MacBook Pro draining large amounts of batter when the lid is closed? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:39 PM PST Before my laptop used to keep it's charge for days by just having it's lid closed. Now when I close it and it's supposed to be in 'sleep mode'. It drains the battery a lot. A full charge won't last a day with the lid closed. I've noticed that whenever I do decide to use my laptop. It's rather warm even though I'm not using it. So it gets warm and the battery gets drained with the lid closed. I factory reset my MacBook hoping that it'll fix the problem and it hasn't. I can't tell if my battery went bad or if it's a software issue. I have a late 2015 MacBook Pro. [link] [comments] |
OS X El Capitan, multiple issues? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 10:12 PM PST My husband surprised me with a desktop Mac for Christmas- not new, of course, but for about a day was doing just what I needed it to do! Ran photoshop and everything, albeit a little slow. Well, today I booted her up and immediately got a notification saying, "A keychain cannot be found to store "localdevice...authtoken", and another saying "OS X needs to repair your Library to run applications. Type your password to allow this". Entering my password did nothing, as you can imagine. I've been scouring forums for a solution, and every time I think something will work, there's a missing button or nonexistent function on my computer.I'll admit, I'm a Microsoft gal, but I'm also pretty damn good at googling solutions... this has me stumped. When I try to reset my default keychain, a notification box pops up that says, "write permissions error". If anyone can walk me through anything from fixing the keychains to rebooting the entire system (in layman's terms), PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU, HELP! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2018 07:27 PM PST So I was clearing junk on my computer using App Cleaner, and I saw a random file called gatekeeper. I'd never heard of it and recently had some malware so I just had it removed as well. I tried installing a program called 'Vuze' and now I'm having all sorts of issues. I get the error message ""Application" is damaged and can't be opened". I already tried disabling and re-enabling gatekeeper in Terminal and that didn't do anything. Any advice is welcome! [Question] Is it possible to downgrade form OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to 10.6.2 Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:57 PM PST I recently purchased an old MacBook Air A1237 as an experimental machine and I'm trying to run CoolBook on it to see if the CPU actually cools down, but after some hours of reading posts I found out that the tool doesn't work on 10.6.8 and that it only works below 10.6.2. Is it possible to get back to that version, or do I have to reinstall the OS and skip the upgrades? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Bought Macbook with no hard drive - having trouble due to EFI partition Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:49 PM PST Hello Reddit, I want to preface this by saying I haven't really used a Mac since about 1995, and I have personally never owned one before. I just got a heck of a deal on a Macbook Pro 13", early 2015 (A1502) with no hard drive, but clearly didn't do enough research. Having a quick look over the system beforehand, I thought I could just throw an m.2 hard drive in, but as I should have figured, Apple uses a different connector. Okay, no problem. I researched and found that I could get a NVMe hard drive and, using a special adapter (since that is significantly cheaper and they are faster), have it work perfectly fine with the unusual connector. Sweet! The only problem was that NVMe drives weren't apparently supported as internal hard drives until High Sierra. Okay...time to upgrade the OS. Use a 128GB 3.0 USB drive as the temporary hard drive and restore El Capitan to the system. Download Mojave to upgrade and.... "You may not install to this volume because the computer is missing a firmware partition." Shoot. Now I'm between a rock and a hard place. I need to upgrade the system to use the NVMe drive correctly, but I cannot upgrade because I'm using a USB as the temporary hard drive. Since I do not have access to an OEM hard drive to upgrade the system to do what I need, are there any workarounds I can use? Thanks in advance! EDIT: Another idea. Are there any 'stock' High Sierra or Mojave drive clones that exist? If so, my thought is that would alleviate the problem, since I could just restore that clone image to the NVMe drive to have it installed properly, and then either factory reset it or do a fresh install, just to be sure there are no issues. Outlooks top bar icons look huge, is it just me? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:56 PM PST I recently updated to the new dark theme on Office and it just seems that the toolbar icons are much bigger than before. I have my monitors set to Scaled "More Space" on my MBP and at 1920x1080 on my external monitors. Is there a setting in Office I can change to make them smaller? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:12 AM PST Hello, I am having trouble accessing FaceTime and iMessage from MacOs with Mojave. I cannot access the apps and the Preferences option is greyed out. When I try to log into say FaceTime I get and error saying 'Error during activation'. Similar thing with iMessage. The Apple ID works fine and I tried resetting the NVRAM but didn't work. Does anyone have a solution? [link] [comments] |
Duplicate scanner with hardlink support? Posted: 29 Dec 2018 09:03 AM PST Does anyone know of a duplicate file scanner (Quick hash then MD5 or Blake2,etc marching) that will then hardlink the resulting files together? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2018 08:55 AM PST Hi! I have 2017 MBP w/TouchBar. So, this happened a couple of times; many weeks ago, I was watching a video on QuickTime player then machine shutdown, I didn't care because most of the time I use VLC and nothing weird ever happened. The second time was yesterday, I was watching HoC on Netflix then the screen went black, the touchbar was on but nothing responded, then it happened again two times today while watching other series Netflix as well. I use Safari as my main browser on macOS High Sierra. Please help. [link] [comments] |
I want my mac go to sleep with the display Posted: 29 Dec 2018 03:13 AM PST Hello guys, I've updated my MBP to Mojave (from Yosemite) yesterday and everything is going well, But I want to ask about the way to make the mac go to sleep when the display go to sleep, because the only way for me now is to click apple logo then sleep, but if I just keep my mac for the specified time in the system preferences the display go to sleep but my mac still work. Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:57 AM PST All, what is the best way to find duplicate photos in a directory? These photos are not in my photo library and I would rather not put them there. Is there software that can look at a directory and remove / display duplicates? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:43 AM PST I have a 2017 13" MBP running Mojave. Periodically I have this issue where audio no longer works. I've not used headphones or anything. To resolve it, I have to reboot. My output is still set to internal speakers and I don't have any bluetooth devices such as AirPods attached. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm assuming it's a software issue. [link] [comments] |
Keychain: to lock or not to lock Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:12 AM PST I have an iMac, at home, with just my wife and I. We live in a three-floor townhouse. The iMac is on the top floor where visitors simply never go unaccompanied. It does require a password to logon after waking from sleep. I see under Keychain/File the two choices: lock keychain "login" and Lock All Keychains. I have neither locked. Just wondering if most people lock their keychains or not? [link] [comments] |
