On my ATV4K, Maniac (Dolby Vision) on Netflix has elevated black levels and other issues. Posted: 03 Nov 2018 04:08 AM PDT At the 8m20s mark - the scene where he is standing in front of the ticket machine, the tubelight seen on the wall behind him, can be seen running across his face! Youtube now supports HDR on Apple tv Posted: 03 Nov 2018 03:52 AM PDT I just checked some HDR videos on youtube and its finally works but for some reason you have to mainly enable HDR if you seeing HDR video ( at least this is the case with my sony tv) [link] [comments]
Is the Apple TV any good outside the US? Posted: 03 Nov 2018 03:39 AM PDT Hi, As part of some promo I have the option to pick up a 4k Apple TV for 120$ inc. tax, but as I'm outside the US and EU I wonder if it's worth it. I don't think there's enough content outside the US to even use it for besides Netflix which is fully implemented where I live (Israel). I'm more excited about the possibility of AirPlaying things to it from my Mac. This would also be the 32gb model. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Play videos from extarnel hdd? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 02:41 PM PDT Hi Reddit folks, Does anyone know of a way to connect an external USB HDD to the apple tv and play mkv's from it as a normal computer would? Maybe with the vlc app? Thanks! [link] [comments]
[Bug] Getting prompts in Control Center to type on AppleTV 4 when no keyboard present on screen Posted: 02 Nov 2018 03:31 PM PDT Everything is updated, everything has been wiped and restored. The error still persists. The only way to stop the prompt/keyboard icon is to open and close the search app on aTV. Anyone else experiencing this? It prompts on my iPhone X and iPad 2017. Wireless Surround Sound via AirPlay 2 Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:51 PM PDT Hello r/appletv, I recently moved into a condo where we put the tv mounted above the fireplace. The tenant before us had ran a cable behind the fireplace and into the built-in cabinets. Problem is that when they moved out, they pulled their cords out and it's impossible to run an HDMI cable thru the wall without opening it. Now we are to my question... Is there a way to use connect to an AirPlay 2 receiver and use Dolby Atmos? The surround sound speakers are already built into the condo, just need to purchase a AirPlay receiver. Is this possible/would there be audio lag? I'm also using an Apple TV mount on the back of the TV so there are no wires showing. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Issues with apps not matching dynamic range. What to do? Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:40 PM PDT I've been having this problem with the Youtube app for a while and just tolerated it, but it's really annoying. Almost everything I watch on YouTube is SDR, and even if it wasn't Google requires VP9 to do HDR10. I have match frame rate and dynamic range enabled in settings. But whenever using YouTube the TV just stays in Dolby Vision mode instead of switching to SDR. Is this a fix for this or should I just use the YouTube app on the TV? [link] [comments]
AirPlay flat out not working properly Posted: 02 Nov 2018 12:23 PM PDT Hi there I moved into a new house share recently and for the first month or so AirPlay on Apple TV 4K worked flawlessly. It was even better than when I was at home. No cut outs at all. But this past few weeks it just hasn't worked. Let me explain... AirPlay mirroring of the iPad UI works perfectly fine. But whenever I try to cast anything - be it Netflix, Channel 4, iPlayer, YouTube... it will load a freeze-frame of the content but never actually play. Hitting the 'play' button in the app again just makes it quit to the home screen. Pressing 'play' on the Apple TV remote sometimes makes it close and go home, other times it plays the video for a fraction of a second, with a fraction of sound, before freezing again. Nothing changed except that I had to reboot the WiFi router and after the reboot I noticed the issues. And yet, playing content from apps on the TV works fine, AirPlay mirroring works fine, and the TV has not moved in position or anything at all. No other variables have changed! Any ideas guys? Samsung AnyNet+ Issue with Apple TV 4k Posted: 02 Nov 2018 06:21 AM PDT I've seen various posts of people complaining about similar issues but it seems as though AnyNet+ was working for some people but now will not. My issue is interesting in that my Apple TV 4K will 'Sleep' and turn off my Samsung TV but will not turn on the device. Is it possible that the ATV is sending the wrong code? I'm stumped in how HDMI-CEC can work for the shutoff command but cannot turn on the TV from sleep. [link] [comments]
