Instagram app for iOS slows the scrolling speed inside the app to show you the ad

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 05:53 AM PST

This is not a bug report or a complaint, but just my observation on a quirky "feature" of the Instagram app.

I don't know how to clearly explain this, or if this has been posted here before, but if you're scrolling through your feed on Instagram iOS app and try to get past an ad, the scrolling speed goes down than normal scrolling speed, so that you see the ad. it feels like there's a friction while scrolling. Like this

    Edit: typo

Edit 2: I just realised that the thumbnail for this post is a little edgy, I did not notice this while screen recording, sorry everyone.

Listen here Apple, Fix the damn VOLUME CONTROL ICON ALREADY!

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 07:03 PM PST

How hard can it be to have the volume bar at top of screen instead of dead center? We have been begging for YEARS.

    OpenTable reinstalled itself?

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 07:29 AM PST

Anyone ever have an app just appear on their home screen? I woke up this morning and OpenTable was installed. I don't remember reinstalling it and haven't had it in at least a couple of years. I don't believe it's due to purchase sharing either.

Thoughts? Honestly was kinda sketched out, even thinking maybe it was a virus (even though that's very unlikely haha).

How can I restore my 7+ to regular iOS 12

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 06:33 AM PST

I joined the Beta program on my 7+ back in June

I recently upgraded to the XR and will be giving my 7+ to a family member. I have moved all of my files over to the XR. How do I go about wiping my 7+ and putting back regular iOS on it? This person will have a new apple ID (curretly android user) if that makes a difference

    Thanks

Will iOS support DNS-over-TLS in the future?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 05:29 PM PST

Google's latest version of Android does. I use a VPN with PiHole (which uses DNS-Over-HTTPS) and I was thinking it would be nice if Apple supported one of the methods.

There needs to be something in between the Up Next and Calendar widgets

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 03:17 AM PST

Up Next only shows you one upcoming reminder/event and Calendar only shows you the events for the current day.

It would be great if there was an option to show all upcoming events in the Calendar widget instead of just one / for only the current day.

    Keylogger and virus on iOS

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 02:50 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about iPad security. I recently bought a HDMI to Lightning Dongle from a Chinese company on Amazon. When i connected the dongle to my iPad, a security prompt appear asking me if I "trust this computer ?"

I was a bit surprised considering that its a dongle and not a computer but I said yes and I type in my password. The dongle's worked and everything seems fine. The next day I started to use my iPad as usual but the virtual and physical keyboard started to be laggy and the letters took about 2-3 seconds to appear on the screen. Moreover, i tried to install a new app and the Appstore asked for my password instead of asking for touch ID as usual. When I put my password, the Appstore seems to be ok, the app started to download but then it ask for my password again which I typed again.

For information I own an iPad Pro 10,5 inch with the latest iOS 12 software.

I restored my iPad to a backup that predate the usage of the dongle and the lag disappeared. I also change my iCloud password to be sure.

But here is my question. Is it possible that the dongle i bought contain a microcomputer (Explaining the question of trust when i connected it) that install a keylogger or other viruses to hack my iPad and stole any information ?

I know it sounds a bit paranoid but this article from the verge.com explain that the official Apple dongle contain an arm computer inside which make me believe that the chineese dongle that I have bought also contain a computer with potential infection property.

    https://www.theverge.com/2013/3/1/4055758/why-does-apples-lightning-to-hdmi-adapter-have-an-arm-computer-inside

What do you guys think ?

iOS blocks messages sent to Android phone

    Posted: 10 Jan 2019 01:23 AM PST

My friend had an iPhone and switched to an Android device because he needed to change phone and Android devices are so much cheaper. I know it's bad, but that's not the issue. The problem is that when I send a message to him, iMessage doesn't use SMS and kind of queue the message. The net result is that I can't communicate with my friend through messages. How do I tell iMessage to always use SMS and MMS and not iMessage.

Do I have to erase the contact ? Isn't there another way ?

New to iOS - iCloud question

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:12 PM PST

    Hello,

I'll try to keep this short: As stated above, I am new to iOS and recently got an iPad Pro. I've turned on iCloud (it was off initially) and it took me to a settings page with a huge list of apps and a header saying "Apps Using iCloud" with four sections below it - each with different apps in it. I'm wondering what exactly this means and do I want the apps to use it? Most of the Apple apps in the first section are not using it, iCloud Drive (in its own section) was initially not "turned on" but I changed that, the next group of Apple apps are all using it and the last group of all my other apps are all using it. Can anyone please help me know what this means and what you allow to use iCloud drive? Is it backing up the app or just settings or something else?

    Thanks so much in advance!

Personal hotspot still works even if cellular data is disabled. Any way to disable hotspot?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:26 PM PST

I got my 10 year old son a line on xfinity mobile because they now have BYOD and I had an SE laying in a drawer. It was only for emergencies in case he needed to call us for some reason. It's free if you don't use data so I turned cellular data off and restricted the ability to change it via restrictions/screen time.

Our internet went out at home and his little clever self figured out that the hotspot still works even if cellular data is turned off. I got the notification that he was about to exceed his free 100mb and went to investigate and he told me. He was using it for his iPad.

I searched the web and went through screen time, but I don't see anyway to block his hotspot. Xfinity says they cannot remove the hotspot feature from his account. Any ideas on how I can block the hotspot without a jailbreak?

Should I upgrade an iPad with iOS 11.3.1 to iOS 12.1.1? Currently battery duration & everything else runs very smoothly, without problems but I looked up how many CVE's they fixed since 11.3.1

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 02:19 PM PST

CVE's fixed in 12.1.1 alone already:

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209340

(plus there are all the fixed CVE's in the previous updates since 11.3.1)

I read in other threads on this subreddit about iOS 12 being very stable, fast and also not slowing down older devices or even to the contrary: making them faster again (?). The iPad is from 2017 I think.

I do not care about any kind of new features. Performance as a whole and security & privacy are only of concern to me. (I'm glad you can uninstall pre-installed apps on iOS).

I don't have a computer or iTunes where I could perform some kind of backup beforehand.

thanks for any responses! apologies for dumb questions - usually not really an apple person.

Problem trying to use Verizon Content Transfer to get my contacts from my old iPhone 6S to my new Galaxy Note 9

    Posted: 09 Jan 2019 06:45 PM PST

My old iPhone 6S Plus keeps telling me to connect to my wifi in order to use the Content Transfer, but it's already connected in the settings. My new Galaxy Note 9 is connected and ready to go, but the iPhone is giving me issues. I've already tried updating the iPhone, restarting it, and re-downloading the app but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? Thanks!
