I just got an iPhone Xr and am new to iOS in general - what are some must-get RPGs for it?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 11:04 PM PST

Preferably premium games with no IAPs after the original purchase (or I guess free games with no IAPs, but I don't see that happening).

    Thank you!

Suggestions for offline games I could play while listening to podcast

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 02:21 PM PST

Hi, any suggestions for games I could play while listening to podcast or audiobooks? I'm usually stuck in the parking lot cause I leave early to avoid the daily heavy traffic at our place.

Something that doesn't require too much attention but still enjoyable and engaging? I had fun with Zombie King (at some point it got too difficult so I stopped playing that) I'm also currently playing Earn to Die 2. Any other recommendations?

Are there any other games similar to Galaxy On Fire 2 or Space Wanderer?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 12:50 PM PST

I genuinely feel like GoF2 was the PERFECT open universe game, if it only had a multiplayer option it would literally be perfection, Atleast for me. To date I have not found any games close, not even by a margin to this game, I've been on a hunting questing for something I can get deeply investing into like GoF2, but no luck so far. I tried Vendetta Online but it seem extremely lacking to me.

    Any suggestions?

EDIT Stellar Wanderer not Spade Wanderer.

iPad 6th gen (2018) for gaming?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 03:59 AM PST

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking about buying the 6th gen iPad. Do heavier games like CIV6 or GRID work without trouble on this device or are there any performance issues?

    Thanks for you help :)

Any Suggestions for a good offline RPG?

    Posted: 18 Nov 2018 02:39 AM PST

I like games in the style of FF or Chrono Trigger. I prefer that kind of turn based battle system. But I have played almost all of them.

I don't like a lot of micromanagement tasks like farming or building villages. But I don't mind grinding ala Final Fantasy Type grinding.

Graphics aren't as important to me. Chrono Trigger Level of graphics is fine by me.

I keep searching the App Store and I can't find anything the explicitly says any of that. So if anyone is willing to suggest things I am more than willing to listen. Also I am open to suggestions for something close. I find that people's actual experience rings louder than App Store descriptions. Thanks in advance.

    Looking for a fun game

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 06:28 PM PST

I've been looking through the App Store for ages and can't find anything good. All games I find are crappy repetitive games like helix jump and stuff that stuff just isn't fun. I've been playing last day on earth and I'm looking for fun games similar to that

iOS Gaming no. 13: Card Crawl

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 05:10 PM PST

    Introduction

Good afternoon my brilliantly bodacious beauties! This week I'm bringing cards, a box of questionable tastes, and an overly happy goblin. If I haven't given it away by now, we're looking at Card Crawl, a short, dungeon crawling card game. You, the (mostly) respectable dungeon-delving adventurer, will slay liches, spiders, trolls, and more spiders in your quest for gold—or you'll die a horrible death, forgotten for all eternity.

Before we really dig in however, the usual mentions need to happen first: If you would like to read the previous review please click here. If you would like to yell at me for doing a terrible job (Or a great job! I won't judge you publicly) you can do that on the Trinity Force Network Discord server, by messaging me directly on Discord @Syger#2331, on Reddit, or by sending me an [email](mailto:syger@trinityforcenetwork.com) (Please don't abuse my inbox)!

    Details

    Game: Card Crawl

Developer: Tiny Touch Tales &Max Fiedler

    Price: $4.99

In-App Purchases: None! Zero, zip, zed!

    Device used: iPhone XS Max

    The Review

Ah, Card Crawl—I had high hopes for you. With your card-based dungeon crawling, quirky card abilities, and unique art you promised to be something exceptionally enjoyable. Alas, despite the short term enjoyment and interesting gameplay, you are not exceptional.

At the most basic level (the mode which is introduced in the tutorial, and which will be played until players have acquired a complete card collection—or, at least, a collection sufficient to unlock other options), Card Crawl pits players against a "dungeon" of fifty four randomly ordered cards. Of those fifty four cards, five are randomly selected Special Ability cards which boast a variety of tools ranging from a revive (which brings players back from death) to an execution (immediately remove damaged cards) for the savvy adventurer. Of the remaining forty nine cards, there are a fixed number of Monsters, Equipment (Swords and Shields), Potions, and Coins. Removing all fifty four cards from play without allowing your hero's health to fully deplete will pass the dungeon (to the irritation of the House, a minotaur with an impressive pair of horns).

The challenge, however, is not in simply clearing the dungeon; rather, it is in how well it can be cleared. Or, put differently, the challenge is how much gold can be looted without dying? An astute reader would answer by saying, "Why, Syger, it's obvious: Since the amount of coins is fixed, a perfect clear will always have the same amount." And they would be right. Or, well, they would be right if equipment (swords, shields, and potions) were not discardable. See, discarding equipment provides a gold value equal to the equipment's potential—a seven damage sword, for instance, would yield seven gold when discarded; a ten health potion would provide ten gold when discarded. Thus, the challenge: Do I really need that potion? Is that sword actually necessary? What about that shield, or that Special Ability? You could discard it all for more gold… but if you do, you may run out of tools for those last three cards. In a sense, the gameplay is like an elaborate game of blackjack: Players are perpetually betting their health pool for more gold. Bet too little and you're wasting gold, bet too much and… well, you'll be in for a nasty surprise.

Designing a game around such a system has its merits, of course, but it also has its demerits—notably, establishing high scores as the end-goal eliminates the need to add frivolous mechanics like extensive, fully randomised, dungeons with NPC commentary. Why bother with interesting dungeons with unique mechanics and a dash of flavour if your target player base is just as happy competing for leaderboard recognition? Card Crawl is the result of an entirely understandable and reasonable decision—indeed, it is entirely likely I would have made the same choice. Unfortunately, it is far less interesting than the alternative: Large, randomised dungeons with flavourful NPCs and unique bosses.

As a result, I cannot personally recommend Card Crawl. It is not a game I will play extensively, nor is it a game I expect to be updated to a state which would rekindle my interest. Is it a game worth playing? That depends. If you're interested in a quick dungeon, don't mind repetitive gameplay, and have a hankering for a microtransaction-free card game you'll probably enjoy it. Is it worth the $4.99 asking price? When you have alternatives like Lost Portal, or Dream Quest, $4.99 is too much for what you get.

    Conclusion

Well, that's it for this week. I really would have liked Card Crawl to hold my attention longer but, unfortunately, we don't always get what we want. As usual, I would love to hear your thoughts—do you play Card Crawl? How do you like it? Do you think my assessment is fair? If not (or even if you do), is there anything you would like to add?

As usual, if you would like to reach out to me you can find me on the Trinity Force Network Discord server @Syger#2331 (mentioning me in the #general-gaming channel or messaging me directly are both acceptable). Alternatively, you can send me a message on Reddit or, if you're reading on Reddit, by leaving a comment below. As a test, I'm also including [my email](mailto:syger@trinityforcenetwork.com) this week—please don't flood me with irrelevant messages!

Thank you for your interest and, until next time, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

    MMORPG for iOS

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 12:50 PM PST

I'm looking for an MMORPG to play and my main focus is to be a healer. Can anyone recommend me a good one with a decent player base? I would like a fantasy one. Just not Rune Scape.

    Kingdom Rush Vengeance IAPs?

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 08:44 PM PST

So I see a new Kingdom Rush game coming out soon and have never played the earlier titles before. The game costs $6.99 CAD with IAP so I was wondering how important IAPs are in those games to be able to experience the game fully right away. I own Bloons TD 5 & 6, and the IAPs in those games are completely not necessary to experience the full game nor is it any sort of P2W.

Hello, this game is going global from its beta in December.

    Posted: 17 Nov 2018 06:38 PM PST

I'm sure most of you have heard of supercell. Their games include Clash Royale, Clash of Clans, Hayday, Boom Beach and now a game called Brawl Stars! In it's beta, it had about 3 million players, however there are a ton of inactive accounts, and you'll be matched against the same people based on your "trophy" range, and trophies are how you're ranked. Anyway, it's trending in the App Store so you may have heard of it already, as their has already been 5 million pre registers in about a week! I wanted to call this game to your attention so you can try it out! If you want to try it now, it's available in certain countries, so you can change your Apple ID to one of these countries or just wait until global. Hope you enjoy!
