments]

Can Notability "save" only the changes during edits without saving the entire textbook? Posted: 14 Jan 2019 11:26 AM PST If I import a big pdf into Notability and make changes to it, will it sync the entire textbook everytime I write something on it? For example, will it sync the whole 100 MB notebook if I just add an underline? [link] [comments]
Glorified Media Consumption Device Posted: 14 Jan 2019 01:10 AM PST Alll these discussions and YouTube videos saying that if you're a student or using it for work etc should get the 12.9" and for everyone else get the 11". I had the 10.5" for about a year and always wished the screen was bigger for media consumption due to most content being 16:9 with huge black bars. I got lucky and sold my 10.5 for a good amount and went for the 11". Didn't notice much of a difference so I exchanged it for the 12.9". Boy, did I make the right decision. Media consumption is just so much more immersive with the bigger screen. Anyone else got the 12.9" solely for web browsing and media consumption and not for work/school. Expensive piece of slab for doing just that but I love it!! [link] [comments]
iPad App, text and drawing in one? Posted: 13 Jan 2019 06:51 PM PST I have tried Word, Notes, Notability and some others. I am after an app that will let me type like in word or notes, but when I grab my Apple Pencil it just lets me start drawing in the same space. I have found with Notes, Notability and OneNote etc they each make you preform a few clicks to go between typing and draining. Anyone see one that doesn't? Cheers. [link] [comments] |
