| Are iPhone replacement batteries new or refurbished? I think I got a dud from Apple. Posted: 06 Jan 2019 12:37 PM PST I took my 7+ (iOS 12.1.2) to Apple to get a replacement battery 2 months ago. Repair went smoothly as far as I can tell as they said there were no issues. The new battery honestly hasn't seemed to last very long, but I just told myself I was imaging things and didn't really pay any attention until last night and turned on the setting to show actual battery percent in the top status bar. On a full charge, I went from 100% down to 80% in about 20 minutes just listening to Apple Music while getting ready to go out. No screen on, background refresh is off. 3 hours later, with no more usage other than 3 checks of the time, I was down to 60%. I woke up to 49%. This is worse than my old battery. I have a very small list of apps on my phone, that hasn't changed changed since I got my battery replaced other than doing a fresh install of iOS. No FB, Snapchat, Instagram, or any other social media app that is typically associated with battery drain other than Apollo to browse Reddit. Battery health reports 100% health. Coconut Battery in MacOS shows 2942 mAh capacity with a design capacity of 2900 mAh, and 41 cycles. I'm going back to the Apple store tomorrow to talk to someone and see what they say. Has anyone had this happen to them? I assume I've just got a dud battery. I was curious to know if Apple uses new batteries for replacements or do they send batteries out for some kind of refurbishment process and that's what people get when they come in for replacement. | How can I refurbish my MacBook Pro by myself? Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:21 PM PST My MBP 2011 is ready to die. It can last 2, maybe 3 hours off the charger while closed and in standby mode, and around 1 hour while in use. I get the loading pinwheel by opening system preferences and takes no less than 15 seconds to do so. I don't have the money to buy a new one and apple doesn't sell any that are cheaper than $1000. What parts do I need to replace or update together my MBP running optimally again? I used to play league of legends from 2012 to 2016 without a hitch and would like to get it to a state where it can run it again. [link] [comments]  |
| Need recommendation on securing separate Apple IDs on Device Posted: 06 Jan 2019 08:05 PM PST I use a separate Apple IDs for the App Store (gmail) and iCloud (mobile me). I have 2FA turned on for my iCloud account for awhile now. However, it doesn't look like there's a way to enable 2FA for my App Store account as well. I was thinking I may have to set it up as a 2 Factor Verification old method instead, but Apple's site doesn't seem to make it as straight forward and I have to wait 2 days. Would 2 factor verification be the approach? Any other downsides I might run into? It's been a few years now and I don't think Apple still has a method to merge accounts. I originally kept the App Store account separate since it's my original account and I've also used it for the family Apple TV and other family devices. I wanted to keep my iCloud data separate. My concern was that lately, I've been getting password reset requests or my App Store ID keeps prompting me to enter my password on my iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV ... and it's getting annoying. | What's the easiest way to transfer 100GB of videos from my Macbook to iPhone Xs? Posted: 06 Jan 2019 01:32 PM PST I have around 100GB of videos from 2 old iPhones which over the past 4 years I backed up to an external disk using Image Capture. Now I have an iPhone with enough storage for all of them, I'd like to transfer all the videos from the external disk to my iPhone. I've tried using Airdrop but it failed if I transfer more than 50 videos at a time and it's so temperamental I gave up on it. Tried transferring via iTunes but it's weird, they don't show up on my camera roll but instead in "Videos" and I can't delete them. Tried using a 3rd party app called "Feem" but it transfers via my WiFi at like 500kbps so at that rate it would take over 50 hours of constant transfer... iCloud isn't really an option, I don't want to upload 100GB just to download it all again. Plus it would take me weeks because the internet in my area sucks. Any suggestions welcome! The videos are from 3 years of travelling and I'd love to have them on my phone so I can show stuff to friends and family :) [link] [comments]  |
| iMessage name and contact changes Posted: 06 Jan 2019 07:11 PM PST I had a spare cell number which I briefly used as a backup phone. For Xmas, I gave the phone and phone number to my kid after reseting the phone. I wiped everything and the phone is setup on his iCloud and iTunes accounts. I use to have the number saved in my contacts as myself. I removed it from my contact card and added his number to his contact. However 1: when he sends me a message it shows up in iMessage as coming from me. 2: when I compose a message to him it sends to him using his number but instantly switches from his name and contract to my contact without his number. I can't find anything online from someone who has had this issue. I tried all of the iMessage contacts fixes here Any suggests would be most appreciated. [link] [comments]  |
| Mac Book Pro freezing and crashing Posted: 06 Jan 2019 10:54 PM PST Currently running a mid-2014 15-inch macbook pro with retina display. 16gb RAM, 2.5GHz quad core processor, 512GB storage, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M gpu plus automatic graphic switching. For the past few months I've been dealing with spontaneous crashes where the display will freeze completely for about ten seconds, the fans will start whirring a little faster, then the computer will spontaneously shut itself off. It seems to happen completely randomly; sometimes I can go a whole day without a crash and other times it will crash all day within a few minutes of booting. There doesn't seem to be any correlation to overheating or high cpu use because it will often crash while I'm only using safari and sometimes even with no apps opened. There also does not seem to be a correlation with any particular activity. The crashes occur less often when the computer is plugged into power. However the weirdest part is that the computer has never crashed on me while it is plugged into an HDMI source, even with the computer display running as usual. This makes it very unclear to me whether this is a hardware or software issue or some combination. While it is plugged in it performs perfectly well and can play some pretty demanding games at their usual settings. The crashes do not appear to happen in safe mode either, but I haven't spent long enough in safe mode to totally rule it out. I tried resetting the PRAM, NVRAM, and the SMC. I tried turning off automatic graphic switching to see if that would solve anything. Updating to mojave did not seem to solve the problem. I've stumbled upon a few old posts from people with slightly similar sounding issues but I've never found a solution that has worked. I have not taken it to the apple store yet, but I'm guessing they will likely suggest dishing out a lot of money to replace the display and/or the motherboard, which I would like to avoid if possible. Posted: 06 Jan 2019 09:33 PM PST Currently trying to troubleshoot a weird issue with website data getting reverted to an old version from weeks earlier. Trying to nuke Safari to reset it to its "original" state and see if the issue returns. I saw some people mention you can go into ~/Library/Safari and delete its contents. Which I did. And emptied the trash, and restarted my Mac. When I went back into Safari, it seemed pretty much reset.. except the website data all was still there (Privacy --> Manage Website Data...). Which is the very thing I'm having issues with. Awfully strange that deleting the Safari folder wouldn't also delete that data. So either it's saved somewhere else, or there's something very weird going on. [link] [comments]  |

Are these steps safe? They sell a kit for half the price of what it'd cost to go get the battery serviced at the Apple store. | Album artwork doesn't show on iPod touch after synchronization Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:24 PM PST So when I checked my music on my device after I synchronized it, most albums just show a the standard music symbol instead of the album cover. But when I check the music on my device through iTunes (with song info), the album covers are actually there (as you can see here. They just don't show up on my device. And for some reason they do show up with some albums, just not with 90% of them. And it seems to be completely arbitrary which ones show their cover and which ones won't. I watched some movies on an external hard drive for an hour, cleaned up, and feel asleep. Woke up and my cursor is stuck in top left corner. I can't move the cursor but it clicks. WiFi is off at the of movie watching. This happened before when I had a hard drive touching the track pad but it stopped when I took it off. Things I've tried: Shut down The shift command option shorcut which shut down the computer Putting the machine on standby closing the lid for 10 minutes then opening it. | iCloud Calendar on MacBook Pro and iPhone Not Syncing Posted: 06 Jan 2019 09:03 PM PST Hello r/applehelp My iCloud calendar quit working between my iPhone, the cloud with safari, and my MacBook Pro this past Thursday. Events that were created before that day are on all three. Events created since are only on the device with which I created them, but all are supposedly under my iCloud "General" calendar. I have no idea what went wrong. I did notice that non-iCloud calendars recently disappeared as options on my phone, but I don't know if that is related. I've tried checking and unchecking calendars under my iCloud settings and that hasn't fixed the issue. They disappear and then come back as incomplete versions. Is there anything else I can try? I'd prefer not logging out of my iCloud accounts on everything if possible, because won't that mess with my documents on my Mac? Googling this issue didn't turn up anything useful. Thanks in advance! | Macbook Pro (2013) Keys q-o not responding Posted: 06 Jan 2019 03:00 PM PST A few weeks ago the 'e' key on the macbook pro keyboard began requiring 3+ presses to make it register. Somehow this spread to the entire top row of 'q' - 'o' keys and now none of them work. I replaced the keyboard but the same keys still aren't working so I think it's a software issue. Tried turning the on screen keyboard on but that didn't change anything. Can't seem to find much about this problem online so I'm curious if anyone knows what it could be of if doing something simple (like a fresh install) could fix it. [link] [comments]  |
| Getting Itunes to auto-fill song information Posted: 06 Jan 2019 04:58 PM PST Hey r/applehelp, I'm using the desktop version of iTunes and I just copied some mp3/AAC files from my phone to my desktop. First, I moved them into my file explorer, and then I dragged and dropped them into iTunes. I was hoping for iTunes to be able to auto-fill out missing info such as album, genre, artwork, name, and artist(s), but whenever I go to File > Library > Get Track Names I get a pop-up saying "iTunes cannot get CD track names for songs that were not imported using iTunes. To allow iTunes to look for CD track names for this song, import the song again using iTunes". I'm especially confused because if I right-click the song and go to "Show in iTunes store" it is able to locate the exact song, meaning it should know the song info. Sometimes I have my iPhone on my desk where it's actually quicker just to glance down at the iPhone notifications instead of my watch. | Posted: 06 Jan 2019 07:48 PM PST Hey guys, so i've got a weird issue going on with my macbook pro. But first, here's the specs: - Early 2015 Macbook Pro 13 inch - intel i5 - 16gb RAM - 128gb SSD - A replaced display. - a good condition battery. - no apple care The Issue: Alright so, basically what's been happening is that the screen will cut out/fade black. Now this only happens when the laptop is moved in a certain way. Also, when I put a hardshell case on the mac it significantly reduces the problem. The way I remedy the black screen is by picking up the mac and tilting the entire laptop in various directions (usually forward and backwards) until the screen turns on. Sometimes, after tilting and gently putting the laptop back down, the screen will fade to black and I have to repeat the process. This issue does not affect anything that I've done on the computer. For example, if i'm watching a video the audio will cut out and everything will "freeze" behind the black screen, until I get the display back and I can resume. What i've tried: - resetting PRAM, SRAM, and all those other keyboard combinations on startup. - using Apple diagnostics to see what the issue could be (it says everything is fine). - tearing down and reassembling the laptop (Not totally, the battery, keyboard, and display stayed attached). My thoughts: - Could be display issue, although that wouldn't explain why audio would also cut out when the screen goes black. - Possible logic board failure. To my knowledge I haven't spilled anything on or dropped this laptop ever in its 3 years with me. Also 3 years seems like a short amount of time for a logic board on a $1200 macbook. If anyone has any idea what's going on, please let me know. Also, if it comes down to it, how much do you think the laptop is worth in this condition? At times, this even happens when I start up the device and see the Apple logo in a greyish tone. | Apple TV won't connect to my WiFi during initial setup. Posted: 06 Jan 2019 07:20 PM PST Setting up my new Apple TV (I've set them up before) and it will not connect to my WiFi at all. In the initial setup my WiFi SSID shows up in the list of found networks and I select it, type my password and continue. Next screen just says No Network Connection and I can't even continue. I've tried setting it up using my iPhone as well as manually. I'm positive my WiFi is working because there are two phones and a laptop connected to it all the time. I've reset my router, I've unplugged the Apple TV and plugged it back in, and I've gone through the process at least 3x manually as well as 3x using my iPhone. Any ideas? [link] [comments]  |
