[iPhone XS Max] Clicking noise when pressed.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:43 AM PST

Hi guys! Bought the iPhone XS Max Space Grey version 2 weeks ago.

I first noted the clicking noise when pressing as demonstrated in the video below.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1MSrYBd06I0

The clicking noise was loud as I was unhappy as this is not what I would expect from a device that cost more than $1000.

I did an exchange a few days ago and although the clicking noise is noticeably less (currently at the upper right side corner), it still annoys me to know that I paid $1000 over for such "flaw". However to be fair, it does not affect the functionality at all.

    What is happening to Apple?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 08:49 AM PST

For a while I was being led to believe that Apple's recent history of quality control and poor design issues was limited to the MacBook Pro from 2016-2018. Be it keyboard problems, ventilation issues or glitches that were seemingly fixed with software patches, the issues have called quality control into question at a company with a long-standing reputation for offering some of the best built products in the industry.

Yeah, there was the much talked about "bendgate" issue with the iPhone 6 Plus...but that had been pretty much it, other than OS bugs that were present (and usually quickly patched) following each new release.

However now we are seeing more issues starting to appear...in new iPhones, of all things. This is Apple's "bread and butter" and I would argue they spend more time working on this product line than anything else they make...by a WIDE margin.

Why then, do we now have the iPhone Xs and Xs Max with their long-awaited and much requested "dual sim" capability first being delayed until iOS 12.1 released and now finding it isn't working anywhere near acceptably.

All of the big carriers have now said they will not support it until sometime next year as their engineers work with Apple to figure out why adding a second number slows data performance on both lines to 3G performance...or worse!

Meanwhile Apple continues to fight "right to repair" legislation, blocks 3rd party sellers from selling refurbished parts or machines no longer available in their current catalog, and has been caught with Genius Bar representatives quoting the need for repairs between $1000 and $1800 for a problem that could (and was) literally fixed within just minutes for free by another company.

As QC seems to continue slipping, prices are doing the opposite...setting ever higher marks with each new product released!

As Apple topped $1 TRILLION (Yes, with a T) in market cap several months ago and is now the largest publicly traded company in the world, I am really beginning to wonder if their products are still with the premium asking price.

At one point, I paid the higher price for Apple products without much question because I KNEW I was going to purchase a product that "just worked" reliably for years to come.

But, I am no longer feeling that with Apple products. To the contrary, I now find myself having that anxious feeling I always felt buying other brands' gear...hoping I was getting a unit that would work properly without a lot of hassle!

So now, I ask everyone here on Reddit (who is or has been an Apple customer) if you are still loyal to this brand? If not, what finally changed you mind?

If you are still loyal, are you satisfied with the current, almost "predatory", business practices they are employing? When does it become TOO MUCH for you to take anymore?

I love my iPhone 8+ and I am pretty deep in the iOS ecosystem. I never thought I would hear these thoughts rumbling around in my head, but I am finding myself wondering if this may be my LAST iPhone!

I desperately want to see Apple turn this around and return to the outstanding company they once were, but obviously, I have no control over that other than to "vote" with my money when I make my next purchase!

Any keyboard apps that allow for blank keys?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 11:07 AM PST

I wanted to make a bunch of custom keyboards that use custom designs for the keys. I'd need to make this an image, which is easy enough, but I can't seem to find any keyboard apps that allow for the keys to be made completely blank (as in, no letters). Does anyone happen to know of any?

    Iphone 8 Home Button Buzzing

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:52 AM PST

So, long story short, i dropped my iPhone 8 at about knee height. Since then, the home button has made a very loud and very obnoxious buzzing sound.

I have turned off Sound Haptics and what not, but it hasnt fixed anything. Vibrations are off, I've restarted the phone completely and have tried everything that google had to offer, and it's still the same. If anybody has any ideas, i would love to hear them. This vibration is annoying me and everybody around me, so ive turned on assistive touch for the time being. I plan on going to the apple store at some point if this cannot be resolved.

Battery report: how to read it?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:57 AM PST

I think I have read posts from people knowing their iphone battery time (be it screen on or just standby times) since the phone last charged in iOS 12 further. Straightforward, yet stupid question: how? I can see only last 24 hrs or last x days. Neither option will answer the question how long the phone has been up since last charge (unless you run it for the first time). Or am I just wrong and do I misread it...?

Is anybody having issues with faceid? I've noticed the past couple days that when I go to unlock my phone it tells me that the passcode is required to unlock the phone. I'll enter my passcode then when I go to unlock it later and it does it again!

Best way to exchange my phone at Apple store?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:50 AM PST

So, I bought a phone off of Craigslist. The phone works fine currently and the IMEI isn't blocked. I checked the IMEI before purchasing and inserted my SIM card and everything works fine. I then went to ATT website to get it unlocked, so I can send it overseas and they won't let me. It says "the phone is still under payment plan and I can't unlock until it is completely paid off." My heart kinda dropped at this point because I just spent $850 on this phone and it could possibly be blocked anyday now. I've tried contacting the guy multiple times now and he hasn't responded.

Is there anyway I can get this exchanged at the Apple store? Nothing is wrong with the phone, but I don't want to end up with an iPod. Or any other suggestions to get this fixed?

Thinking of Switching To The XS Max From Note 9 - Thoughts?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:43 AM PST

I owned the original iPhone 3G up to the 4. I ended up switching to Samsung phones for various reasons. Anyway, fast forward about 8 years and I find myself on multiple devices throughout the day.

At home, I'm on my iPad, PC, iMac and Note 9. At work I'm on a PC & Note 9. While on appointments or doing my volunteer work I'm using a laptop, Note 9 and the iPad pro that just came out.

I started to realize, I'm carrying around a ton of devices on me at all times. & using a Android, Windows and Apple devices I realized I had to go to each one for different tasks. While some things worked really well across all (OneNote, Office 365) a lot didn't. Mainly, I couldn't find a great solution that allowed me to take calls and answer text messages from any of my devices at any time. There was is also setting up each devices work station to my liking.

I started to look at Apple more in depth and realized that I could take calls, send SMS, iMessages etc... from an iPhone, iPad, Macbook, and iMac. It's a feature that I've been trying to get to work on other platforms with little success.

My question, does it work well? Making calls, answering SMS from any of those devices as long as my phone is on Wifi? Which it is 99% of time.

Also, will I miss much on IOS over Android? I have to say, 99% of the time I'm on a computer or iPad. If I can use a lot of my phone features on these devices, I actually wont be using my phone too often besides when on the go. Even still, appointments will be a Macbook and iPad.

The biggest thing I think I'll miss is the S-pen & the split screen or PIP. However, being on my iPad pro now, I am using Apple pencil more than my S-pen. Seems the split screen will be the biggest miss for me. I no longer have the time to do a lot of the customization that I use to when I first switched to Android.

Any thoughts, points, suggestions or things I may not be thinking of missing? Thanks!

Should I upgrade from iPhone 7 to X/Xs?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:34 AM PST

I apologize as I know a bunch of these questions have probably been asked. I currently have a 128 gb iPhone 7 since October 2016. While the phone works fine and I have no issues with it I am really liking the design of the new iPhones without the bezels along with the bigger screens.

That being said, have any of you upgraded from a iPhone 7 to X or Xs? Was it worth it? Also do you think buying a X would be fine or should I just go all out and get a Xs or Xs Max.

    Thanks

Can Apple please give us a WiFi setting where if I want to connect to a network I haven’t connected to I have to go into settings?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2018 10:26 AM PST

Right now there are two options: auto join, and pop up every 5 seconds I don't have Wi-Fi to connect to a network.

If I want to connect to WiFi I will go do that.

I don't mind it auto connecting to the same network before, although I wish it only connected to the exact network I did before. It will still randomly connect to networks with same names like Starbucks just by walking by and then it disconnects and makes me try and connect to Starbucks even though I've never been to that one and I'm walking by.

But I hate when I'm using navigation, especially on the bike, and 10 times I get a "Join Network" prompt... and I have to take my hands off my bike just to hit cancel. And if I do auto join, I'm randomly connected to network with no password losing cellular data randomly.
