I wish “screen on time” was actually for this charge. Not 24 hours.

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 03:26 AM PST

I've been on iOS for a year now.

In that time I've seen a few Android features come to iOS (like group notifications thank heavens, what a nightmare that was).

Something Android does for "screen on time" is show how many hours and minutes the screen has been on since your last 'meaningful' charge as the default. Wish the iPhone showed this too. Showing me 4 hours screen-on time for 24 hours is great. But how much of that was this charge since last night and how much was yesterday's charge?

Should be a simple thing to see, rather than looking at a graph and trying to figure it out.

    Here's Why Apple's 5G iPhone Isn't Coming Until 2020

iOS 12 has finally brought Time Dilation®️ to the iPad.

Is it normal that my new 64 GB iPhone XS is already deleting pictures taken yesterday from my camera roll and making me fetch them from iCloud so aggresively?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:07 AM PST

For context, I'm all about iCloud photos, but I'm a bit surprised at how quick it removed pictures from my camera roll and uploaded them to iCloud. I.e. when I browse pictures from yesterday, it's making me download them from iCloud already and I just took them yesterday - is this normal? I've only seen this behavior when you browse really old photos taken from older phones. Just curious!

iPhone worldwide device marketshare breakdown (estimates)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 02:54 AM PST

Supplied by Statista, which uses iOS apps that bundle third-party analytics to give rough estimates on device market share. As only Apple would know the true numbers per iPhone. Found by u/thirdxeye

    Site: https://www.statista.com/statistics/606147/iphone-model-device-market-share-worldwide/

Image if Pay Walled in your region: https://i.imgur.com/MP4ztOu.png

All results are as of October 2018.

    1. iPhone 7 (20%)
    2. iPhone X (14%)
    3. iPhone 6S (14%)
    4. iPhone 7 Plus (13%)
    5. iPhone 8 Plus (11%)
    6. iPhone 8 (11%)
    7. iPhone 6S Plus (5.1%)
    8. iPhone SE (5%)
    9. iPhone 5S (2.8%)
    10. iPhone XS Max (1.9%)
    11. iPhone XS (1.5%)
    12. iPhone 5 (0.31%)
    13. iPhone 5C (0.29%)
    14. iPhone 4S (0.12%)
    15. iPhone 4 (0.04%)

Interesting to note that the standard version has nearly always done better in sales than the Plus size models. But with the iPhone 8 the Plus appears to have been sold nearly just as much as the standard (slightly more according to Statista) and in October with the new releases, the iPhone XS Max had actually been outselling the standard size.

All of this is to be taken with a grain of salt of course, as the phones must have a third-party-app which shares analytics to even register. But it gives a good estimate nonetheless!

    Case-less iPhone lovers?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 06:14 PM PST

I know it's a HUGE risk, especially since these phones get more and more expensive every year, but does anyone else love just having their iPhone naked? I feel of the glass and sleekness is just awesome. Even though I always gently place my phone down on a counter when I'm done using it lol

Need help finding an adapter for audio from iPod to iPhone 6/7

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 08:14 AM PST

    Hi all,

I'm looking for an adapter from iPod to iPhone 6/7, but the ones I've found so far do not support audio. The whole purpose is to be able to listen to the audio from the iPhone but the cable we have connected to the car is old, so it supports only iPod. Does anyone have any suggestions from sites like Amazon or BestBuy? I wanted something like this https://www.amazon.com/Darrent-Compatible-Lighting-Adapter-Converter/dp/B07GTYN8ZH/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543853335&sr=1-2&keywords=Lighting+to+30+Pin+Adapter%2C+8+Pin+to+30+Pin+Charge+audio but this one doesnt take audio.

    Thank you!

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 11:40 PM PST

The latest update for the iOS YouTube app has fixed the huge volume interface appearing when watching a video in full screen. I see this being complained about a lot, so thought I'd post here.

Edit: can't set the flair lol, it's not a question

    A couple iPhone questions...

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:44 AM PST

A little backstory: I got an 8+ at release via the iPhone Upgrade Program. When I got it I was on AT&T and was told at the Apple Store that if I ever wanted to switch to Verizon I would need a different version of the phone to work on their network. But, they said they could more or less swap out the AT&T one for a Verizon one (they would have to cancel the first loan and start a new one but the payments would remain the same and it wouldn't restart the 24mo contract). Fast forward ~15 months. I have switched over to Verizon and the phone seems to work okay but I have no way to check if I can get/use 2G/3G. I have low LTE signal at my desk but data doesn't seem to work at all. If I go outside it works fine. I've done some research that the AT&T Model (A1897) doesn't have CDMA support which Verizon uses for 2G and 3G. I'm wondering if my phone should switch to 3G or 2G with how low the signal is but it can't?

Question 1: I went in to the Apple store today to ask about swapping phones and was told I couldn't do that. I had to physically upgrade (Xs, Xs Max, or Xr) and that I couldn't get the same phone again. Is that true?

Question 2: I'm also having trouble hearing people through the receiver - If an Apple Genius determines that the phone is defective and needs to be replaced, can I get it replaced with a Verizon version or does it have to be swapped to an exact duplicate?

    Case recommendation

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 09:18 AM PST

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to see if anyone have any recommendations for cases for the XS Max. Preferably something that's nice and thin and sleek. As close as it can get to naked the better but still have a lip to protect the screen.

    Thanks!!

[Question] Is there a way to make custom passes for Apple Wallet?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 02:58 AM PST

A few years ago there were apps that could make Apple Wallet passes. But they seem extinct. Is there a way to make them yourself? By a xml-file or something? I'd like to add geo-data to let them pop up at certain places. Does anybody know how?

Upgrading from 7+ to a X or to a Xs max?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 08:48 AM PST

As the title says, I now have a 7+ I really enjoyed, but it's timo to upgrade. I'd love the Xs max in terms of screen size, but I'm not sure it's worth the splurge. An X seems like good value for money and I maybe (maybe) get accustomed to a smaller screen.

What do you all say? Which one would you get?

PS: another thing that is super important to me is the camera, the best I can get the better. Thanks!

    iPhone XR screen real state?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 03:37 AM PST

Yes, yet another iPhone XR screen question. I know that, while having less resolution that X/XS (those work at @3X), iPhone XR resolution works at @2X.

I am wondering if the XR is on a Plus-level of real state on the screen, rather than on a non-plus level. I have an iPhone 7 and wouldn't like to have the same effective space but on a bigger screen.

    Thanks!

Any good apps for tracking apps on sale?

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 07:51 AM PST

I use Cheap Charts to track deals on iTunes. Looking for an App Store equivalent. I really like that Cheap Charts can show pricing/sale history of a certain movie I'd really like to be able to see that for apps as well.

Unable to download YouTube videos with new XS (using YouTube Premium)

    Posted: 03 Dec 2018 05:23 AM PST

I've always been able to download YouTube videos on the app for my commute. Got a new phone yesterday. This morning I'm trying to download YouTube video offline for my commute and it just shows an error "Video wasn't downloaded". I have plenty of storage 10GB+ left and not sure what's going on.

Anyone having issues as well? https://i.imgur.com/52yGnVj.jpg

Ignore Genius and get battery replacement

    Posted: 02 Dec 2018 02:52 PM PST

For over a year now I have been convinced there was a fault with my iPhone 6 battery.

The battery would lose over 30% of the battery capacity over short period of 1 to 2 hrs when not in use and even with all WiFi and mobile turned off.

I even took it into the Apple store to get it checked out. They ran the diagnostics on it and they said it was fine, it had 98% capacity (I'm old so I'm not glued to my phone).

Any way last week I took it into the Apple store to get a new battery and the Genius tried to convince me that because my phone still had 97% capacity it was not really worth getting it replaced. I insisted and got it changed.

Today my phone was unused with WiFi and mobile turned on for 12 hrs. It was still at 100% after this time.

So I would really recommend getting it done even if your battery is "fine"
