Why doesn’t the A12 chip comes with a motion coprocessor?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:14 PM PST

Yes the A12 chip in the new iPhones is impressive and all. However, I notice it does not have a motion co-processor which has been around since the A7. The A12X chips used on the new iPad Pros somehow includes the M12 coprocessor though. (Have a look at the tech specs of the iPhone XS and the new iPad pro on Apple's website if you're unaware, Wikipedia's page about 'Apple motion coprocessors' also suggests the M12 is only found in the A12X not in the A12.)

A quick internet search can't answer my question and can anyone give insight on how will the absence of a motion coprocessor influence the performance of the A12 compared to that of the A12X or A11.

Reasonable guesses, directions to useful sources also welcomed. Thanks.

Potential Privacy Issue With Apple Wallet

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:24 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I added my credit card to my Apple Wallet and I went to pay for something and I noticed that the billing address & name were wrong. I went to the card in my Apple Wallet and clicked on Billing Address and to my surprise, there are over 100 addresses and names on this list. I do not recognize ANY of them. They are from throughout the United States. My phone was purchased brand-new (iPhone XS Max) from Verizon, so I am not sure why I am able to see all of this info. Any help would be appreciated, I don't know if this is just affecting me, or others.

Apple: What is the point of AirPods in Find My Phone if they need to be connected to locate?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 10:35 PM PST

Given that the location data is not going to be any more accurate than "your AirPods are in pretty much the same location as your phone" I don't understand the point of AirPods even being listed.

You can't put them in lost mode (which is ridiculous given that it would just be a serial number linked to an Apple ID) and you can't see the last connected location after more than about 24 hours. What's the point?

I have two sets of AirPods and one set have failed on me. They are easily mixed up so I thought I had the good pair with me. Turns out I must have misplaced them but have no way to see where I last used because both sets show as Offline in Find My Phone.

Side note: I know that you used to be able to see last connected location for a significant amount of time however functionality appears to have been removed.

Can WiFi password sharing only share with people in your contacts?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:22 PM PST

I'm trying to share a password to a device that's not in my contacts and it just won't share at all. Does it require icloud sign-in as well as being in the person's contacts list?

    Thanks

Why does iTunes say update 12.1.2 is available when my iPhone XR says 12.1.2 is already installed?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:55 PM PST

I already updated my iPhone a week ago through the phone itself to iOS 12.1.2. However when I plug my phone into my laptop (windows 10), iTunes says that 12.1.2 is available to download and install. What is causing the disconnect between the two systems? I don't want to accidentally brick my phone by reinstalling the operating system, as something similar happened when I first got the phone (can't remember details, as this was a while ago).

What’s with the AirPod hype all of a sudden?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:18 PM PST

I understand that it's the holiday season and all, however there has been massive hype the past few weeks over AirPods. I've had my AirPods since launch, new models haven't been announced. Is there a reason they started trending more this year? Is there like a massive sale or something?

iPhone XS vs XS Max contrast - Defective?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 02:29 PM PST

Last month my wife and I upgraded to XS and XS Max. Yesterday on a flight while it was dark on the plane I had the brightness turned up while watching Netflix and noticed that my contrast seemed to be off. I assumed it was just Netflix being shitty, but today I compared it to my wife's XS and this is what they look like side by side playing the same downloaded show with the brightness all the way up.

I assume this is not normal and made a Genius Bar appointment for later this week. I was just wondering if anybody else has seen this with theirs and if so, how it was resolved? (screen replacement, phone replacement, iOS restore, etc.)

IMEI blacklisted - iPhone still working

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 02:46 PM PST

I got an iPhone 7 as a gift over a year ago. This phone was brand new when I got it, in packaging and untouched.

My reason for posting is because it has since come to my attention that this IMEI is blacklisted. Although, my phone works perfectly.

How could this device be lost or stolen if it was new when I got it? How does it work perfectly if it is a blacklisted phone?

It's been on my mind and I can't get more info off the gift-giver as we are no longer in touch. Any help would be appreciated.

    Doorbell and Camera

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 01:12 PM PST

So I'm in the market for a good outdoor Camera and Video Doorbell and was looking at HomeKit devices and I must say ..... I'm not impressed. Why is Apple not pushing their HomeKit more? Nest IQ and Video Doorbell coupled with a nice touchscreen Google Home Hub seems awesome and easy.... heck, it's even all in one package on the Nest site. Why doesn't Apple focus on these things? HomeKit could be awesome but I'm sorry, light bulbs and plugs ain't cutting it.

Battery dies faster AFTER official replacement?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:14 PM PST

About 5 days ago I went to the Apple store to take advantage of the discounted battery replacement. The process was very quick and I was good to go.

But for the past few days I've noticed not only is my battery bad, it's INCREDIBLY bad. Sometimes losing 1% a minute.

Since it's an official Apple battery replacement, I hesitant to think it's a faulty battery, but what should I do at this point? I don't have concrete data to back this up other than the battery health page and my own observations. Would Apple reexamine at my phone if I went back?

I'm running latest iOS on iPhone 7 Plus.

Married couples of Reddit, how do you share your iPad with your spouse?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:51 AM PST

Thinking of getting an iPad Pro and am wondering how other couples or households that only share one iPad Pro do it.

Since it only has FaceID, how would we set it up so that both me and my wife can unlock the device?

As far as connecting our iCloud accounts, is the best option to just make a 3rd iCloud account that is one that we both share?

I've heard that using a classroom setting may allow for multiple users. Any validity to this?

Trying to remember what the tech said yesterday about “quality assurance.”

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:15 PM PST

So I took my mother's iPhone 6 in yesterday for a battery replacement and my cousin's Apple Watch for the same thing.

After the tech jumped through hoops to deactivate the watch's find my iPhone, he mentioned that it was out of warranty. After some back and forth and me asking what it would cost to replace the battery, he mentioned something that I think was "quality assurance" and it would be fixed at no cost, which came to a surprise.

Is this a normal practice or something reserved for Apple watches? I know they've helped me before replacing my iPhone 7+ OoW, but wanted to see if anyone has better insight on what they meant.

    iPhone Xs screen refresh

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 11:33 PM PST

Low brightness + truetone + nightshift enabled. Check out the small comment/upvote bar. I've only seen this bug on OLED iPhones; never on LCD iphones that I've had in the past. Anybody else have this issue? Screen refresh is noticeably slow?

    Apple TV binge mode

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:22 AM PST

So I hear that Apple TV iTunes videos have a binge mode but whenever I select any of my seasons (Brooklyn 99 for example) and watch an episode, the next one does not autoplay.

Any idea what's up or what I should do to make this work?
